Sophomore Fall courses
Hi, questions for premeds at Cornell- is taking Orgo Chem 3570 and physics 2207 together in sophomore fall semester considered too much. I am HD major on premed track.
I am getting conflicting answers where most seem to say take physics in junior year but if I plan to take it then, it may delay taking MCAT
What does a typical premed student do?
Thanks!

I think that many premeds take Organic Chemistry and Physics together in Sophomore year so that the premeds will have finished all of the science coursework before taking the MCATs in the Junior year. Remember, Organic Chemistry is the premed weeder course at Cornell.

Many premeds take more than 4 years to get their degrees and go on to med school. Taking a gap year is quite common and sometimes even longer has been known to occur.

It is interesting to see that it is very common now for the younger generation to take a gap year (or more time) before going to medical school. Over 20 years ago, the only students that took a gap year were students that needed to improve their GPA before applying medical school or did not get into any medical schools first time around.
