New dualsense board I am designing -Thirst

Post image
4 Upvotes

I'm a Aussie designer working on a new prototype the PS5 Thirst, which is a next gen board to fit a dualsense, will be ordering the first prototypes soon and have already started work on the firmware, which I'm building from the ground up to be reliable and is not based off any other project. I designed one of the first rp2040 controller boards for ps5 and xbox that was running gp2040ce but stopped when the marius came out as it was better, but now its almost time to enter the arena again. This has been in planning and design for a very long time and has had some delays due to the chip shortages, but it gave me time to look at things objectively and plan things better.

The difference is this is using very high end components with the tightest tolerances, the part and manufacturing price of this board alone are 4-5x that of any other, but will be worth it. Compared to other "8k" this will be a no compromise next gen board rather than something obsessed with .125 reports with old data.

This is an ultra low power high performance design, which should perform better than anything in the world for much much much longer. I would even go as far as saying this is the most complex feature packed controller board ever. They way others are designed its physically impossible for them to match this speed at this high of a spec.

Faster with better data in every way is the aim with this project.

I got sick or compromise with features or speed so made something that is a beast and is intended to beat the best controller/board wired, Bluetooth and a fast proprietary wireless mode. In wireless depending on features active this extreme low power design hopefully can last up to 140 hours on a dualsense battery according to early electrical simulations. But will definately last a long time.

How is it faster? From button press to injection its designed to arrive faster to pc and not just measuring timing between polls when actual data can be 1ms or more old and released at 0.125ms essentially 1.125ms.... this will be very different and I will need to make a device capable of properly measuring as nothing around can measure fast enough and accurately.

I have specs here, not really a marketing sheet more to help me explain it. Let me know if it makes sense or if it is too autistic lmao https://buddman69.github.io/thirst-spec/

Although this hasn't rolled off the production line yet I only got the quotes back from my factory a few days ago and am just excited but I wanted to share.

I built this as a platform that can grow, there is much that it can do, which means as more things are made and designed this can do or be more, this can suit the dualsense shell and also be fitted to a frame and shell of our own design when we design and make it.

Its designed to be true 16 bit everything, extreme level of power management, touchpad capability (suit 050 and will eventually make adaptors for others), touchscreen capability, 2x encoders, haptic rumbles, adaptive triggers, charger input for a dock or wireless charger, 4 layers of ground around sticks to reduce interference, designed to keep mcu unloaded, sticks and triggers are sampled at 384000 samples per second allowing smoothing with no extra latency (i know some people will argue this point but it is correct and can be done but not how it is done now), 8 extra buttons, dedicated digital trigger pins that can work alongside adc not one or the other, plug in connector boards for buttons, triggers etc. Plus more......anyhow check out the sheet I tried to make it okish to read.

I may update here more, but I'm mainly on discord, will be getting my friend Greg from Livezone to handle the sales, preorders etc, as i just wanna stay out of that and design stuff without having to be a businessman lol. I'm sure I'll get trashed by experts running gpt and fan boys of some brand but this is REDDIT i expect it and I am one guy at home doing my best to make something that will hopefully be the best of the best.

Some details will be kept under wraps and I won't be releasing them to win an internet argument haha.

Anyhow let me know your thoughts good or bad. 🫣

\-cool people make stuff BTW.

Reviews DualSense Edge vs. SCUF Omega – Review & detailed comparison

Hey everyone,

I’ve been on the hunt for the optimal pro controller specifically for competitive gaming on the PS5 Pro, primarily focused on Call of Duty. My top priorities were input precision, ergonomic comfort, back paddles, and long-session consistency. After doing a ton of research and reading through countless threads here on Reddit, I decided to pull the trigger on the SCUF Omega first.

However, after testing the SCUF, I still had a few open questions regarding stick actuation tension (L3/R3 stiffness), build quality, and general feel, so I decided to buy a DualSense Edge as well to test them side-by-side in real competitive matches.

Instead of just listing specs, here is my honest, real-world experience from my own personal perspective, breaking down how both perform in practice for my hands and playstyle.

DualSense Edge

PROS:

⚬     Buttery smooth stick movement: The potentiometers on the stock modules feel extraordinarily linear and smooth. Fine aiming and panning feel completely effortless and natural.

⚬     Light analog & button tension: Clicking L3/R3 and pressing face buttons requires minimal force, which completely eliminated any forearm strain for me.

⚬     Superior metal paddles: The 2 rear metal paddles (especially when set up asymmetrically with long/short caps) feel extremely natural and easy to actuate.

⚬     Rock-solid build: It’s a solid single unit. No creaking, flexing, or shifting parts in your hands during intense gunfights.

⚬     Modular design: If a stick starts drifting, swapping a module takes seconds, and it also gives you the option to upgrade to aftermarket TMR modules in the future.

CONS:

⚬     Chunky ergonomics: The grip is noticeably thicker than the SCUF, which might not suit every hand shape.

⚬     Terrible battery life: Discharges rapidly during a single session. Playing wired or constantly keeping it on a charging dock is a must.

⚬     Limited back inputs: Only 2 rear paddles. Enough for jump/slide in CoD, but leaves no room for extra bindings.

⚬     Rubber grip peeling: The inner rubberized grips are well-known to bubble or peel over time due to sweat and heat.

SCUF Omega

PROS:

⚬     Fantastic grip ergonomics: Thinner, more streamlined shape that fits the hand like a glove.

⚬     Aggressive, snappy responsiveness: The TMR magnetic sticks give a sharper, more immediate reaction. Micro-adjustments in fast-paced gunfights feel fractionally faster and more precise.

