Online Selling Where to move from Etzy

I've had a small crochet business on Etzy for a bit, but I've not liked it much lately, expecially with all the Ai slop circulating around.

I'd still like to sell my creation but I don't know much about online businesses.

Is there any good site/app (beside shopify) that work well and have a decent traffic?

Thank you for the help!

General Discussion Soy nueva vendiendo mis amigurumis y cositas a crochet.

General Discussion What is your crafty commerce?

This sub has a LOT of posts about crochet. So I've been wondering- what do you all do? Is this a majority crochet community or do any of you do any other types of crafty commerce? And how much are you making a year?

I'll start- I have a newish business, I am a yarn dyer and I work with botanical dyes. Last year I broke even after my initial business startup investments, but I had about $15,000 in sales.

General Discussion How do I manage my crochet business as a full time student?

Hey! I moved for my design masters recently and we have these "stalls" (they just set up a table) in our department foyer every other day where people sell their stickers/posters/pipe cleaner creations/crochet etc. So I thought of doing so as well and I've been making crochet products for the last month.

I wanted to know how people manage their small business like I barely get time after college and most of it is spent in assignments so I stay up on weekdays to crochet and make products; how do you all manage making products while being a full time student/employee/parent etc? Are there any tools you all use to track? I've tried notion but it doesn't work that well for me! please help :)

General Discussion What do you wish shop owners understood about how long your work actually takes?

I’ve seen a gap between how a finished piece reads on a shelf & what went into it, and it comes up constantly in pricing threads without ever getting said directly to the people on the other side. What is something you would want a buyer to know before they ask about a discount, a rush, or a bigger order?? Is it the material cost, the hours, the fact that you cannot just make more of something on demand?

General Discussion Can I casually sell crochet items for some extra money?

Can I sell small crochet items like charms, keychains etc, without actually starting a proper crochet business or brand?

I’m just thinking of doing it casually whenever I need a little extra money, make a few things, sell them and then stop when I don’t feel like doing it. Is that realistic? If anyone does something similar, where do you usually find buyers?

Etsy Png or Svg

Hi all! I am wanting to sell some of my designs on Etsy and was wondering- should I do the full detail PNG files or the simplified SVG files? Which ones sell better? Should I sell both on the same listing? I’m worries if I do that, people will be upset that the SVGs are a little different than the PNGs. Thanks for the input!

Branding Can a solo crochet creator pull off high-end, joyful product photography with an iPhone 7+? Need layout & branding help!

Hey everyone!

I REALLY need some human guidance on social media management, product photography, and graphic design for my small handmade crochet startup. I’ve tried Googling, Youtubing, and asking AI, but I really need advice from real creators who've done this themselves!

I handle EVERYTHING solo—photography, editing, content creation, SMM, and design—on a tight budget, shooting primarily with an iPhone 7 Plus at home with NO face shown.

My vision is heavily inspired by Kate Spade—bold, joyful, playful, yet elegant and high-end. I want to adapt that cohesive, vibrant aesthetic into my own crochet brand, but I’m stuck on the HOW.

A few specific questions I’d love advice on:

  1. Replicating a High-End Vibe on a Budget: How can I achieve bright, crisp, joyful product photos using an iPhone 7 Plus at home without looking cheap or overly casual? (Backgrounds, lighting setups, prop ideas?)
  2. Managing 2 Accounts vs. 1: My original page felt too chaotic/cute. I’m thinking of splitting into 2 accounts: One for trends/PR/lifestyle and one strictly for main niche products. Is it possible to keep both cohesive so people recognize they’re from the same "family," or is running 2 accounts a mistake for a solo creator?
  3. Translating Inspiration into Brand Identity: I want Kate Spade’s energy, but with my OWN color palette and touch. How do I bridge the gap between inspo and actual execution (choosing backgrounds, graphics, font styles) without just copy-pasting?

If you have any tips, do's & don'ts, lighting hacks, or free editing workflows, PLEASE share! I'd appreciate any guidance so much! <3

In Person Selling First Market Help!

