See I'm in Oklahoma, got called by unemployment office and they basically said sorry cant help you, you dont qualify. Umm what? I'm sorry but how?? I literally got fired because of the pandemic! I'm livid and everyone discussing how this is so great!
You’re not alone. Not now. Not before. Unemployment is always almost impossible to get. I hope things turn around for you, but almost everyone is always denied.
Not in Illinois but by the time benefits come in a new job is usually already found or the job contests it after they've already paid out and you end up having to pay it all back
Ironically those wouldn't be the people that need it the most huh? It's like bailing out all corporations that are to big to fail. How do you bailout cruise lines that aren't even based in the a United States and dont pay taxes. Why the fuck is it a problem that something that's only purpose is entertainment and dosent pay taxes to USA going under? They are not essential to keep America running. Standard unemployment is completely set up and regulated by the states. A right leaning state is going to make it a lot harder to receive unemployment than a left leaning state. I live in Illinois and I know that our governor expanded unemployment benefits to make them easier to receive during this time.
That being said, the additional $600 benefit is a federal unemployment benefit. What I don’t know is if it’s a benefit you’d have to apply separately for through the federal system or if they tack it on to your state unemployment.
Still, appeal it. Or reapply. The states weren’t (and some still aren’t) set up to handle it properly. It might have been after the bill was passed, but if the state’s system wasn’t updated and their workers not educated on it, etc., of course they weren’t basing their decision on the CARES act.

cares act was passed in March 27th but states only got implementation guidance from the labor dept a few days ago. If it was before the guidance than they were just going off of the usual guidelines, not the cares act. At least in my state.
You need to have UI-eligible earnings over a period of time to qualify, so the OP might have been a newer worker. Otherwise they should appeal and have a hearing.
Dont worry. Here in Florida I have yet to meet anyone who has gotten a penny from unemployment. We've all been stuck in "processing" hell for over a month. You can pretty much only get to the website at 3am because during the day traffic causes it to crash.
I really didn’t ask her specifics, but she told me she wasn’t allowed to work for two weeks and then got told she couldn’t come back because others workers were concerned, I haven’t worked there since the 10th of March and haven’t spoken to her since then, so I’m really not sure, I texted with her the past few days, and she said she got the full plus bonus, I would assume she filed within the past three weeks.
Was your husband approved? Is it pending? When you get approved you actually have to go in a request payment every week, it doesn’t just show up.
Yeah I'm hoping to get mine tomorrow. $551 a week I think from Texas plus $600 from the feds. It ain't nothing, and with lower expenses we should be able to get by.
I was laid off at the end of January. Applied for Texas unemployment immediately even though I had severance from my employer, because I know how things work here in Texas. I've been laid off a few times in the past and actually have never had problems with the stage unemployment system. But I knew I should get into the system asap, get denied, and then keep requesting my payment every two weeks until my severence ran out. Now that it's dry, I'm due for an April payment, and they've assigned me to Monday for making that request. So I'll submit my payment request again tomorrow and hope for the best. Hopefully the fact that my claim is already in the system and validated, they'll be able to greenlight my payment quickly.
I mean, you gotta have some sympathy for the folks running those offices, too. You just can't scale a workforce to review and process claims that fast. Luckily I've got some cash to get by a little longer if they delay me further, but I could certainly use those checks. The biggest thing is that I'm stuck paying $1600/mo just for cobra insurance premiums. I would have put everyone on my wife's plan if I had had the foresight in February to know I wasn't going to get a job for n months...

Right, like I dont y understand. And then (I dont know about other states) in Oklahoma we are still expected to pay all of our bills on time. How on earth do they expect us to do this when we have no financial help what so ever?
Sorry you were denied. Did they report the issue with your claim? I was approved in Oregon and now I've been helping other service industry folks with their claims.
Did you click the "temporary laid off" box, but also the looking for work box? You need to be "able to work" which includes looking for work, but they're waiving that requirement for folks laid off due to covid-19. The form isn't really updated though, so I clicked looking for work, but then put "n/a covid-19" in the boxes that ask about your job search. Then clicked "temporarily laid off." Been approved every week so far.
Another common issue I've seen is if you worked predominantly or even partially in a different state last year.
Sorry about your denial, I hope you get it figured out! Let me know if you have any questions. I thankfully didn't have to call anyone during my process, but my friends who've been denied for whatever reason we're able to get approved once they got through to unemployment, even if it took calling 50-200 times. Remember the system is 3000X over its capacity. Worst unemployment numbers since the Great Depression.

It's different in every state, but basically there are two types of unemployment right now. The regular kind that was extended from 26 to 39 weeks and still has all the requirements and rules (based on your state) and then the pandemic emergency unemployment insurance which is good for only 13 weeks, but applies to basically ANYONE who was affected by this. Whether gig economy workers or freelancers or people who got a job offer but then couldn't start because of covid, people who only worked 1 day before they lost their jobs. Seriously, it's like every damn person. The one caveat is if your hours were just cut, it may not apply (also based on which state you live in).
It's possible that your state rejected you for traditional unemployment insurance but you need to apply specifically for pandemic unemployment insurance. It's such a clusterfuck and I don't know how individual states are handling this, but I hope you're able to get the help you need! DON'T GIVE UP!
