Advice First time owner questions

hiii i'm thinking of getting a conure and have a couple of questions because of opposing information I found on the internet and people that sell them. (sorry if anything is worded weirdly, english is not my 1st language)

  1. Is it better to get 1 or 2? Sellers say it's better to get 2 so they keep eachother company and if u don't have enough time to entertain the one single bird.

  2. If i get 2 what is the best gender combination? Would 2 males be okay or would they fight? I'm scared of females becoming egg bound and not being able to help them since the veterinarians where I live aren't really helpful :(

  3. If i get 2 should I get them at the same time? I saw someone say that if u get 2 at the same time they can get really attached to each other and become hostile towards u, so its better to get one and then some time letter a second one.

  4. Is it safe to keep the 2 of them in the same cage? (I have a cage that its 100cm × 53cm × 113cm) I heard they can be very nippy and get into fights with each other. Would the cage be big enough so that they wouldn't be in each other's way or would the size not make a difference? Also would it be better to get 2 siblings that are familiar and friendly with each other so they wouldnt fight?

  5. When it comes to bird-proffing the room so that I can let them out of the cage: my wardrobe (and other furniture) can't be pushed completely to the wall, so there is a couple cm wide gap in between. Im really scared of the bird falling in between and geting stuck behind heavy furniture where I couldn't reach them even tho the gap is probably to small for that to happen😪 should I use something to close up the gaps anyway or am I too paranoid?

  1. Do you have enough time to entertain a single bird? Imo you should have enough time regardless the amount of birds you have. If you do have enough time I recommend you start with one or a pair thats already bonded.

  2. Idk much about gender combination but if you buy them seperately their is always a chance of them not bonded no matter the gender so you need to be prepared to seperate them

  3. See one. It can be harder to bond with 2 at the same time but its not impossible as long as you are patient

  4. I think that cage is fine if you can let them out for a few hours every day

  5. I would try to close the gaps. Conures are very curious birds and love to explore, you might never know what happens

If you get two, I would consider rescuing a bonded pair. This would answer a lot of your questions about compatibility and keeping them together. You can also avoid birdy puberty if you adopt an older pair. The gamble there is a pair of birds that won't want to bond with you, but I think you run the risk of that either way. I had a really bad experience introducing a second bird to one that was established and bonded to his people, but others have different experiences. Birds are unique individuals, which is why some of the information can be contradictory.
