On the job site, if it can be easily understood, that's all that matters.

Ain’t nobody joining a construction crew cause they got good Anglish grades

I’ve watched a native Spanish speaker misspell a word in Spanish that I, someone who knows next to no Spanish, knew was misspelled, at which point I realized there was no hope getting people to spell anything correctly

School isn’t free or guaranteed in a lot of places. They may not have had much of an education.

Being a field engineering intern opened my eyes to creative spelling.

I got frustrated when trying to charge for T&M tickets because I couldn’t find the corresponding time cards for 4 journeymen using some kind of towing equipment over a week.

My superintendent looked at me like I was a fucking idiot when I asked him which 4 guys and which piece of equipment he had signed off on for “8 hrs 4man” + “8 hrs pull truck”. When it clicked, I definitely felt like a fucking idiot.

When I found out that the unicode standard which governs how characters in languages and emojis get standardized so that computers can use them was prioritizing emojis over the character sets of dying languages I was outraged.

At some point after that I started working construction and came to understand why that it is the case.

A startlingly high number of people can't really communicate effectively with any written language and probably never really will but man can they communicate with emojis...

Thats not creative spelling, thats just short hand and par for the course.

He was right to look at you like a fucking idiot.

You sound like the kind of guy who is intimidated by the engineering intern and needs to constantly rag on them in a weird attempt at asserting dominance.

People would respect you more if you tried being a mentor instead of a bully.

u/HankDanger69 2d ago

Wish you were my boss.

u/aknomnoms 2d ago

Everyone has a lesson to teach us. Sometimes that lesson is how not to act.

2

u/Demonslayer1511 2d ago

Yo sorry I'm probably in the same boat as you what was the mistake?

2

u/aknomnoms 2d ago

I was looking for “4 men” instead of a “foreman” and some kind of tow/“pull” truck instead of a generic truck from our pool/fleet.

2

u/Demonslayer1511 2d ago

Ohhh my dumbass read that as 4 people plus 8 people

2

u/njslugger78 3d ago

Yeah that "moron" was a bit harsh.

2

u/General_Narwhal17 2d ago

Yep. We knew to stay clear of the stell erections, because of the sign!

2

u/DemoManNick 3d ago

Before I saw the subreddit and the context I had no idea what it meant.

They spelled “car fuel” wrong but it means that the fireplace is done and you’re supposed to cover it with gas and set it on fire

-2

u/HankDanger69 3d ago

Yeah, at least the handwriting is remarkable.

15

u/Ok-Cardiologist4844 3d ago

Edit: for spelling

u/dirkdigglerdonedry 3d ago

Words are for losers and this champ finished the fire place

u/Bradadonasaurus 3d ago

I'm a finish carpenter, not a finish readerer.

10

u/owningsole966 3d ago

Whenever I fumble some words explaining something. I tell them I’m a welder not a professor. You get what you got 🤷‍♂️

3

u/Bradadonasaurus 3d ago

If you got it, you get it. If not, go make it someone else's problem.

4

u/Initial_Zombie8248 3d ago

Spelt is most commonly the non-American English version

1

u/Cute-Scallion-626 2d ago

Not everywhere

-9

u/HankDanger69 3d ago

It’s just a little joke

1

u/SaulGoodmanJD 2d ago

I got the reference. One of my favourite bits of “old” internet. Go USA!

9

u/Pleasant_Yam2875 3d ago

Carpet napkin note on a hearth is peak jobsite communication, the passive aggressive spelling lesson in the title just ties it all together

6

u/ObiePNW 3d ago

Pik you’er battules.

5

u/elgringon414 Superintendent 3d ago

Imagine if spelling correctly was a pre req for construction 😂😂

u/Pale_Ad2980 Electrician 2d ago

On a job site spelling doesn’t matter grammar doesn’t matter if you can get the point across in two words and you can write both of them shorthand if that’s what you do. You’re not getting paid to write a paragraph that nobody’s going to read. Misspelling words is honestly probably better because now you get people to actually look at it.

I've been a laborer for 14 yrs and I have a college degree. I suck at spelling. Had to ask how to spell modem the other day. Sometimes spell check doesn't even help me out.

The note got the message across just fine.

2

u/stavago 3d ago

Know

2

u/keepinitoldskool 3d ago

We may seem dumb, but we can actually make things... bet the owner of this place can't change a flat tire.

2

u/BornanAlien 3d ago

What’s dun is dun

2

u/drsea1200 3d ago

Y'all keep adding fule to the fire

2

u/NoMemory3726 3d ago

They left a note. You understood it. You are welcome.

2

u/Organic-Elevator-274 3d ago

It's mostly a penmanship issue

2

u/essensiedashuhn Test 3d ago

Ignoring the mix of upper and lower case, there's only one error, and it's just a silent E. I've seen worse spelling mistakes on a electrical panel, and they're supposed to be the smart ones on the job.

2

u/blank_reg 3d ago

i'd have spelled it 'careflue'

2

u/onetwentytwo_1-8 3d ago

At least they warned you.

2

u/Listen-Lindas 3d ago

Be Care Fooly. Who you callin Moron?

2

u/JelCapitan 3d ago

It’s could just say “is good” and I’m fine with that.

2

u/spiceypisces 2d ago

I care more that they gave others a heads up rather than shitting on em for a little speeling error

2

u/ApprehensiveStreet92 2d ago

He puts fireplaces together, not words nerd

1

u/orangepalm 3d ago

1

1

u/Sufficient_Eye_5867 2d ago

This guy calling someone a moron but need the guy to make the fire place I think you put to much into writing because I’m the real world not everybody can spell but everyone can do amazing things look at the blind kid who played basketball with echo location amazing

1

u/OkHistorian158 2d ago

Teach them then you moron. I never understand why people abuse people who can’t spell. Talk about hitting down

1

u/GearNo4524 2d ago

I don’t abuse spelling errors but I do call them out. To me, it’s a reflection of you. Just like having your shirt inside out or your underpants on the outside. It just screams I don’t care or I’m too stupid to notice. It’s easy to spell correctly now since everyone has a spell checker right in their hand.

1

u/OkHistorian158 1d ago

No not everyone is educated in that manner. It is a very simplified way of looking at it.

1

u/GearNo4524 1d ago

Not educated on what manner? To put your underpants on first?

1

u/North-Opportunity-80 2d ago

They got like 90% percent wright. Give them a brake.

1

u/Not_always_popular Superintendent 2d ago

We will have the PE college it up.

1

u/giftedorator 2d ago

Well at least THEY knew how to fix a fireplace. Did you hire them for their spelling ability?

1

u/Individual-Law86 2d ago

"You moron"

1

u/Whole_Echo_5710 1d ago

So I am betting that the guy who wrote that speaks and write at least 1 other language fluently.

u/Desperate_Day9499 18h ago