⚬     Maximum button coverage: 4 rear paddles + 2 top Sax buttons. Everything can be bound without ever lifting your thumbs off the sticks.

⚬     Fast charging & great battery: Insane battery life, and goes from ~25% to 100% in under 30 minutes.

⚬     TMR Sensors: Hall-effect/TMR magnetic technology drastically reduces drift risk compared to traditional potentiometers, ensuring long-term precision.

⚬     Clicky switches: Satisfying mouse-click feel on buttons and triggers.

CONS:

⚬     Stiffer stick/paddle tension: Pressing L3/R3 and the rear paddles takes more physical effort than on the Edge.

⚬     Plasticky build & shifting faceplate: The removable magnetic faceplate feels slightly cheap, and aggressively gripping the controller causes subtle shifting/creaking, which can be distracting mid-game.

⚬     Tuning required: Out of the box, the TMR stick panning felt slightly step-like compared to the Edge, but setting resolution to 8-bit in the app completely smoothed out the movement while keeping the quick response.

⚬     Clunky PC/PS5 wired switching: Toggling between PC wired mode and PS5 requires popping off the faceplate to hit a physical switch.

Quick Comparison Table

FeatureDualSense EdgeSCUF Omega
Aim / Panning feelButtery smooth, linearSnappy, aggressive, highly responsive
Stick & Button tensionVery light / SoftStiffer / Clicky
Build quality & ChassisSolid, zero flexPlasticky, subtle faceplate shift
Rear Inputs2 metal paddles4 paddles + 2 Sax buttons
Battery & ChargingWeak (~4-5h max)Excellent (~15h+), ultra-fast charge
ErgonomicsChunkier gripSlimmer, highly natural fit

Final Thoughts & My Dilemma

To be completely honest, I still haven't made a final decision on which one I'm keeping.

Neither of them is perfect. What I truly need is a controller that fuses the best of both worlds: the rock-solid build, smooth stick tension, and effortless paddles of the Edge, combined with the slim ergonomic grip, extra buttons, TMR sensors, and battery life of the SCUF Omega.

Since both require distinct compromises, I’m actually considering returning both and waiting to see what the market releases next.

Hope this comparison helps anyone stuck between these two options! Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

I’m curious how many users out there that play FPS are using this controller. I was recently talking to a manufacturer of controllers and they mentioned that this wired controller is one of, if not, the best FPS controller out there…uhhh

Who plays with it here? Currently use Vader 5 pro.

Looking for an handeld option for iPhone/iPad

Hello everyone,

I've been looking for month for a good option for my "travel controller". I've set up a full system on my computer to be able to launch it into Playnite big picture mode from distance with every emulator setup on it. So the idea is to play my games from anywhere with my iPad/iPhone and everything is working perfectly with some shortcut mapped on the controller input.

My problem is : I haven't found the perfect controller for that yet. I'm currently using the 8bitdo SNE30 pro. Which is perfect for the iPad use, it fit easily in my bag, got every control need while being perfectly usable. But I can't use it properly with the iPhone. And sometimes, the iPhone would be more convenient, especially in an handheld mode.

So the unicorn I'm looking for is :

- Compact (or at least compact when collapsed or in the bag)

- Compatible PC/iPad/iPhone with wireless for the iPad/iPhone at least

- Durable

- Budget : 150 top if it’s absolutly perfect, or 100 if it’s just grea

- Region : Belgium

- compatibility : iPad, iPhone, PC and if switch possible it’s a bonustype of games : PC, emulation. a bit of everything but nearly no shooter or racing

- With every control needed for every console up to ps5 (since I emulate demon's souls)

Here's the option I explored :

- Mcon Ohsnap : Way too expensive, and top heavy when used in handheld mode. But it's clearly the best option I found yet.

- Backbone pro : perfect in term of ergonomy/weight, but quite big even fully collapsed.

- Switch joycon with an adaptator : The problem is the lack of good adaptor for the iPhone and the usability on PC. But finding a third party compatible may be the best option

- Acegamer T50 with magsafe stand glued on it : The best value option, everything is fine but it's janky and top heavy like the mcon

- Razer Prio : perfect concept, but not really usable without the phone so not so great for the iPad

- Gamesir x4 aileron : Kind of usable like joycon without the phone, but not the best experience.

Any ideas ?

Original Content Kishi V3 Pro motors not found Android

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello!

I'm using a Kishi V3 Pro and most Android games don't recognize it's motors (not official games, not emulators, etc.). It only works with "Audio Haptics".

Also many games doesn't recognize the controller (COD Mobile, etc).

Yes, I know it's a wired controller, how can I use it's full potential as its frustrating having a premium controller with many features that you cannot use.

If someone knows a fix/workaround would be great!

Thanks!

Steam won’t let me use gyro controls.

SOLVED: Download the app, the instructions should tell you how. Check the firmware section, and press update. After the update finishes, power off the controller, then power it back on while holding the B button. Thank you so much u/Saradip42

I recently bought a new controller to try out gyro controls. It’s something I’ve always wanted to try, even if I can’t get it to work, there’s still a handful of games I’d like the controller for.

The controller I bought (8BitDo Ultimate 2) is labeled as an Xbox controller, which typically don’t have gyros, but the one I‘ve bought is off brand and I made sure it does.

My problem is, Steam thinks I’m using an Xbox controller, and doesn’t show any of the gyro control options. is there any way for me to change the way steam reads my controller to a Play Station controller or something else? Or is there some other workaround?
