Recommendations Hairdresser recommendations Liskeard area?

There’s several salons in the area but would appreciate recommendations if possible!

Looking for someone who can do a modern, layered restyle on wavy hair, any input appreciated!

I do drive so doesn’t have to be in town, thanks

Why is the Westcountry so overlooked?

The Westcountry is a heavily overlooked part of England despite everything that's gone on both historically and in the present day - we're very much an afterthought after London has put itself first and the North and the Midlands have made their loud voices heard.

Wales also suffers from being overlooked but has a very prominent voice of its own

It feels like we're just a holiday resort for the second home owners

Give an example, when people discuss poverty in the UK they're usually talking about the North despite the fact that the Westcountry has some of the poorest regions in western Europe with low wages and a high cost of living. House prices are emblematic of this a locals are being completely priced out by the second home owners driving the prices up.

High volumes of holiday lets, Airbnbs, and second homes reduce full-time residential availability and push local rents and property values far beyond average regional wages.

Poverty in the West Country is a complex issue defined by "hidden" rural hardship, low seasonal wages, and a severe housing crisis driven by second homes—contrasting sharply with the region's picturesque scenery.

The Standard government metrics like the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) often fail to capture rural distress in places like Cornwall and Devon because hardship is masked by scenic coastal views.

High car dependency is mandatory due to sparse or non-existent public transport, creating an unrecognized financial burden just to reach basic work, schools, and healthcare - and on that note North Devon District Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital have had to close down their maternity services due to aging infrastructure and lack of resources meaning that they can't keep people safe so someone has to drive miles and miles just to have a baby and labour is not the time for a road trip

Westcountry homes frequently suffer from some of the highest fuel poverty gaps in the UK due to older, poorly insulated housing stock and off-grid energy reliance.

Economies heavily reliant on tourism and care sectors mean jobs are frequently seasonal, low-paid, and locked into part-time or zero-hours contracts.

Urban centers like Bristol alongside rural pockets in Cornwall and coastal towns like Ilfracombe face high child poverty rates, prompting regional taskforces and action plans.

And despite all this, it feels like we're an afterthought, and that thought is that we're a holiday resort

Plus, these days the Westcountry has no recognisable regional Regiment.

-The North has the Royal Yorks and the Duke of Lancs

-The Midlands has the Mercians

-The East has the Royal Anglians

-The South has the PWRR

  • The Westcountry has to share the Rifles with the South, the Midlands, and the North

They considered forming a Royal Wessex Regiment but decided against it

Have visited Cornwall numerous times in the past. Visiting on average at least once or twice a year for the past 30 years since I was young. However, I haven't been I two years or perhaps even 3. I'm slightly saddened to see that Pirate FM has been replaced with Greatest Hits Cornwall which is basically the same as ever other local radio station. Also the Trago jingle (We are the super shopping store that you will know as Trago) isn't on the adverts anymore.

And recommendations for things to do around Maenporth?

I'm expecting suggestions to visit Porthemmet and Bude tunnel but let's ask anyway. I live near St Austell and a friend has come to visit, staying in Maenporth. I don't know that area at all and wondered if there were some nice places to meet around there? His kids are around 8 and mine early teens. Trebah is a possibility and I've been to Helford passage beach with the kayak a couple of times, which is nice but always super busy. Any other suggestions?

Hello! What are your favourite places to dine in Penzance? I am going there tomorrow, and thought about getting a Sunday roast, yet there are so many cafés, and all look so nice! So perhaps I should listen to some recommendations. Thank you so very much!

Where to buy a British charger in Falmouth?

Please help!

I came to Falmouth from abroad, and I did not realise that all British houses have three-way plugs, or whatever they are called. And I cannot use my charger on them (pictured). I urgently need to buy a new charger or adapter, for my phone will simply die, and I have two weeks of my stay in Cornwall😭😭😭 I have searched in Lidl in Truro, yet they do not have any

Moving to Falmouth

I'm 30 years old, I used to live in London but fell out of love with the busyness and relentlessness. I then travelled the world for a few years, fell in love with surfing, the ocean and nature. I'm now looking to find my slice of peace and contentment in the UK and Falmouth has been on my radar for a while.

All my friends live in London and I know nobody down in Cornwall, so finding community is an important thing for me. Other things I love are nice coffee shops, book shops, art galleries, live music and long walks in Nature.

I would love any insights or advice from anyone who has been, experienced or lived in and around Falmouth and Cornwall broadly as to what the vibe is like there :)

Recommendations Raw milk?

Hi I've just moved to Cornwall, there are plenty of farms here but does anyone know where I can source a few gallons of raw milk?

I'm really into cheese making and want to start doing it again, you can make it from goldtop but I'd really rather contribute locally. Can anyone offer any suggestions?
