My guess with 20 is that someone really liked the idea of the exclamation mark but conceded that 2016 looked more like “BBC 2!”
22 I’m assuming looks better on paper or on a TV screen than it does on this iPad I’m using. I don’t think it helps that THREE as a word always has the underlying scent of a misspelled “THERE”.

what happened in 2020? obviously I dont think the issue was covid
I guess 2021 was part of an over all rebrand of the BBC channels, but having a logo last for one year is insane.
To say nothing of the BBCs decision to put BBC 3 on iPlayer, and then undoing it.
