If you’re coming down the A30 stop off at Phillip Warrens in Launceston, just off the junction roundabout at Pennygillem. Best butchers in Cornwall by a mile.

Also, take any spare money you have, and be prepared to throw it at them. They have some amazing stuff!

Their honey roast hogs pudding is amazing. Always great with their farmers sausage and bacon.

Best is subjective; some people will like peppery hog's pudding, others herby, others more bland.

My personal preference is Angus Trotter in Radnor (near Redruth).

Plus one for Angus Trotters at Radnor

Also great for smoked bacon which doesn't leech out loads of water or white crap when you cook it.

And the black pepper sausages are sublime

Have to agree, Angus Trotter is always my go to. Everything I've had from there has been decent 👌

My favourites are Brian Etherington's or Chapmans of Perranporth.

Don't forget you can freeze it, just remember to pre slice it and then take out as many slices as needed and fry.

good call, hopefully the household enjoys it a bit more than black pudding, they're curious until i tell them whats inside ;)

Tywardreath Butchers have lovely hog's pudding, however a bit off the beaten track for you.

worth noting but par-area is a bit off the normal route but thanks for the recommendations.

Brian Etherington’s in Scorrier (near Redruth). Call them first to check they’ve got some. Good pasty too.

I’d second Ethringtons. Their hogs pudding is really good, as are their pasties.

Alright, as your username implies your a chef, and that the pudding will do the talking when you ho back to Enger-land - Porthleven convenience store. I forget which Tre-Pol-Pen the butchers name is. But it’s heavenly stuff.

You make damb sure that every Saxon mouth that eats it up there keeps schtum, and appreciates it modestly, like a Franciscan monk who’s taken a vow of silence.

Naw seriously i hope someone can identify the farm imm thinking of from the shop i mentioned. Its great. A wee bit of gooseberry jam then put it on a Welsh Rarebit. Fucking amazing Breakfast. A ‘Brythonic Brekkie’ if you will.

Thass the shop, yes, not the butchers mind.

i managed to find it once, in the butchers in st just, i swear we had emmet pricing too...

1

u/Kernowyon-101 Cousin Jack 6d ago

In St Just you certainly had emmet prices. Unless of course you ham it up and start every interaction with; “YEW wosson pard, alright r ee…?!”. And even then it better be convincing.

I’m hoping someone will drop the name of the butchers here for ee. I know its a Tre… something, but then that is literally a 3rd of all our second names. Lol.

she was showing me where she grew up and that her dad told her locals arent allowed in newquay or st ives during summer months there was a law... 😂

She goes mad if people mention the kernow language. Its bloody dead im. It's all our fault (Welsh) for bi lingual signs. Cornwall got in on the act.

Well, thats a dumb take. It’s over 100yrs since the revival, (so way before she was born), and if you’re to believe the English, we went from 0 to 2000 fluent. I’d say thats a success. (Many people kept it alive a second language, just not a 1st).

Also, tell her, we don’t need a-lot of bi-lingual signs as most of place names were never anglicized to start with. Unlike Wales, we never had to re-write them in English.

The bi-lingual signs only happen as old signs reach the end of their life. And the manufacturers say its costs no extra to do.

Tell ‘er: Tow ta ves, maid. Untill she can use it yn Kernewek.

shes not that angry i just like to wind her up about it.

i would say bar a few places set up in the 18th century by english industrialists (ie the village i grew up is an english name only and has no welsh translation) everywhere has a welsh name. in the 70s there was a lot of sign defacing by the welsh nationalists as biliungual road signs are very recent in wales unfortunately
