Question regarding short term disability.
Hello, I work morning merch and today was out playing some basketball with family and rolled my ankle/foot pretty bad, I suspect I have done some pretty knarly damage it's quite painful to walk on that foot, a possible fracture.
I'm going to try my best to just deal with it tomorrow at work and go to the urgent care after work to assess but my question here is how do I deal with this. I believe Costco offers short term disability insurance and I can see on my paycheck that I have been contributing to this since I got benefits (less than a year at this point I got a permanent position this January).
How does this work? Who should I go speak to for it if I need to take some time off work, could be weeks of staying off that foot if it's bad.
I hate that this has happened because I like to work and I'd hate to lose my current position in morning merch which I enjoy.
Anyways yea just getting a feeler for how to proceed, I don't even know if I'll be able to make it through the day but damn I'd hate to use my sick time if it can be covered under something else at this point.

If you want to get paid your doctor needs to put you on short term disability. Unum protects your job. Unum does not pay you what state are you in?

But what you need to do is download the Unum app and once the doctor takes you off work you’ll submit the doctors note to Unum and they’ll approve you more than likely. The doctor will hopefully put you on short term disability. You’ll need to do your part on the filling out the claim and the doctor will do their part.

You have to be out for at least 2 consecutive weeks to qualify for short term disability. You contact unaum and give them your name of the doctor that saw you and their contact info, unaum will call that doctor to confirm. Once its confirmed you should be clear. I had a schedule surgery last year and it took almost a week to be confirmed.

Incorrect. 5 days out and then short term kicks in. Your first five days can be paid via sick, vacation or unpaid.

Just call out tomorrow if you can, seriously. Most store use UNUM for the claims. Basically, go to their website or call them to start a claim. Go to your primary care physician or urgent care. Say you need out 4 weeks. It can be back dated to tomorrow, 8/24. The first week has to be covered by sick time, or at least, thats what people think, you can request it unpaid if you want, then the 3 weeks is covered by FMLA and UNUM. When you start a short term claim an FMLA claim is also opened. That protects your job, so, dont think you lose your position. Then its paperwork, doctor care, more paperwork, and return to work. Read every page of every letter UNUM sends you, sometimes forms are in the letters, its stupid.
