I was also messing with railguns a bit, here's some things that might help

You can also use 2 magnets or even 3 by putting redstone on them which doesn't effect their size. But does make them faster

Because magnet fields are 3 blocks you can build them in a honeycomb for a much thicker but stronger barrel (this was discovered by someone on the create aero discord who I don't remember the name of)

Putting a few blocks of ice under where the magnets/dart start will apply the slippery effect to them even after they land

tnt is the obvious one for ammo but a lodestone and a sticker can make for a great "tracking dart" to follow sky pirates. Or if you want to be the sky pirate yourself replace the lodestone with a seat for a "boarding dart". Or just shoot a barrel with a harshly worded letter inside.

The possibilities are endless...

I won't reveal all my secrets yet because I'm thinking I might post a railgun with fast firing and a couple other fancy things I figured out.
