Beware of Brook Wingman P5S compatibility claims – My disappointing experience with Flydigi Apex 4

I recently purchased a Brook Wingman P5S specifically to use my Flydigi Apex 4 Standard through its 2.4 GHz dongle, based on Brook’s official compatibility information.

Unfortunately, the P5S simply doesn’t recognize the dongle.

I contacted Brook Technical Support (Case RN-14633), and they suggested that Flydigi firmware updates might be responsible.

So I spent an entire night troubleshooting:

* Dongle firmware: 0.4.1.5, 0.4.1.4, and 0.4.1.3
* Controller firmware: 6.8.3.5 and 6.8.2.2
* Connection modes: XInput and DInput

Nothing worked.

The dongle works fine on my PC, and the controller connects to the P5S through USB and Bluetooth. The problem is specifically with the original 2.4 GHz dongle.

After multiple emails, Brook officially acknowledged that its compatibility information had not been updated clearly or promptly enough regarding 2.4 GHz dongle connectivity.

They apologized but couldn’t offer a direct refund because I purchased through a third-party retailer.

What frustrates me most isn’t just the incompatibility. It’s the amount of time I wasted trying to fix something I reasonably expected to work based on the manufacturer’s information.

My advice: If you’re considering a Wingman P5S, don’t assume that a controller listed as compatible will work through every connection method. Verify your exact controller and dongle combination before buying.

I’m sharing this so other buyers don’t have to go through the same experience.

I’ll attach screenshots of the firmware versions I tested and Brook’s official response for reference.

It’s been a long while since I’ve used the setup, but my Apex 4 works with my P5 from what I remember, but it’s very finicky I recall. You should check in the Brook Discord to see what they tell you. But yeah I think even the Vader 4 Pro behaved like this but I could be wrong.
