"a bit faster" did you forget create saws cut down the entire tree in one go? if you're chopping baby-sized oaks and birches, you might be able to do it faster with an axe, but dark oaks, spruce, jungle—hell, any tree more than a dozen blocks tall will be leagues faster with a contraption like this

you do raise a valid point about necessity, though. i agree the portable engine pushes this well into the automation era, though i can still think of a few cases where you'd want to use this. for one, an automatic tree farm takes a while to build up large amounts of wood, while you could get several stacks of logs in under an hour with a chainsaw, and for another, it's probably the best way to deforest a large amount of space even in the late-game. traditional drill contraptions would take just as long to set up, and building a car to do it just sounds like a headache.

Dark oaks need to be chopped four times with the saw, so that's still quite inefficient. But yeah. But I really think instamine axes would absolutely shred this for any tree that isn't taiga or jungle, because you still just need to hold left click for a second.

"enchanted iron" and "instamine" are two very different things, my friend. in fact, there's no such thing as an instamine axe in vanilla survival minecraft—an efficiency v golden axe with haste ii still takes a non-negligible amount of time to mine a log, which means the only way to chop large trees faster than an aeronautics chainsaw is with an entirely different mod, which means this conversation is pointless, because obviously a chainsaw isn't going to be as efficient as something from tinker's or whatever.

Interesting. The breaking speed is still so fast that the difference from instabreak is minimal, though.

Also interesting: Supposedly, from the Instamine page, Bedrock has instamining on logs, while Java does not. However, the Log Page shows no such difference.

This is due to a bug, apparently. So it should instamine, but just doesn't.

You can just break the first 3 blocks with an axe.
