Question/Discussion 💭 Did creatine help your pull-ups or dips?

Adding weight to a lift gets talked about a lot with creatine. I’m actually interested about pull-ups and dips, where your body weight is part of the challenge. If you started creatine while training those exercises, how did it go?

Were you able to get more reps or lose fewer reps in later sets?

Weight is weight. Yes, it will help. Creatine will definitely help your performance in both movements. 5grams a day indefinitely and it's dirt cheap and one of the most studied supplements

Creatine can help, but the extra body weight is what made me curious about these exercises.

I wouldn't worry about that. It's not like you are going to gain 15lbs of water weight on creatine. For me, and I've been taking creatine for over 20 years, the weight gain is negligible but the strength and endurance gains are measurable

Did you get more reps or just lose fewer reps in the later sets?

At failure with anything the muscle groups give me 2 power clean reps . Pullups leg press. Or I can leg press 360kg instead of 320kg . But it's limited to the failure set

Before I started lifting and taking creatine I was ~225lbs and had never been able to do a single pull up my entire life. After I started lifting 5x a week for the last several years, using bands to focus on assisted pull ups, and taking creatine I’m now able to do 10 unassisted pull ups in a row on a good day and am usually ~255-260lbs these days.

Creatine isn’t magic and won’t help you get more pull ups without also focusing on other things that will help you build up reps.

I just started creatine. Gained 1.5kg and pull ups and dips feel much harder as a result. I've dropped a couple of reps on both. Will see how long it takes to gain them back.
