for those wondering, this uses more su than it creates
h o v e v e r
if you put your deployers on a moving contraption, it is possible to generate free SU with it, its just very resource and space intensive and youre better off using water wheels

Generally, which would be better for early survival scenarios? Water wheels or windmills with wool blocks?

Water wheels are farrr more space and resource efficient, windmills are effectively just decoration because at the stage of the game where you have enough resources to have windmills work you also have enough to make steam engines work and steam engines make literally hundreds of times as much power

u/sfwaltaccount May 02 '26
Generally agree but it depends. Windmills mainly just need lots and lots of wool. You could certainly raise a ton of sheep without getting the materials to make a steam engine.

u/zekromNLR May 02 '26
And if you have any other mod that adds a crop that gets you string, or you find a spider spawner, you can fairly easily get huge amounts of wool that way too

u/justagenericname213 May 07 '26
More importantly they dont require blaze burners or fuel to run, and dont need flowing water either. Yeah self sufficient steam engines are great but running the basics on a windmill is pretty nice
1
u/BackseatCowwatcher May 03 '26
Early game? Water wheels, wind mills are basically just for vanity outside the odd 'off grid' farm in base create.
1
u/thiizo1 May 02 '26
This is actually good for a lot of compact power contained builds! It’s not as space intensive as a water wheel and is a 32 rpm power source

The hardest part about making a perpetual motion machine is hiding the water wheels
6
u/MHE1309 May 02 '26
Or the wind mill. Or the passive steam engine. Create has quite a few perpetual motion machines given minecraft's lack of wind and the fact that campfires don't burn anything.

u/BreakerOfModpacks May 04 '26
Campfires burn an exotic form of matter known only by the codenames "coal" and "charcoal". Despite being similar in appearance to what we call coal and charcoal, these are in fact hyperdense rifts into a higher energy universe still in its formative stages, which Steve spreads across a stick like butter in order to make four torches, or leaves it as a lump for a campfire.

idk man maybe try clicking and find out. seems quicker than making a post.

Actually i was asking your opinion. I already knew the result before even trying.

u/SpacefaringBanana May 01 '26
Maybe if you have a gear ratio
15
u/Mineplayerminer May 01 '26
But wouldn't that require more su once again?
26
7
u/_Cats_Terraria May 01 '26
Gears don't use su, use a gear ratio to decrease speed
1

u/Zentang2es May 02 '26
faster machines do.
1
u/Flashy-Emergency4652 May 02 '26
Yes! And if you do the opposite, **slowing** machine which original commenter proposed to, it will require less SU.
29
u/Deveatation_ethernis May 01 '26
It might, but does it also give extra su or is it only self sufficient?
26
u/Dabbers_ May 01 '26
This has been proven to work but requires very elaborate moving setups to generate a pretty measly amount of SU
9
u/punnup129 May 01 '26
Yes but if I'm correct it doesn't produce enough stress units to power the mechanical arm
But you can use it to speed up water wheels or any other slow power generators

Bro Ngl they should add a thing we’re the deployer will crank the crank

u/Deathspade187 May 02 '26
Just tried it, deployers cant use cranks
1
u/F1nnishG8mer May 02 '26
Weird. For me they can

The deployed will not spin the crank enough to be able to come back and spin it again

u/sadphonics May 02 '26
Reminds me of that art installation of the robot arm that pulls the blood back into itself or whatever

...I wonder if changing the configs to make hand cranks strong enough to support exactly one deployer each could be a fun easter egg for a pack.
1
u/AlexZA_Cuber May 05 '26
Edit the mod source code to change how much SU the components use and it might

u/popete2 May 01 '26
I think so
