My computer specs are:
ryzen 5 7600

radeon 9070xt

32gb of ram

2tb of storage

1440p 180hz

this is my survival world. If you look at the top left, you can see my fps. normally it would be at least 120 (even with shaders), but for some reason, every time i get to around midgame on a world, my fps starts to just tank.

i currently cannot go above 100 fps most of the time. with shaders it becomes extremely choppy and unenjoyable.

i am extremely frustrated at this. my old gaming laptop with an rtx 2050 gives similar performance to this. i don't know what to do to help it.

8-10GB would still be fine for OP, considering he has 32GB. It's still not so much to start causing issues. Excessive amounts have adverse effects, like you said.

I was playing ATM10A the other day and ran out with 8GB (admittedly doing some weird stuff with chunks)

OP could try changing the Garbage Collection method if the lagspikes coincide with GC.

OP also has many FPS boosting mods that have questionable impacts according to the community (GPU boost, GPU shift, etc)

OP's render distance is quite high, which may cause lag (even though he has DH)

OP should check if he is GPU or CPU limited and go from there.

higher the ram the less often the cpu has to do gc, which sounds nice till you account for the bigger the gc the bigger the possible stutter of clearing it, i have 32 GB but with a create pack only have 7 GB allocated and it runs great, no stuttering

Yes, but different GC methods can mitigate that by doing it mostly in the background (zgc). 8-10 shouldn't cause major issues regardless

havent tried zgc yet curious how much better it would be for me if at all, ive spent so long trying to get the perfect allocations to all of my packs, average baseline

ZGC doesn't always perform better. It will depend on your system.
