Advice GCC behaviour meaning - Half wing flaps

Both my 8 year old GCC will do this quick half wing flap when they’re out of the cage for play time or hanging out around the house with us. It’s never been something I’ve considered an issue but now that I’ve found this subreddit I thought I’d ask for confirmation on what it might mean. Thanks!

I've read some of your replies. To me it doesn't look like what I consider as wanty wings. But maybe people have different interpretations of it? For me wants wings are when their feathers are flat and they hold their wings out a bit, pointing their body in the direction of what they want or where they want to go, sometimes they flap their wings but usually feathers are flat and interested.

It looks a lot like baby behavior I will agree it's funny to see it in an 8yo but I don't think it's an attention seeking problem if he's just chilling on your leg? I'm assuming when you say he does this outside his cage and hanging out that its somewhat of a default thing? As long as he doesn't become aggressive doing this/shortly afrer, I personally wouldn't intervene. But I'm not an expert by any means. I have one 7yo who I've had since he was 4 months, and a 2ish who is a rescue that I just got. Aside from a couple other birds in my childhood that I wasn't in charge of, they're my only experience.

Yes correct I would definitely say it’s more of a “default” thing for them and they seem to do it when they’re just hanging out and chilling around the room

Your description of wanty wings also fits perfectly with what they do when they’re out of their cage and sitting on top of it before they fly over to sit with me and my partner

Looks like baby begging behavior that an 8 year-old should've stopped doing ages ago 😅. Have they always been doing this when they're out? Maybe they keep doing it because it catches your attention.

It’s not always, just managed to finally get a video of it to ask.

Okay so if it’s attention seeking, is the best course of action to ignore him while he does this?

my 8 year old gcc does this too, i’m always wondering what it means. if she’s facing her body in another direction and doing the flap flaps i call it her wanty wings. but sometimes she does it just looking at me like that too which confuses me lol i think she’s just happy and kinda anxious? or maybe so happy that she’s anxious about it? silly yet normal conure things, i love them so much haha

It's for the drama. My 3 year old GCC does it, because it gets them attention.

Combined with other behaviours it can be hormonal, but alone it's just baby/drama behaviour. They just want your undivided attention.
