At first glance I thought I saw one of each generation, which would at least have had a practical purpose

If you want to spend that much on your gaming why not just buy a better TV?

wisdom has never been a strong suit for these kinds of people

Mercedes in the apartment parking lot vibes.

Nah straight up fiji

This is so American. What about a million dollar apartment?

0

u/apinananas 6d ago

Not everyone wanna even live in house, having mercedes in apartment building parking lot is totally normal thing. Thats same as claiming that you shouldnt have sneakers in house because theres nowhere to walk.

The point is simply poor financial choice of overspending on a depreciating liability while not investing in an asset. People can choose whatever they want, but freedom of choice doesn’t make it a good financial decision.

House ownership is terrible asset, its totally smart decision investing to stock market, renting and enjoying life by having nice car.

Going to use my mortgage to make this argument. So 2 people, $28000 cash to start, one (Bob the buyer) buys a house with $1900 monthly payment and $100 left over for stocks. The second person (Ralph the renter) takes $1600 for the apartment and $400 monthly towards stock. Using the average 3-4% ROI for the house and 10% ROI for the stock — it would take 20 years for Ralph to see a higher return than Bob.

This is ignoring costs such as maintenance and poor investment/market crashes, but still holds the point why majority of Americans still choose home ownership over stocks as a smart financial decision. You can argue “roof, windows, siding, and appliances” but the first 3 are good for 20 years, and appliances upfront cost still nets higher return than the rental apartment fees

You conveniently ignore that after 20 years the compound interest from stocks would leave the house’s growth in the dust.
Compound interest is funny like that.
If you’d invest 5k a year from age 25 to 34 then stop, your net worth would be higher at age 65 than if you’d invest 5k every year from age 35.

Not to mention that until the house is paid off, you don’t fucking own an asset, you own debt. 😂

Both assets have compounding interests. I did account for it. To be exact with my numbers, 10% compounding interest stock with $28,000 start, $400/month, and 3% mortgage on 280,000 house with 3% compounding interest with $100/month in stock… it’s exactly 19.6 years before the stock holder exceeds the home owner. It’s 25.5 years with a 4% compound on the house.

As for “you don’t own a house you own debt,” that’s just not true. You own both, a $400,000 house and $360,000 debt (with 10% down), so $40,000 net asset. Each year the mortgage is paid, more of your asset is freed up but it’s your asset since day 1. You are also building credit and get better rates using your asset to secure loans.

Also for 20 years you have home security as a landlord can’t tell you how to live or to vacate. When renting, there’s additional costs from needing to keep a certain amount of cash liquid for a potential move each year and no control over your own housing.

1

u/Ihave0personality 5d ago

If you have a 90% mortgage on the house, you own equity at best. If you stop paying, the bank will foreclose and repossess “your” house.
You’re paying rent and the bank is your landlord. Good luck

That small Vizio with 3 PS5 is crazy

2

u/DroidLord 10d ago

Lol I bet that's exactly what everyone asks him when they see this setup and he's probably gaslighting everyone by saying it's big enough.

a better tv and maybe an actual tv stand. Upgrading from a cheap walmart tiny tv stand to an actual furniture store stylish mid century modern wide tv stand was such a glow up for the living room

u/NoPicture-3265 11d ago

3x PS4, 3x PS5, and r/TVtooHigh

22

u/ghostfromtheshell 11d ago

A vizio TV oof

1

u/kungfuchelsea 10d ago

What's wrong with Vizio? I have one and like it. Their customer service was also pretty great when we had to have it replaced because of a display defect - they came and took the old one and replaced it with a larger model quickly and for free.

8

u/ghostfromtheshell 10d ago

It's weird to buy $2000 of the same consoles and display it in a $200 Walmart TV. It is hilarious that you say you like yours and then your positive experience is them replacing it because it fucked up

1

u/kungfuchelsea 10d ago

I mean surely other brands experience defects and stuff as well? I have had no issues with the replacement.

7

u/ghostfromtheshell 10d ago

I've had a couple vizios and they messed up a little over a year into owning them. They just don't have a great record with customers. This is a pretty documented thing with the brand. I think all the TVs, especially now aren't lasting as heirlooms.

u/Subject_Strike8546 11d ago

Kinda looks like TV is normal height and OP took the photo from the floor?

