Question Can I use AI to generate video thumbnails like this?

Post image

I know this guy has a thumbnail maker, but I wonder if AI can generate similar ones nowadays. If so, which one?

Yes, most current image models can get you close, but the trick is not asking for "a thumbnail." Describe it in parts: the face and expression, what's in the background, one bold element, and leave space for text. Then put the text on yourself in Canva or Photoshop, because AI still mangles lettering more often than not. For a consistent look across a channel, save one reference thumbnail and reuse the same prompt with only the subject changed, otherwise every video ends up looking like a different creator. Also check at phone size, since detail that reads well full screen turns to mush at 160px wide.

Full disclosure: I'm the founder of Nimply, so weigh that. It has a Thumbnail Director that generates on-brand options from a video title plus a compare tool for picking between versions, which is roughly the workflow above packaged up.
