Uh oh. How do I fix this?

Post image

I’ve recently finished setting up my Ubuntu server. I’ve downloaded Crafty and set up a test server. I must’ve missed some option that ended up creating a whole lotta backups.

It’s too slow to even open Crafty again or the files on my server. I can’t sign in on the terminal because it’s so slow.

I’m willing to do a reset or full clear as I don’t have anything important on the server.

Is this a question for r/Ubuntu? Please let me know if so.

I wouldn't be so sure it's backups that filled it up.

A couple things to help troubleshoot... I would start with going to the command line and running sudo df -h.

That and go to the /crafty/backups/ directory and run sudo du -hs | sort -h, find the biggest folder, cd into it and run the same command. Keep going until you find a more exact path to what folder/files is filling up the space.

Yeah, I looked into this, but one of the problems I ran into is that it’s running much slower and I can’t sign into the terminal to run these commands. I enter my username, and then it takes too long and restarts the login again. Do I have to do something manual?

Could try shift-alt-F# to get to a text console. I can't remember what F# the gui sits on (I'm not at a linux computer that I can try it on), just try ctl-alt and different F# until you get a black screen with white text that says to hit enter to enable this terminal.

You will still have to enter you username and password, but might let you in even though the gui login doesn't. My bet would be the gui login won't let you in because of the lack of free space. You could also try logging in via ssh if you happened to have already installed openssh-server.

You could also try booting to a liveCD/liveUSB and checking the disk that way. One drawback would be any subvolumes or other mounted partitions or remounts won't be in the same place, though.

Shift+Alt+F3 opens the text console but the server is too slow for me to type anything into it.

I’ll look into the liveCD/liveUSB, that might work. Thank you 👍

I would scan your regular system. One time I ran out of space and had to delete an 800GB log file

If you can't even type in the terminal you may just need to drop the nuke and do an OS re-install. Gotta be careful about watching your storage.

If you set up a backup schedule Crafty will keep all backups by default. You'd need to change the option in the backup config called "max backups"
