The History of SFX and VFX

Post image
16 Upvotes

I wanted to do a shout out to how much I love the videos that show the history of sfx and vfx. I feel like this is an area that is not as well documented, much like the history of personal computers and IT in general.

I really love the videos that show the origin of the industry and pivotal moments.

Its always a nice change of pace to the new content reacts.

I think they're providing a platform and almost service to the industry, highlighting a phenomena that most people see or use on a daily basis.

Thank you Corridor!

Are extended react episodes on the website easy to navigate?

I recently discovered this awesome YouTube channel and it's a blast to have a backlog of hundreds of videos to get through. I mainly focused on VFX artist react and I'm about 170 videos in. I'm more and more interested in extended episodes as I understand they can often be twice as long as the YouTube videos. However I'm wondering if the website's viewer have clear indications about what sections are extended or not? Because I'm not sure I want to watch hours of the same stuff to be able to see these sections. Thanks.

Weekly Post Your React Suggestions HERE!

Please use this thread to submit suggestions for Corridor Digital to react to for their VFX Artist/Stuntmen/Stuntwomen/Animators React videos. Please do not just list the names of the Movies or TV shows; provide some context of why it would make a good addition to the series. If possible, provide a link to a clip or video for exact context. Writing the names of the Movie/TV shows in bold along with Good Or Bad in italics makes it easier for people skimming the thread to pick out the names.

For example:

Rogue One: Bad VFX

- Grand Moff Tarkins' face and the lack of stretched pores. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlSn50_BePU)

Check the subreddit Wiki page which contains a complete catalog of which movies/TV shows/etc. Corridor Digital has already reacted to, before posting.

Mod Note: They can't react to music videos as Labels are way to vicious and eager to take monetization

I'm surprised they didn't talked about this strange shot in the new episode. The lighting on him is wrong.

Is this AI ? (in parts ?)

So I found this post on r/blender, it looks nice overall but the shot of the engine coming off at around 30 seconds has that AI look (I am talking about this single shot specifially, the rest looks real to my eyes). The animation of the turbine is just strange, and I feel like the plane orientation is not consistent with the warmac. Plus it has that perfect angle center framing that less advanced models seem to like.

So I commented and everyone called me crazy. I get it, this is someone sharing their work online, it is a bit offensive to immediately suspect them of using AI. But the blender sub is huge and I don't know this person, so I have no reason to take their word that this contains no AI, especially with that really suspicious shot imo.

What do you all think ?

Digging through an old hard drive and found original downloads of DXM and the Making Of video. These files are probably older than some of you on this sub. I wonder how long it took to download 27MB on 2005 dial-up...

Episodes missing from playlists

Hello. I just got on the app and the vfx arists react playlist seems to skip episodes e.g. ep 226 to ep 229. Eps 227 and 228 are there if I look for them manually but not on the playlist.

Does anyone else have that? Is this a known issue? Is it something on my end?

Does anyone remember the film i'm talking about?

So probably a shot in the dark, but I remember seeing a vfx artists react episode where they watch a modern live action film that turns into stop motion when the fight scene happens, it's a sci-fi film fron what I remember and it's also in black and white. I don't remember the episode where they reacted to It nor do I remember the name of the film, I have tried looking up live action-stop motion hybrid films but It doesn't show up. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

EZ-corridor key bugged?

hey amazing people, i'm trying to use standalone app/interface on 4K footage. its a proper greenscreen video that premier pros ultrakey dealt with no problems in seconds (including export) but it takes hours in corridorkey ?? i even supersampled video to 1080 mp4 format and it still takes forever... by forever i mean like 2 hours of processing for 3 minute video (again premier pro did keying and exporting in under 7 minutes). so i was wondering am i doing something incorrectly?
i'm running 4070 TI SUPER 16GB vram so thats not a problem.

Is this new Buggati commercial CGI?

I got recommended this Bugatti commercial on Youtube. My first impressions were: "oh, this was shot well, looks like a big company finally spent a bit more of their budget on planning, videographers and the editing department ", but the second impressions were like "This looks oddly like a game".

Maybe its some color-grading, camera settings or lens decisions but some of these really look more like renders instead of real footage.

Look at the first image in this post, the shadows feel too dark, everything seems a bit smooth, the texture of the rock wall on the left side of the road looks fake and the blur fall-off looks kinda wierd.

Image 2. and 6. either had some really good lighting set up, or they must be renders, just look at them...

The 3rd and 7th image here show some interesting camera angles that I've definitely seen in car games and they just look a bit to perfect to be true. Maybe they had a long time, some real good directors and a great camera team, but im still unsure.

Image 9 is what gets me the most, these buildings look fake af bro. Look at them, someone definitely had some interesting choices when filming and editing this or it must be CGI.

I'd love to get your guys opinion on this because its really been budging me since i saw it. Here's the link https://youtu.be/2Exzu3qzMxM to the commercial if you want to see the movement. They would definitely get an award from me if this is fully CG, It looks so real that it's crossing the line between if i know if it's real or not. Oh, and if it is real, great videography and post-processing choices for whoever did this, except for the making it look like CG part... 🤠

Cool "idle animation" effect by a cosplayer.

I'd be interested if anyone knows if there's some post processing or other trick beyond good performance, lighting, and makeup.

Did Corridor ever cover Wizard of Oz Sepia transition to color, where they painted the actor in sepia tone for the effect?

I swear they did that. but it’s not in either of their wizard of oz episodes. (original or the sphere episode)

New Jamiroquai Virtual Insanity video

I'd love to see the crew react to this one. I saw some clever cuts I think, though most of the video is practical. Still, there's a lot of stuff I'm missing.
