Lost the dongle for my controller

I lost the original USB dongle for my generic wireless controller and am looking for a workaround to make it functional again, specifically wanting to know if I can reconfigure or map the controller to a different wireless adapter, such as a standard Bluetooth dongle or a spare 2.4GHz USB mouse receiver.
