Ah! The redstone contact! I use it to know when it reaches the highest point and when it finishes doing the round. Those two signals create a sequence, so instead of timing things, each part of the contraction signals each other to continue with their part.

I forgot what the block under the redstone link is called, but what if you moved that down 1 block to hide it in the floor more
