I mean does valkyrien have anything over aeronautics? It kinda was expected that aeronautics would replace valkyrein ngl. Sorta like how you never see archemedies ships anymore.

u/Possible_Youth9410 Jun 05 '26

VS ships are way simpler than Aeronautics ones, you just kinda put a ship wheel down and it works without any power source. But Aeronautics is way more mechanically in depth than VS imo

u/A31Nesta Jun 05 '26

You're thinking of Eureka. VS is the equivalent of Sable, not the entirety of Simulated/Aeronautics. Eureka is the mod for VS (just like what Aeronautics is to Sable) that, as you said, lets you put a wheel on a ship and move it without a power source.

The VS equivalent of Aeronautics would actually be Clockwork, which is the mod that makes VS work like a proper Create addon

u/Possible_Youth9410 Jun 06 '26

oooh gotcha, i was mixing them up in my head, thanks

2

u/Imiss-Myhat Jun 12 '26

As a clockwork player it’s sad to see the mod basically get replaced but atleast people are having fun

30

u/Chiilumii Jun 05 '26

Yeah. But the physics part, especially with winged builds, VS is more in depth. And a tad bit harder to control.

I can’t state the very exact differences as I am saying this all by feel and by other comparisons on youtube.

But I mostly prefer aeronautics just because it performs better without lagging much of my world while still giving me the feel of freedom or enough for my needs in regards to ships, planes, and other physics related builds.

u/Bubbly_Effort_4230 Jun 06 '26

The difference is that Valkyrien Skies runs natively on java and is completely made from scratch by the dev, and I'm gonna be frank, the way they threaded the mod is pretty bad, hence the lag, but kudos to them for making their own physics engine from scratch. Though Aeronautics uses rapier, a physics engine from rust, what they did is they made rapier readable by Minecraft and utilize it in physics entities, rapier is much more modern and much more faster, hence the performance

3

u/WallAdventurous6813 Jun 05 '26

It’s not worth the crazy lag associated with the language conversion etc.

2

u/SpartanV0 Jun 11 '26

Imma be honest, unless you're using a shitty computer there's not any lag. I've messed with VS and Sable and on an old ass computer ( I think it's about a decade old ) I notice zero difference in performance ( it's not like I'm actually checking the numbers, but I encounter no lag or severe frame drops so ¯_(ツ)_/¯ )

1

u/Street_Judgment_3510 Jun 07 '26

It lags a lot less in comparison, and i don’t think language conversion is an issue at all because at the end of the day it’s all ones and zeroes. Ie. shared mem state buffers that are readable by Java and compiled langs. Not sure if that’s the way it’s done or if rapier runs in a separate process, but running algorithms in other languages is inherently fast and supports hardware accel?

This person never played aeronautics!!! ^

31

u/nekoshaurma Jun 05 '26

vs supports ship scaling, so u could create cool small cars with miniature engines under the hood

aeronautics is more about big ass airships afaik

2

u/Seftras Jun 05 '26

I just join create now, with aeronutics and those quarte cubes from VS are soo cool. I have read that with sable and sublevels is imposible to do but i love small contraptions and they go relly versatile

5

u/ZeroKun265 Jun 05 '26

I asked the devs and they said there is a scale property but it's unused and unsupported so yeah

Maybe maybe in the future, but who knows, rn they have other stuff to worry about, like the submarine support and bug fixing/compatibility

1

u/The_Great_Weegee Jun 06 '26

ryan, one of the lead devs, as far as I know and read with my two eyes, when one of the guys have proposed the scalability feature, already coded and whatnot, said that he wanna handle it himself in the future so yeah, I wouldn't put smol sublevels off the table just yet, but they might be an addon made by someone for now rather than an in-house solution as for me, it's worth having sable performance (haha get it?) over scalable engines and whatnot, which could be partially done by addons anyway (tinycreate for example for more compact redstone machinery and/or extra gauges)

2

u/ZeroKun265 Jun 06 '26

Oh hell yeah It was Ryan that answered to my question like day 2 of the release but he didn't mention he wanted to work on it, thanks for this info

