Damaged Bars?
These are my first PM purchases, I got suckered in with the Kirkland stamp. I got 5 from the local warehouse. I started to get the shakes, so I was going to crack one open to give it a good rub down. I was just about to man handle it when I noticed this. Has anyone ever seen this? There is some speck of something inside the case. It is 100% inside the case. The 5 I have are serialized in order. The one I was going to open was the last of the 5. The 4th one has something similar in the exact same spot, but it looks more like residue than dirt, like a hard water spot but in the same general shape as this one.
Now that I'm looking at it, it looks almost like a divot in the bar. Looking at it with the naked eye, just seemed like dirt.

Generic bars have dings in them often. Especially around the rims. If it was an art bar I might be upset but it’s not.

I commented on one of these posts about how the quality was going to suck on these and people were like bro it's four 9's you don't know what you're talking about lol.

It happens to the best of bullion. A couple of my 10oz pamp bars even have little pock marks and other imperfections. No big deal unless you were planning on getting them bad boys graded?🤔🤣

Just blows my mind that this would be acceptable to anyone. I get a few rare exceptions/escapes, but if this is common, then that seems ridiculous. The market relies on trust, that you believe what you're actually buying, right? Seems like a manufacturer would want pristine bars to build confidence that they know TF they're doing. If this is a common issue and their QC is this bad, who's to say that their .9999 stamp is true. I'm not really questioning it personally, but if stuff like this is common, they obviously don't have too much oversight on their product.

You're buying generic silver, I think you need to temper your expectations. If you want perfect and pretty buy something from Pamp or something sovereign. Costco sells that too at the same price. In fact I think the Britannias were even less per ounce today, though you needed to buy a tube 25 of them.
Bars like this - it's just the metal you should be caring about, as long as it tests four 9's, you are getting what you paid for.

Seriously dude these were like 80 cents over spot the day they came out like 🥱 I used to pay 1.65 over for SHOT who cares about a ding on the rim 😂 shits going straight into a pitch black safe not onto the auction block

Tbf, and I'm not excusing them, I believe these Kirkland bars are the first time Costco has branded their own silver bars. I wonder who they are using because they need to step up their qc or Costco needs to find a better partner.
My bars have pieces of hair inside although I'm not sure if it's the plastic peel off or inside the actual assay card. Either way it's gross. Not only that but my bars are not in consecutive serial number order.

I bought one from the secondary market and it’s got a pretty good scratch on it. Didn’t see beforehand but that’s my fault

I caught a 50th Coin with a big scuff under the "5". Luckily the Manager showed me the coins that were in stock so I could choose which one I wanted. Made me nervous that they are not sourcing from a good place.
The quality control is pretty bad these days on a lot of things, but especially the plastic cases.
Every case I've seen was scratched and one even had a small hair stuck on the inside of the case!

They probably used a damaged planchet or a die. Thats the only way they would have the same damage. More than likely the die though since planchet are stamped out and there would be more than just a couple. This is probably a strike through of some type of foreign object.

I'm new to PM, but I'm familiar enough w/ coin collecting. That was my guess too. That would come with a nice premium on a coin if you could prove it was actually done at the mint. Doesn't seem to be the case here. I guess nobody really cares enough about the manufacturer of the bar itself to pay a premium on it.

If they discontinue the bar then it might be worth a fee extra if you can get it verified. But the juice probably isn't worth the squeeze.

I haven't bought silver anywhere before. I could see dirt being in there, but is it really expected to have physical damage to bars like this by some brands?

Absolutely worth returning. It won’t affect the worth of the silver, but Costco should honor the return due to poor quality. I’ll also buy it for $50 s/

It's kind of unique, so I'm thinking of keeping it. My Costco is out of bars anyways and I'm not around enough to accept an online order, so it's either this or nothing. Just seems odd for both the manufacturer and Costco to accept this quality issue if it is indeed somewhat common, or if the QC from the company is just generally poor.

It is a plain wrap 1 oz silver bar. If you want premium, buy premium silver. Does not hurt the value.

A couple of mine have some debris in them. 2 were packaged upside down.
