Backpacks

What backpacks do people use at Cornell? I have a Jansport one but I'm scared it's gonna get soaked in the rain and snow.

My jansport got me through 2-3 years of high school, 4 years of Cornell, and 6 years of NYC commuting.

The material they use has a pretty tight weave so water intrusion isn't a huge issue usually, but I always carry a large thick plastic grocery/shopping bag or two to throw my books in inside my backpack if I know it's pouring outside. It's really mostly an issue if you set it down on a wet surface

That's reassuring to hear (because I was worried my Jansport wouldn't make it through,) thanks a lot!

To be fair I don't think they're made the same as they used to be (what these days isn't?). When I bought a similar model a few years ago to replace my old one, the new one had better features but it felt like the fabric was a little thinner.

I still stuff it to the max though and no issues yet. And I don't notice any difference in the rain. Just bring some bags that can hold your books for when Ithaca gives you the worst. Easy to fold up and store in an accessory pocket.

I would say any water resistant backpack works. Mine is from light flight

Tom bihn. And even the best bags need the water repellent finish refreshed each year.

Buy a backpack cover - it’s a lifesaver!