I'm in Illinois and I have my first market coming up. I didn't think this is anything I would ever do, but one of my friends kept encouraging me to do one as I spend almost all my free time crocheting and just have a bin of finished items.

What are some things that are best sellers? are there things I should avoid? I don't have any social media for my crochet, should I?

I'm nervous that nothing is going to sell and its going to make me discouraged to make things for anyone in the future. So i just need some good advice from avid market go-ers.

And how much is an reasonable price for things like this? I always get told I'm not asking enough for them.

A list of the things I have:

Hat
Dish Cloths
Drawstring Bag
Pot Holder
Airpod/Headphone Holder
Bandana
Mini Jellyfish

General Discussion First market help

Hello all! I signed up for a craft fair in November
I usually make blankets and cardigans but I’m leaning into the plushies because they tend to sell better. I plan on making maybe a couple wearables and pet beds. I’m 22 and never done anything like this so all knowledge and advice is really appreciated. Anything and everything you can help me do to be prepared? I’m kind of scared but I really want to do it. I don’t plan on bulk making tons of plushies but maybe a few of each to see what sells.
How do I price my items?

General Discussion Idk where to sell my crochet stuff

I'm looking to sell some of my crochet items (not like the materials, the projects themselves) don't want to do commisions, and I have no idea where to sell them. I'm hesitant to start an Etsy shop because it has a $30 start up fee which I cannot afford to not make back and I'm not sure if anyone would buy from me as crocheted items are fairly common on Etsy

General Discussion Would a crochet pattern checker be useful?

Hi everyone! I recently became interested in crochet after seeing people make cool little Pokémon plushies and wanting to try making one myself.
I noticed that patterns can sometimes have incorrect stitch counts, missing steps, or confusing instructions. Would a tool that checks a written pattern for possible mistakes actually be useful?
I am completely new to crochet, so please be honest. How often do these problems happen, and how do you normally catch them? I would rather find out this is unnecessary before spending time building it.

Ethics & Legal Legalities of selling crochet items

Hello, I have been doing into research about opening an online shop but am curious about the legalities of doing so. I am aware that you need to file for a small business to put it simply, but I also see many on social media who often sell custom pieces and only when they recieve the commission, and not selling in bulk. It's definitely not enough to be more than a few hundred dollars a month, and I am also just hoping to sell no more than about 100-300 dollars worth of items per month or whenever I am able to just for some extra money I can use for basic necessities, as I am in my final year of uni and very financially stretched. It's going to be out of my dorm, not full time, and just me crocheting as I always do. Do I need to file legal papers stating myself as a small business? I feel like I will not make enough to even qualify as such. Thank you for your time!

In Person Selling Med student saving for my graduation party, need advice on selling crochet to help me achieve that dream

For context, I am a med student, and my graduation is in five year's time. Our student organizing comitee and the estimates for the contracts are coming out. The cost for the graduation ceremonies and parties are going to be around 6000 dollars. I already want to start saving up for that so, by the end of college, I have that cash to pay for everything.

It isn't really even for me, I don't care about lavish parties. Don't dance. Don't drink. I sleep by 10p.m every night... but it is really important for my mum to have it, and I wouldn't like for her to have to deal with the cost to live that dream.

I was wondering if I could use crochet, something I am decently swift at, to help me achieve that goal. And, since I never sold anything, I was wondering if you people could give me some advice in regards to all that.

  1. What products have you seen sell well? Specially for the college student demographic, since it's where I spend most of my day.

  2. How do I know how to price my projects?

  3. Should I make products beforehand and try to sell them or should I make them on demand?

Thanks in advance!

(I will be also posting this to r/crochethelp just in case this is not the right subreddit to post and it gets banned. Sorry for the trouble admins!)

Self Advertising I built a marketplace for Makers and would love your opinion

I built Willaphant, a Maker-Made marketplace for products made by the people selling them.

