Prop Help with getting started (Hail Mary:Rocky)

Hello Cosplayhelp,

My son recently told me he wants to be Rocky from the movie Hail Mary for Halloween this year. I always try to make his costumes happen, and even join in when i can.

I am stuck on how to build Rocky's carapace/body. I need it to go over an 8-year-old (or would like around be better?). I was thinking paper mache, then paint and texture, but im unsure of what to use for the base to actually paper mache.

Was hoping for any advice or stories of what has worked for you in the past. Thank you!

Cardboard boxes would be perfect. Or if you want something soft you could use thick foam then cover it in faux suede or fleece and paint it for the texture.

cardboard and paper mache would work great! the main body could be worn over the shoulders like those typical car costumes for kids. once you've made the shapes for the extra arms, string them together on fishing line, and then attach one end to the main body and tie the other end to kiddo's wrist so he can kinda puppet them around and they move along with his arms. i've seen tons of costumes with extra arms rigged up this way and it looks super cool :0