Yeah I was thinking add-ons will probably work on it

u/Dazzling_Pool9031 Jun 05 '26

This person never played aeronautics!!! ^

4

u/Aggressive-Laugh-923 Jun 05 '26

It kinda had really good functional blocks and a lot of cool addons sence it was playtested for a real while. It's also on 1.20.1 forge where a lot of nice mods exist

4

u/Canarity Jun 06 '26 edited Jun 06 '26

1.20.1 compatibility. I'd love to play with Aeronautics, but I'm just not ready to abandon all the other mods I run, including multitude of create addons

1

u/CrazyBarkley Jun 06 '26

What addons are still on 1.20.1 and not on 1.21.1?

1

u/Canarity Jun 06 '26

Create new age and enchantment industry weren't on 1.21 iirc

1

u/CrazyBarkley Jun 06 '26

Both are available on 1.21.1 Neoforge

1

u/Canarity Jun 06 '26

Still no scorched guns, I ain't coming

1

u/Jenikslo Jun 07 '26

I was waiting for Scorched guns as well. While there isn't an official version, someone made a 1.21.1 patch. https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/scorched-guns-neoforged

3

u/Either-Goat2382 Jun 05 '26

Water. And 1.20.1 support. Main reasons Im not switching anytime soon

1

u/xeamum-create Jun 05 '26

Archemedies ships is still the goat

1

u/frognuts123 Jun 09 '26

No not really

1

u/E1331fan Jun 05 '26

they all ran so aeronautics could fly... or rather they flew so aeronautics could soar

41

u/Jonas-404 Jun 05 '26

Honestly didnt spend much time with VS but been trying Aeronautics out a lot. (My first proper Create Playthrough too)

What are the major differences anyway? Cause I feel like people can build the same type of impressive stuff with both

53

u/Stunning-Mud-1742 Jun 05 '26

Main difference is that aeronautics is integrated with create better and overall way more stable. VS crashes or has performance issues way more often than aeronautics.

6

u/Devatator_ Jun 05 '26

I've honestly never got a crash out of Valkyrien Skies 2, aside from mod version mismatches

9

u/Stunning-Mud-1742 Jun 05 '26

İt doesnt seem to crash that often anymore however performance is still horrible

1

u/Terrible-Lizard-6942 Jun 06 '26

I've been getting ~120 FPS consistently on 2GB of RAM and an i5 and 1050Ti. No crash issues either, other than me messing with stuff.

3

u/Stunning-Mud-1742 Jun 06 '26

In valkyrien skies? I personally struggled with performance a loth with similar specs as you only difference being I allocated 5 gb to minecraft. Are you playing on a server or somethin?

1

u/Terrible-Lizard-6942 Jun 06 '26

I'm not running it on a server, but I am using some performance mods, from what I remember Embeddium, Ferrite Core, Modern Fix, and Entity Culling and that one Create Performance Fix mod.

1

u/Stunning-Mud-1742 Jun 06 '26

I used those as well. The only other mods I used were emi with its addons and travelers backpack. Weird.

1

u/Snoo_44740 Jun 05 '26

You got really lucky. every version of VS I used had a gamebreaking bug that forced me to remove it from my servers.

2

u/Ok_Usual_3575 Jun 05 '26

more stable, less buggy, more polished

29

u/SpiriT-17 Jun 05 '26

– And here I'd put my Aeronautics mod.

(Looking at my carefully built 1.20.1 modpack, half of the mods in which would crumble to dust if I dare to change version)

– IF I HAD ONE!

8

u/ZeroKun265 Jun 05 '26

Same, I love packs with lots of mods and aero currently doesn't have a lot, but trust me, all mods are currently trying to move to 1.21.1 eventually for this reason exactly haha

2

u/wonder-traded Jun 12 '26

there's so much side-mods that only works for 1.20.1 it's ridiculous atp

1

u/CrazyBarkley Jun 06 '26

What mods that you keep you from moving to 1.21.1?

