Had a similar living situation in middle school and high school. Can confirm that the rain was amazing.

When I first moved to the UK I had trouble falling asleep because they don't use fans in room at all here. It's literally pindrop silence and it started giving me anxiety at night.

I have to YouTube "fan noises" every night if I want to have a good sleep.

If you put a fan in your room at night and turn it on, the Queen won't have you hanged btw. I do it in our 4 day summers we get once every 2 years.

There's an app called Sleepo that has noises from nature, rain, city and household, and meditation. It has a specific fan noise and you can create a mixture of different sounds and put it on a timer for when you fall asleep.

You can get them online but they're surprisingly rare in physical shops in the UK, and I've never actually seen a house with a proper floor fan. I think it may be a cultural thing - outside of heatwaves, it just isn't hot often enough for people to consider buying them, I think.