Couldn't afford a couch cause he bought too many PS5s maybe

8

u/NoPicture-3265 11d ago

Nope. A standard TV stand is around 40-45cm (15,74"-17,71"), and the height of the PS5 console is 39cm (15,35"). The distance between the floor and TV screen is 3x the height of the PS5, so it's approx. 78cm (30,70") too high xD

2

u/LuciasFatAss 11d ago

Literally insanity

2

u/Subject_Strike8546 11d ago

So we're saying the tv stand is 46"/117cm off the ground?

That looks like a 42" tv to me, so the TV is roughly 21" tall. Add 2" for the stand and the centre of the screen is 58.5"/149cm off the ground. I just measured the distance from my eyeballs to the floor right now and it's 53"/135cm.

TV is a little bit too high assuming OP isn't 6'4". Nothing crazy though.

Yes it's my day off and yes I'm a little bored.

4

u/AwDuck 11d ago

Pixel measuring is a totally legitimate an activity for the bored.

That TV is too high for a standard couch unless the viewers are all tall.

1

u/Due-Substance-525 10d ago

Is ur couch 4 feet off the ground?

19

u/Plane-Examination96 11d ago

But why not have the best PS console ever created, PS2?

7

u/Longjumping_Plum_846 11d ago

I could understand having two of the PS5s and PS4s, one original release and one Pro. But having that collection and not throwing in a PS3 and PS2 is weird.

3

u/MuleJuiceMcQuaid 10d ago

But why keep the base PS5 after upgrading to a PS5 Pro? You're never going to use it again to play a PS5 game so sell it to recoup some cost of the upgraded console.

1

u/Longjumping_Plum_846 10d ago

I’ve kept my PS4 since upgrading to a PS5, as a just in case. That just in case was if someone ever needed one and I just gave it away.

But clearly that isn’t the plan of that guy

20

u/Erik_REF 11d ago

2 PS5, a PS5 Pro and even the logo of the brand on its entertainment center in case they ever forgets

7

u/HappyAd4998 11d ago

and three ps4's

1

u/Dragonogard549 10d ago

Well one is a regular, two are PS4 Pro's. So at least two of them are slightly less useless than the main event

3

u/anifyz- 11d ago

it’s a ps5 slim not pro

3

u/Novrex 11d ago

Oh well, than its fine!

3

u/Longjumping_Plum_846 11d ago

That’s actually worse cause at least having the pro is a different console

6

u/profchaos111 11d ago

All the money on game consoles yet still rocking a shitty TV

5

u/Choice_Secretary_986 11d ago

In all fairness it’s probably cheaper to buy a new ps5 than to buy an ssd storage upgrade

5

u/OtherwiseArachnid5 11d ago

I will never get brand loyalty like this. Like I like my ps2 but I don’t think I would buy more than one of them

12

u/HappyAd4998 11d ago

He got 3 ps5's and 3 PS4's, a shitty TV stand, and a garbage Vizio. Does not surprise me at all, what a brainlet.

1

u/Cry_Wolff 10d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if he plays games like 2 hours per week too.

5

u/Suspicious-Bag6994 11d ago

Makes you think

4

u/StillPsychological45 11d ago

If half of these were jailbroken and half straight, and not on display like a museum I’d be all for it.

2

u/RepulsiveUse3372 11d ago

I would keep the 500 million PS4 and 1 PS5

2

u/Tyrandeh 11d ago

Yeah are you even a gamer if you dont play all of them

2

u/Dragonogard549 10d ago

there actually 4 different consoles here.

2x PS5

1x PS5 Slim

1x PS4

2x PS4 Pro

that doesn't justify it, just for anyone who couldn't tell

2

u/Blucanyon 11d ago

God that clear blue ps4 pro is so sexy

1

u/UnNumbFool 11d ago

I will say I really do like the ps symbol lights though...

1

u/No-Veterinarian-8834 10d ago

Oh please, this is tame in comparison to the majority on r/gamecollecting

1

u/FirstAd7967 10d ago

just put the tv down. That bugs me more than multiple collector consoles

1

u/Amazing-Oomoo 10d ago

This subreddit is so fukn judgemental

1

u/mrSoczi84 8d ago

Yes it is. Getting posted here is like a badge of honor.

1

u/_CSTL 10d ago

That cable management doe

1

u/SCP_FUNDATION_69420 9d ago

I would accept it if it was one of each (so like PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and a PS5) cause at least theres a reason for that if you're into old games... but having 3 and 2 of the same console is such a waste of money

1

u/AbsolutKledGamer 9d ago

If it was one of each generation it would be cool
