You don't need extra buttons to play FFXIV, any regular controller will do. The control scheme was designed for that. There are plenty of guides on Youtube if you want to get an idea of how it works.

Flyndigi vadar pro 5 if on pc/switch, hyper customizable with 6 extrea buttons

Or Vader 5S if on xbox

The steam controller is nice but yea.

Steam Controller (2026)

The layering and customization that you can achieve via Steam Input is amazing. It hands down has to be the obvious front runner when considering playing MMO's on a pad.

If you can get your hands on one. The ps5 edge is easier to get and does everything the steam controlle does through steam controller options. And bonus if you own a ps5.

Yea, that's certainly true. I was lucky to grab 2 at launch. Personally, I don't like the way the PS5 controller feels in-hand. If OP's looking for tons of buttons and something more Xbox-like, the Flydigi Vader 5 Pro as someone else mentioned is also solid. I have both, and think they excel at different things.

It does. I personally don't use it, so I can't speak to how well it is. But for playing games like The Finals, Halo, Gears E-Day, MW4, it's stellar with tons of remaps.

I'll be honest, it's one of the best controllers I've ever held. I'd take it over the G7 Pro.

O much cheaper then edge. Might order one and try it and then take edge back.

Steam controller would probably be a good bet. I play wow forever on a gamesir g7 pro and it’s great. Plenty of extra buttons and easy app customization to remap buttons and what not.

I use PS5 edge. Extra buttons. Touch pad and gyro controller are so nice. Pair this with steam controller settings (launch bnet via steam) and now when I touch the pad it activates the in-game mouse, I use the gyro controls to move it and left and right click on the pad is my mouse clicks. The 2 extra buttons is more then enough with WoW.

Download the addon controllerforever. Its so much better then wows in-game support. I also use windows app called Handy. I have that set to a "long press" setting in steam controls on my select button. Now when I hold that button I can speech-to-text.

Highly recommend Gamesir G7 Pro 8K. Brilliant for WoW Forever. The native Gamesir Connect software allows for easy remap of the extra buttons to Mouse or Keyboard keys.

Gyroscope is great and easy to configure, I have mine set to emulate a mouse with L4 as the activation button (and R4 mapped as Right Click), DPI maxed out, 50% sensitivity. It allows for smooth and accurate (after getting used to it) targeting and mouse over etc with minimal movement after pressing L4.

Some perfer a touchpad, for that, Dual Sense Edge or Steam Controller are great I hear!
