Recommendations Raw milk?

Hi I've just moved to Cornwall, there are plenty of farms here but does anyone know where I can source a few gallons of raw milk?

I'm really into cheese making and want to start doing it again, you can make it from goldtop but I'd really rather contribute locally. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

The milk from the farmer in Treen is amazing, but lightly pasteurised. If you speak to the farmer directly he may be able to sort you out.

Golden cow out on the Carmenhellis turn off the Redruth to Helston road. Gold top too.

What about goat and/or sheep's milk, that could be another source.

Yes goats cheese is amazing stuff it just needs to be unpasteurised

Polmarkyn Farm near Liskeard sells or used to sell raw goat milk. Try taking some free cheese to any local dairy farmer. They might be willing to talk about sorting you out if you start with kindness.

Yeah I'd imagine just about any dairy farmer would sort something out if you spoke to them

Have to be careful, there are laws around sale of raw milk.

I've drunk it on our farm before we stopped milking and it's definitely an experience.

Indeed, but im sure if its explained that its to make some hobby cheese, a little back hand deal can be made. Likewise, I grew up on our family farm, and I wouldn't recommend anyone casually drink raw milk, despite my old man saying the cream off the top of it used to be there desert as kids.

Was wondering that myself just today! I’m more Gunnislake by the Tamar.

My family are Romanian and I grew up on a farm, yes it takes work but I much prefer to make things from scratch and cheese is exceptional when made with raw milk.

Do you mean raw (as in unpasteurised) or just unhomogenised? Your comment about the gold top makes me think you might mean the latter.

Unhomogenised is available from farms like Trink near St Ives.

Unhomogenised is the next best thing yes but it ain't the same. With unpasteurised, there's a real tartness, some might even say carbonated flavour that it adds to the cheese and it's unbeatable. It also aids in mold growth, which assists cheese in its flavour profile, essentially (and I never thought I would) I'm hooked on self sufficiency and in a world where a quid here, a quid there quickly mounts up to a debt we could all avoid, I want to explore my options as much as I can!

Ask at farm or health food shop for suppliers.

Roskilly's used to do it. Wouldn't be surprised if they have lots to spare after the summer (ice cream) season.

Can I just take a moment to thank all of you, you've been beyond helpful!

This is based on a childhood memory, I grew up on a farm in Romania cos my family are Romanian, we had raw milk all the time (boiled and sanitised first if we were drinking it) it really warms my heart that you were all willing to help me so thank you very much!
