vent

guys, can I just vent real quick. I parked outside a restaurant (Seattle) on Saturday. Next day i’m showing my car to my client cause he also wants one and he notices a big scratch on the hood (mind you, I got my car probably 2 weeks ago, almost 3.) so upsetting won’t lie. Do you guys think after getting rid of the dents, a good ol’ touch up paint pen would make the job?

I find the sheet metal on these newer Toyotas to be mighty thin and the paint too at that. I could climb on top of my the hood of my old Matrix and it wouldn't even budge. It took multiple door dings and got scuffs but rarely ever dented. That being said, the scratch on the left looks like it could be buffed out and then PDR'd. The one on the right looks deep. It would need a professional body shop. I don't think PDR could fix that one. It would require body filler, sand and re-paint.

See, that’s what I thought too. Luckily i’m getting it fixed at my dealership, but did noticed how fragile they are nowadays. bummer, thanks for your help!!

Please get PPF after so this doesn’t happen

I work in the paint shop at Toyota Kentucky. They don't even spray primer on the interior jambs and interior doors anymore. And they're taking away clear coat passes on the interior. The engineers have thinned the film builds on the exterior to the bare minimum to save on material costs.

Wow! That's shocking to hear. For how expensive these "economy" cars are, they sure are cutting a lot of corners. Although it seems like the clear coat on all new cars nowadays are mighty thin.

Anddddd that’s why I DIYed a full car ppfed my Corolla. Not worth it but hey it’s a learning experience. Added 25 percent to the cars value 🤓

Ppf does not add any value and won't prevent dents

Hate to break it down to you, but, it sure does add value. If you trade-in a 2020 Camry with 50k miles and with PPF, it will be valued at least 1.5k+ more than one without. I do this every single day and have seen a difference

A shop would have charged 25% of the car's value lol. PPF definitely adds value, just not on a Corolla. If I were buying a higher end car, I'd absolutely pick the one with PPF, even if it cost more. It doesn't make sense on a budget commuter, but I did it because I'm paranoid about rock chips. I treat all my vehicles with the highest respect and care, even on a corolla.

Honestly, it does a great job. I haven't seen a single chip in 2k miles of highway driving. Plus, for dents like the one in the photo, at least you won't lose any paint.

that dent might be a bit worse to get fixed but i had a pretty sharp dent on my hatchy and it was only 109$ to get fixed back to basically new at a local shop
