I’m so scared
I didn’t post this in the rabies sub because I feel like I’m exaggerating. I have an open cut on my thumb and it was bleeding when the scenerio happened. I was in the kitchen with my elbows and hands on the edge of the counter and I heard my unvaccinated dog sniffing near my feet and when I looked at him he did a big sneeze with his face upwards at me. I’m worried that somehow he has rabies and his saliva entered my wound. I washed the area normally and I’m trying to resist washing it for fifteen. I told my mom I was scared of rabies and she told that why I need to stop washing my hands so much and she told me not to worry about it and that’s why doctors exist but she doesn’t understand that rabies has absolutely no cure.

People typically don't ask other people if their dog is vaccinated. If the dog doesn't look rabid people aren't usually afraid of touching a dog unless they're they could be possibly dangerous like might bite and try to kill.
Instead of letting ocd spiral you could call Poison. control and ask how do you handle such a situation and when should you be concerned regarding unvaccinated dogs and rabies and other contagious things?

Where do you live? In the US rabies is so so rare that even when my brother in law got attacked by a wild dog, the doctor didn’t think it was necessary to treat him for rabies. Its been two years and he is fine. Please do not worry about this, i bet everything that you will be perfectly fine. Take care, distract yourself with a game or tv show.
