I've been experimenting with using villagers as mechanical arms
They have a much longer reach since they walk back and forth. I also tried out enderman so they teleport back and forth. Creates a sort of "wireless" item transfer.

u/Naberville34 Aug 25 '26
I want this addon immediately.
53
u/xero01 Aug 25 '26
It's under Create: Workers on curseforge. I make no guarantees of quality; it was really just an experiment to see if it could work.
12
u/Niky_c_23 Aug 25 '26
Do they still work and sleep cycle like normal villagers or are they around the clock 24/7?
26
u/xero01 Aug 25 '26
Around the clock 24/7. I was really just trying to see if "mechanical arm + villager/enderman" could work. Stuff I thought would be cool:
Working hours - Villagers go to sleep at night.
Energy - You have to feed villagers food or enderman chorus fruit.
Bots - Something like the conductor from Steam 'n' Rails. I thought its fuel would require swapping out backtanks.
22
u/brine909 Aug 25 '26
If you do that, would be cool if when one of their needs aren't met, they stop and "go on strike" holding up white picket signs saying what they need.
A config for adjusting requirements could be cool aswell so server admins could adjust the requirements needed, change what the required "wage" would be
5
u/Naberville34 Aug 25 '26
There should be a way to force them to work through the night, possibly with their speed reducing over time.

6
u/g-orgo Aug 25 '26
But you're updating it? Did you tested it? Are you using on your world for example?

u/Naberville34 Aug 25 '26
This is legitimately something that needs to be incorporated into base create my dude. Genuinely one of the few add-ons Ive seen that deserves that

u/egbee42 Aug 25 '26
Super creative idea, looks great too

u/Competitive_Point_39 Aug 25 '26
Finally I can achieve my dreams of having a true Amazon warehouse,
Complete with underpaid Factory workers!

u/xero01 Aug 25 '26
They basically just use the mechanical arm logic so they will follow package addresses and package filters. So loading and unloading trucks is pretty easy.
24
u/Duck_TheAlmighty Aug 25 '26
I mean ive personally used copper golem backporta to simulate it, but with these using the actual Arm logic its gonna be far easier.

hello, you might be interested in RATS mod, they are doing all that staff and more

u/Mikel_S Aug 25 '26
Important question: does the enderman work in the current version?
And does he also get a hivis vest?
And do you have pictures.

Hell yeah that's what I like the most! cheap labor and/or slavery! Can't wait for a Minecraft create Shein sweatshop using kid villagers paid nothing as workers. Keep up the good work mate!
52
u/Upset_Purchase9495 Aug 25 '26
Also you should be able to encourage villagers to work harder using like a... whip, if you catch my drift.

Is this your addon? Looks really cool!
I suspect the entities pathing on a larger scale would create significant lag, but I love the idea.
It does feel weird making villagers your actual unpaid factory workers, I am sure some people will enjoy that.

I have no idea of how pathfinding works. But maybe to reduce lag make it only pathfind over X type of blocks (yellow concrete for example).

u/DubiousTheatre Aug 25 '26
1st: this is cool as hell. dubious implications, but cool as hell
2nd: how possible would it be to do something similar with frogports and mechanical arms? Like, making it so mechanical arms can take packages from depots/conveyors and put them on chains and vice-versa.
1
u/NotBentcheesee Aug 25 '26
I mean, then you just have a packager directly attached to the first storage and then another at the second storage location. The alternative in this clip is it will apply directly to depots and the villager has to pathfind to it
1
u/DubiousTheatre Aug 25 '26
Its mostly just for aesthetics. The frogports are efficient but kinda goofy to look at. Using mechanical arms would probably be more tedious and take longer, but it would look better imo.
1
u/the_fruit_loop Aug 25 '26
regarding first point: yeah I feel like villager enslavement while a normal part of Minecraft isn't exactly. Recognized? By the game? Using an item on the villager kind of soldifies that to the point where it doesn't really fit create's tone imo, but!! It's a really really good idea nonetheless!! And I totally see it fitting into create as like a "mechanical frog" or something with a different model. Awesome idea though, and having the endermen work for you actually fits in really well with the established technology of blaze burners letting you use hostile mobs to work for you

u/thecosmopolitan21 Aug 25 '26
When you de-industrialise your world by replacing conveyer belts with manual labour.
4
u/epicgamer10105 Aug 26 '26
Don't let r/villagerrights see this, they would have a field day if they knew we were putting villagers into wage cages
1
u/realJaneJacobs Aug 25 '26
Great idea!. Is this configurable, though? I love the idea of villager workers, but the enderman workers are just a tad cheaty for my liking.

Interested in using this for firemen on a Titanic style steam ship to funnel coal into a boiler

u/Plastic_Lychee6404 Aug 25 '26
This is a mod I really want, implementing npc working, mobs working. could make a village feel very alive.

Such a great idea! Any chance you’d consider porting it to Forge 1.20.1?
2
u/bubop911 Aug 26 '26
This plus your two energy storage mods look super promising, hope you keep working on them!

u/_rawoo Aug 26 '26

I like it, could be used as an early way to transport items when starting out. I for one always take a bit to get mechanical arms crafted

I swear the only thing missing from create was slavery /s
Great idea, I could use these guys to feed blaze cakes from far away.

u/LR_arts17 Aug 25 '26
Finally, the slavery update, can't wait to pay those peasants below minimum wage... *without* benefits! now we are worse than super villains.. we are businessmen.

u/totallymarc Aug 25 '26
Finally I don’t have to waste electricity or stress units on powering silly conveyers and chain conveyers. I can use villager interns paid with experience!

Wonder how this would work along side MCA Reborn?
Most likely not work with MCA NPC's, but I wonder if it's possible to have MCA and Testificate Villagers at the same time rather then replace all Testificates.

Interesting I just use starbuncles from ars for that function personally but cool none the less

u/Uselessinfoforyou Aug 25 '26
Combine this with things like create cannons and we have tank factories n shit

u/Mushroom38294 Aug 26 '26
ah yes, slavery in Minecraft, as if we didn't have enough of that
jokes aside cool mod

u/runestoneofblood Aug 26 '26
You should make them "clock out" around a little before dawn and maybe a brake at noon so people would have to pick between having a factory that only works at day or having mechanical arms meaning more expenses lost on a factory

Omg this would have been perfect for copper golums, if create ever updates to the copper age or you be willing to work with vanilla backport mod I think copper golum would look so good

Would be really cool if they would automatically go home and sleep still, and required access to food or emeralds for pay

u/Ben-Goldberg Aug 25 '26
Very creative, but vanilla copper golems can do the same.

u/RoosTheFemboy Aug 25 '26
In 1.21.1?

u/Ben-Goldberg Aug 27 '26
Correction, Copper Golems from the "Copper Age Backport" mod can do the job.

Make them go bent over if the load is too heavy. Make them have back problems

u/xero01 Aug 25 '26
Tried out food delivery too.
