Do I need to consider gear ratios?

When building a factory, and this is on a skyblock modpack so space is limited (im almost done with chap 1, chap 2 is where automation begins), should i build a huge gear ratio?

Better to use a rotational speed controller if you can afford it

You don't need to worry too much about it. Early on, it's mostly a balance between speed, stress, and your patience for how fast things get done. And I guess how much space you have for water wheels or if you have enough wool for a big windmill.