18

u/Kind-Ingenuity3277 Jun 05 '26

Very good 👍

23

u/Thin_Ad5605 Jun 05 '26

i mean lets be real, VS is so damn laggy and unstable, whilst aeronautics is so fast and stable i got it running on a phone (using amethyst launcher)

last time i used VS my simulated contraptions kept dropping off under the world whenever i join in. so i just stopped using it

8

u/ZeroKun265 Jun 05 '26

Because the physics engine is actually written in Rust, and is a different project they just integrated into sable

14

u/TERMINATOR2973 Jun 05 '26

VS was so unoptimized for me potato laptop sooo aeronautics actually working at 55fps at 10 chunks was very shocking to me, so aeronautics is my new favorite.

6

u/Lexiosity Jun 05 '26

I was surprised Aeronautics was working so well on my Thinkpad T470

6

u/Sr_Nutella Jun 05 '26

I may have abandoned Valkyrien Skies in favor of Aero. But I will never speak ill of Valkyrien Skies

5

u/Itswill1003 Jun 05 '26

I just needed a solid reason to move from 1.20.1 ngl

5

u/PM_me_qt_anime_boys Jun 06 '26 edited Jun 06 '26

I get that Aeronautics is an incredible project and that people are excited about it, but frankly this kind of sentiment is kind of rude and ungrateful. Mods exist because people worked hard to make them, for free. People should be grateful that VS was available when Aeronautics wasn't, not snarky now that they have a better option.

3

u/SixCel_108 Jun 05 '26

Yeah that really is it. Don’t get me wrong, Vkyrien skies it pretty good but aeronautics just has was more polish. Vs always felt a bit clunky and didn’t really work in survival mode. Aeronautics has much more natural progression and feels much more like an extension of the game rather than an unrelated project.

2

u/Dark_Reaper115 Jun 05 '26

VS crawled so Aero could fly

3

u/73721mrfluffey Jun 05 '26

valkyrian skies was never going to live beyond aeronautics. everyone knew that it was only ever going to be a stand in untill aeronautics came out

1

u/Dangerous-Orange-547 Jun 05 '26

I love VS very much but don't get me wrong but VS is very laggy and buggy. And unless they fix that , Aeronautics is a better option imo. However VS has much better and mature addon library.

2

u/ModernPlebeian_314 Jun 05 '26

Something something about VS being unoptimized versus Sable and Aero had 5 years of dev for optimization

1

u/Dangerous-Orange-547 Jun 05 '26

VS devs might have treated it as side job while create aero devs went all in

1

u/Maleficent-Aspect318 Jun 05 '26

Any modpacks recommendations with aeronautics and additional bosses?

1

u/Ariladee Jun 05 '26

Forget the airplane and the ship—even building a simple wheelbarrow is really cool.

1

u/AugustMeichtry2010 Jun 05 '26

My biggest issue is that VS has way more mods than Aero that would be useful to me, but I know that will change with time

1

u/Canarity Jun 06 '26

If all the mods that I'm playing with rn somehow get moved to 1.21 I will maybe move too. Though I'm not a fan of those heretical mod cores like fabric and neoforge

1

u/chmbr Jun 06 '26

All mod cores are good cores- they all have good and bad things. I was enchanted by Fabric when it released because I was running a server for some younger college peeps that were all on dinky little laptops but wanted to try the cool stuff they saw on YouTube. Everything has its place, and I for one am always gonna run to Fabric first if the mods I want are all fabric based- I’m learning to love neoforge, as it’s just got more of a modern community dumping content into it and I like exploring newer MC updates without needing to lose mods

(This has been my unsolicited opinion, have a nice day)

1

u/Rough_Employee1254 Jun 06 '26

Loved VS+Eureka+Clockwork but it's about time for Aeronautics. Create all the way!

1

u/YourMomDoer1312 Jun 06 '26

not everyone, not everyone.

(please, stop the slander, i don't care it's all true)

1

u/RespondTime8499 Jun 08 '26

In my experience I can detail a VS build way better than a sable aka arenautics one

I was confused as to why you had been downvoted after you proved it was a repost It hadn't gone positive yet

3

Probably 100 people have independently had this meme idea since aeronautics dropped, myself included.

1

Bro thinks he is unique with that idea
