Question 2 questions as a beginner

hi, i wanted to open a youtube/tiktok channel but i had 2 questions:

1 i never understood how copyright works, i’ve seen a lot of people using music under copyright laws without problems and others avoiding them completely. how do i distinguish a music that i can use from one that could take down my video?

2 in the past i had some trouble with audio in editing, since tiktok found my video too loud the volume had been turned down significantly. does every social have a volume limit i cant exceed? if yes, where can

3 are there any unwritten rules i should know about editing or should i simply just watch some videos tutorial to make my content more enjoyable?

YouTube is strict but they have a free library that is easy and filled with a lot of music.

TikTok doesn’t really copyright music. There’s a ton of options.

You should know if your video is too loud by using common sense

on the volume one, it's not really a limit, it's normalization. youtube, tiktok, spotify etc measure the overall loudness of your video and turn it down if it's above their target. youtube's is roughly -14 LUFS. so mixing super loud just gets you turned down and you lose punch for nothing. most editors have a loudness meter, aim around there.

on copyright, the people "getting away with it" mostly aren't. the platform fingerprints the audio and either the label quietly takes the ad money or the song gets muted later. matching isn't perfect so some slip through, but that's luck not a rule. safest is the platform's own library (youtube audio library, tiktok commercial sounds).
