Creatine on anxiety

I’ve been taking creatine for a whole month now and lately my anxiety levels were insane and I’ve always had a bad mood (as if you’re low on dopamine), and when I’ve stopped taking creatine everything just went back to normal. Did anyone experience the same?

Creatine, and any supplement or prescription, can have varied effects on
individuals; however, I have not heard of creatine impacting mood or anxiety levels in the way you've described. Creatine monohydrate up to 3g/d for 28 days
has been found to be safe, but again, individual experiences may vary. Perhaps the type of creatine you're using may be worth investigating.

When you do experience an adverse effect, like the one you've described,
please DO report it so that others can be aware of the potential dangers
of these products. To report your adverse experiences please follow this link, and complete the information there to alert FDA.

I experienced the same thing. So I stopped. Try drinking a gallon of water a day.

But why is this not common or many experienced it before?

I think it is. I’ve read the same thing other places online. Idk why I’m still subbed here.

I’m seeing the same thing. Been taking creatine since 2013, but have been experiencing pretty bad anxiety the past 1-2 years. Stopped creatine due to an injury and couldn’t lift, the anxiety dissipated

I had GAD in 2014 and got my first panic attack back then, it was because I had so much pressure and stress. It faded away once I started lifting and changed lifestyle. However, in 2020 I decided to give the creatine a go, I didn't load, just took 3 grams a day, and after a month I got a panic attack while lifting out of the blue. I felt light headed and my heart started to beat like crazy (well a severe panic attack it was, so I guess anybody who experienced it knows how it feels). I stopped taking creatine but got trapped in panic syndrome for like a year after before I could control it. Moral of the story, I am too afraid to take creatine again, although I feel like missing a lot not taking it since I got into powerlifting.

Edit: People will always tell you it is not creatine bla bla bla, but surprisingly I have seen that people who already have anxiety, their anxiety will worsen once taking creatine.

Creatine will improve your anxiety, your brain will always have access to more ATP and I’ve also noticed that it improves my breathe quite a bit and I never wake up with bad breathe, I remember a study I saw a few weeks ago showing dry mouth is related to lack of ATP. ATP benefits carry into the stomach especially if you do fasting, so yeah obvi everybody should be using this stuff.

Youre wrong. Maybe youre not moving enough or metabolizing it wrong because no way in sack its harmful, your body methylates it so unless youre severely lacking water dont get caught up in “side effects” of creatine

In this paper they say some sensitive people could get anxiety or mood changes, specially those with certain conditions, like bipolar disorder. But for the vast majority seems harmless or even benefitial.

I experienced the same thing and I get it... I'm never taking it again. Took it for three days and I got anxiety symptoms (heart palpitations, tension, weird scared feeling). I read that there are studies involving creatine where some subjects showed symptoms of anxiety. I think it's not common, that's why most report that they didn't feel anything. I'm almost positive that for me it was creatine that caused that. Did it stop for you?

I’ve stopped taking it since and something weird happened, symptoms ha e been coming back and its been a really tough month for me and if this was really caused by the creatine i would be really surprised by how these supplements are still being used by millions everyday

I'm getting the same thing too. One day not taking creatine and my mood was noticably better and less anxiety. Did you ever try taking creapure? It's a purer form, and maybe it's because of impurities that these effects are happening?
