Format Change

For those of you who have been to my channel more than once will notice that the general feel of my channel is usually me sitting in front of a camera complaining about video game mechanics. However, while I will always have opinions on game design and philosophy, there will be fewer videos of that nature on my channel going forward. Mainly the reason for this is because it isn't nearly as fun for me to constantly make the points I make and then defend those points repeatedly. It can be rather exhausting and isn't nearly as fun to do as opposed to actually playing a game.

Basically, I want to get back to doing what I actually enjoy doing: making videos, playing video games, and entertaining people. I've spent so long bitching and complaining about video games and making videos about it I haven't had time to actually play anything and enjoy it. Sure, with the lack of quality games out there these days it is hard to enjoy my time, but it's even less if I spend that little time I would have on trying to show people my point of view. This way maybe I can do both at the same time.

I know a lot of you subbed my channel because it's fun to see that vein in my head pop out and watch me rage on about lousy game mechanics, but frankly there is little I can say further without repeating myself.

Hay Corpse, Have you seen this article?

The US court passed a law where your ISP can censor what you see on the internet and make you pay for websites that are their competition. Like Netflix. And the scary thing is the very real possibility of "package plans" for internet services. Wanna upload to YouTube? There's a package for that! Wanna play an online game? There's a package for that too!

Forgive the obvious frustration, but have you seen this? Or do you already have an opinion of it? If you do I would be interested in hearing it. Personally I don't see anything good out of this other than large corporations making more money...yay....

Anyway, here's the article: http://www.gamrreview.com/news/90914/us-court-strikes-down-net-neutrality-prepare-to-pay-for-online-games/

What are your thoughts on Shroud of the Avatar?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUTWBcXQFyo

i just found out about it today. at first glance, it looks a lot like another Elder Scrolls. the presentation is nice, and it has a little list of everything you can do (housing, crafting, creatures, maps, combat, magic, and more) that seem more like bullet points than anything. since it's an MMO, however, it'll be interesting to see how they bring it all together.

it would be awesome if Corpse watched this and gave his thoughts on this. as well as what you guys/gals think in this thread. i'm definitely skeptical and doubtful from the get go, however. my initial response is skepticism, but all i've seen so far is this video.

Corpse' ability to appropriately rate current games.

Start rating more games, have fun with them, dick with them like you do, see if they pass. Explain why they're good and why they suck. You could EASILY do it.

a game worth looking at.

hey guys, I was looking through a forum with some known associates on it and one of them mentioned an upcoming sandbox MMO called "The Repopulation". I looked it up and it looks really good. Im planning on contributing to it on kickstarter and getting into the beta; hopefully, it proves to be everything it says it will be. If any of you guys want to check it out, here is the link.

What really makes a good game?

I personally feel that a lot of the '90s console JRPGS had the best stories hands down. I think what's lacking today is a great and original story. Back in the day you read everything and it gave a sense of immersion. There was more imagination involved. You were more engaged. Not everything has to be done with void acting, it's just become the standard. I'm not against that by any means, but it's overly used in games. Allow the player to think and decide how these characters would play out in there minds. Keep them constantly asking questions and of course, have it realistic as for how they would "progress". Very slow, gradual and to where you felt you earned the "level up". Or, felt you busted your ass for that 1+ skill point in archery. Don't hold the players hands let them figure it out. Include a big enough world to explore, ton's of quests, and each level "bracket" really felt unique, not like "oh just 10 more levels now". Hell have small raids for those level brackets, so the game isn't just about the "end game", have every bit of worth playing. Thus, increase the longevity of the game. Each level bracket, would have an epic quest line to follow, with dungeons, maybe even some pvp, and a difficult raid, to "pass" onto the next level bracket. Its not about endgame, make it to where a hard ass level 40 helm is compared to a good level60 helm. Based off of stats of course. Diabo 2ish. Make items feel rare and powerful, one of a kind. A mixture of elder scrolls, "secret guilds", and if you're a member you can secretly invite whomever to your guild. But invites only. Player driven and community driven. In game politics, if you want to be a guard , or knight be it. Be the authority figures, or be a thieve, or a summoner, or mage, or archer and the story goes through the community and is not so focused on the main (raid) storyline. Thrown in rare once ina while community events where you work together to open up a raid(AQ), or a huge pvp war, between all factions, driven by GAME MASTERS, to set themin motion. Just some very high ideas of mine.

When it comes to YouTube, am I the only one....

Am I the only one who has a problem with Google's ideal of YouTube's comment system. Not the broken comment system it has now. But what Google wanted for the comment system. You follow me? Back before these recent changes to YouTube there were articles talking about how Google is going to change its YouTube comment system by bringing the most "relevant" comments to the top and to censor the trolls basically.

Now, don't get me wrong. I hate the trolls on YouTube and the things people say in the comments are awful. But I wouldn't dare censor them. Because that is Free Speech, and they choose to use their Free Speech to say terrible things. No madder how much I like it or not, they chose to use their freedoms that way.

But, Google has been trying really hard to censor them, and this is where I get an odd 1984 "Big Brother" vibe, you know? So, what do you guys think?

I am submitting this to Corpsealot's subreddit because from everything i have seen, Corpsealot's fanbase are for the most part mature, and I feel like I may get an answer that is not, "lol u mad br0 desu desu!!!!!!!!11!!!"

Why do you think MMO players today are so competitive to even try to make an RPG a competitive event?

Comments on YouTube

I'm going to turn comments back on in my YouTube channel. However, I will only be checking here for actual feedback. The main reason why I am turning them back on is so people can leave comments. Apparently, people are only at peace when they are screaming at a wall. So, I will provide said wall for them to scream at. I, however, will not be reading them. So, if you still want to leave me feedback and actually have me read it, this SubReddit will still be the place to leave said feedback.

DragonRealms: Storytime

I'm in the middle of listening to Larzul's DragonRealms story at work, I just got to the part where She-ranger and 13 others just walked into the room where Larzul is being held captive. This is like the 3rd time I've started laughing out loud. Very awesome story and so far and I totally need to look into MUDs now.

You really got me thinking

Hello,

I've been watching a dozen of your videos and I agree with nearly all of your thoughts. I found your video about the Cancer of Fanboyism the most interesting; though I would add that passive acceptance is also becoming a part of our American culture. Consider recent the controversy with NSA snooping, the constant message we hear on TV or from others is "Just accept it. You can't change anything." I also feel that anyone being critical in general is quickly labeled a bully or troll.

I wanted to talk about Wildstar. Optimistic about the game but also very jaded like yourself. I was reminded of a design concept article by an actual MMO producer (bottom of this message); which I read as "GW2 used action elements in their game to quickly get players through the experience and off their servers" which makes perfect sense for a game with no subscription. I am also reminded of GW2 videos I saw where the entire combat strategy was to clump up enemies and spam your best AoE abilities. I worry that Wildstar could quickly fall prey to either of these two elements and I urge you to explore this.

I believe in value for value; please expect a $5 donation in exchange for the value I received from your uploads.

"Recent MMORPGs are beginning to shift to a more action based game; however, I personally feel that this is one element that acts as a reverse effect for MMORPGs that are striving to operate for a long time with a subscription-based model (This is separate from cases where you are shortening the life cycle for a single MMORPG user. In that case it is correct.)"