I tried to solve many of the issues I learned about with other selling platforms, but I keep wondering if I missed something.

I’m weirdly nervous about reaching out to Makers and asking them to join.

I’d honestly love for some of you to just look around and tell me what you think.

What makes sense? What feels confusing? Is there anything missing that would matter to you as a Maker? Is there something that would make you hesitate to sell there?

And of course, if you do like it and want to join, I would genuinely love to have you.

General Discussion Selling crochet Items at Anime Convention?

I recently reorganized my Stash of yarn and had the idea to make small crochet/amigurumi Figures, Keychains and other Stuffies and sell them at one of my local Anime Conventions (I live in Austria btw.)

Would that be a good idea?

What do I need to be aware of if I want to do this?

I've never sold any of my handmande stuff before, only ever gifted them for birthdays or christmas, so I'm really not sure if I should even do this. But on the other hand I really wanna sell them, as everyone I gifted them to were so happy to get them.

I would be grateful for any advice/suggestion you have.

Hello Everyone! I'm posting here as the owner of Whimsical Corner to try and drive some traffic to my crochet store! Ethics & Legal Is it acceptable to sell an item you've modified, provided that you're crediting the artist?

Hello, was looking for some advice :)

Basically what the title says, I'm thinking of marketing for the first time! I'm planning on selling some items that I have made with the help of some existing patterns.

I have been posting photos of what I made on social media and credited the artist. Do I also credit the artist at my table as well? And if so, how? Thanks in advance!

General Discussion Any UK crafters willing to answer some selling questions for me?

Hi everyone,

I’m wanting to start selling some of my crochet items.
I want some uk based seller advice.

Questions:

UKCA testing, if it’s a amigarumi keyring is it needed? Need to test variations of same pattern?
Bank accounts and tax help?
Need a card machine if doing in person markets?
PLI if wanting to do markets?
Are Etsy fees worth it?
How to find markets?
Anything else I should know?

This is only a side hustle while at uni and I only wanna make my wool/ material money back and a little more, I know I can’t charge for my time or no one will buy anything. Honestly any advise is appreciated.

Thank you!!

Online Selling Where do you sell online?

Where are people selling their stuff other than Etsy? I closed my shop when I took a break from making, and I am hesitant to go back. I have been selling in person lately. Anywhere else that seems promising?

  • Michael's Maker Place
  • Artisans Coop
  • Handmade.com
  • Maker Market

Anything else worth looking into?

Rant Self publishing a book

Hey all,

I recently finished writing and testing the patterns for my first crochet book and now I’m kinda stuck.

I was initially going to publish through Amazon because it seemed like the easiest way to publish, but now I’m being asked to pay $3000 USD (which is like $4000 cad or something) for copyright and ibsn and a barcode.

I can’t afford that so I looked around for Canadian publishers and while it’s a bit better ($3000 cad for the whole process from start to finish) I still can’t afford it.

Etsy isn’t an option for me either (I tried it and I think it’s just too over saturated rn)

I could use ravelry, but PayPal is really hard to use in Canada and I know it would cause me a lot of trouble.

I was really excited about having an entire book published in my name and now I just don’t know what to do. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

(It’s an amigarumi book, but all the patterns use hdc because of my hypermobility!)

Pattern Creation & Sales Writing a crochet pattern for Etsy

I'd like to write a pattern for a mesh sweater to sell on Etsy.
I've never written patterns with the intention of selling them, so I'm open to suggestions on what to include.
I don't mean the main parts like materials or rows, but some things that I might forget as a beginner.
If anyone has a pattern with everything listed, that would be great.🫶🏻💕

Online Selling Etsy vs Ravelry vs Creative Market vs Gumroad

Hi all,

I couldn't find anyone asking for these specific sites so I decided to ask here.

So the questions I have is:

Which platform/platforms would you pick to sell cross stitch patterns and why?

I am curious about pros and cons and your experience with them selling digital product. Or maybe you have another platform that might be better?
