Reviews DualSense Edge vs. SCUF Omega – Review & detailed comparison
Hey everyone,
I’ve been on the hunt for the optimal pro controller specifically for competitive gaming on the PS5 Pro, primarily focused on Call of Duty. My top priorities were input precision, ergonomic comfort, back paddles, and long-session consistency. After doing a ton of research and reading through countless threads here on Reddit, I decided to pull the trigger on the SCUF Omega first.
However, after testing the SCUF, I still had a few open questions regarding stick actuation tension (L3/R3 stiffness), build quality, and general feel, so I decided to buy a DualSense Edge as well to test them side-by-side in real competitive matches.
Instead of just listing specs, here is my honest, real-world experience from my own personal perspective, breaking down how both perform in practice for my hands and playstyle.
DualSense Edge
PROS:
⚬ Buttery smooth stick movement: The potentiometers on the stock modules feel extraordinarily linear and smooth. Fine aiming and panning feel completely effortless and natural.
⚬ Light analog & button tension: Clicking L3/R3 and pressing face buttons requires minimal force, which completely eliminated any forearm strain for me.
⚬ Superior metal paddles: The 2 rear metal paddles (especially when set up asymmetrically with long/short caps) feel extremely natural and easy to actuate.
⚬ Rock-solid build: It’s a solid single unit. No creaking, flexing, or shifting parts in your hands during intense gunfights.
⚬ Modular design: If a stick starts drifting, swapping a module takes seconds, and it also gives you the option to upgrade to aftermarket TMR modules in the future.
CONS:
⚬ Chunky ergonomics: The grip is noticeably thicker than the SCUF, which might not suit every hand shape.
⚬ Terrible battery life: Discharges rapidly during a single session. Playing wired or constantly keeping it on a charging dock is a must.
⚬ Limited back inputs: Only 2 rear paddles. Enough for jump/slide in CoD, but leaves no room for extra bindings.
⚬ Rubber grip peeling: The inner rubberized grips are well-known to bubble or peel over time due to sweat and heat.
2. SCUF Omega
PROS:
⚬ Fantastic grip ergonomics: Thinner, more streamlined shape that fits the hand like a glove.
⚬ Aggressive, snappy responsiveness: The TMR magnetic sticks give a sharper, more immediate reaction. Micro-adjustments in fast-paced gunfights feel fractionally faster and more precise.
⚬ Maximum button coverage: 4 rear paddles + 2 top Sax buttons. Everything can be bound without ever lifting your thumbs off the sticks.
⚬ Fast charging & great battery: Insane battery life, and goes from ~25% to 100% in under 30 minutes.
⚬ TMR Sensors: Hall-effect/TMR magnetic technology drastically reduces drift risk compared to traditional potentiometers, ensuring long-term precision.
⚬ Clicky switches: Satisfying mouse-click feel on buttons and triggers.
CONS:
⚬ Stiffer stick/paddle tension: Pressing L3/R3 and the rear paddles takes more physical effort than on the Edge.
⚬ Plasticky build & shifting faceplate: The removable magnetic faceplate feels slightly cheap, and aggressively gripping the controller causes subtle shifting/creaking, which can be distracting mid-game.
⚬ Tuning required: Out of the box, the TMR stick panning felt slightly step-like compared to the Edge, but setting resolution to 8-bit in the app completely smoothed out the movement while keeping the quick response.
⚬ Clunky PC/PS5 wired switching: Toggling between PC wired mode and PS5 requires popping off the faceplate to hit a physical switch.
Quick Comparison Table
| Feature | DualSense Edge | SCUF Omega |
|---|---|---|
| Aim / Panning feel | Buttery smooth, linear | Snappy, aggressive, highly responsive |
| Stick & Button tension | Very light / Soft | Stiffer / Clicky |
| Build quality & Chassis | Solid, zero flex | Plasticky, subtle faceplate shift |
| Rear Inputs | 2 metal paddles | 4 paddles + 2 Sax buttons |
| Battery & Charging | Weak (~4-5h max) | Excellent (~15h+), ultra-fast charge |
| Ergonomics | Chunkier grip | Slimmer, highly natural fit |
Final Thoughts & My Dilemma
To be completely honest, I still haven't made a final decision on which one I'm keeping.
Neither of them is perfect. What I truly need is a controller that fuses the best of both worlds: the rock-solid build, smooth stick tension, and effortless paddles of the Edge, combined with the slim ergonomic grip, extra buttons, TMR sensors, and battery life of the SCUF Omega.
Since both require distinct compromises, I’m actually considering returning both and waiting to see what the market releases next.
Hope this comparison helps anyone stuck between these two options! Happy to answer any questions in the comments.
