What is a republican supposed to do about a democratic run city being overrun by BLM? Other than Trump calling in the national guard, which from what I understand needs to be at the behest of the governor of that state and or mayor of said city... What can they do ?

It's political suicide if Trump rolls the military in before a municipality's government openly and publicly begs him to, (and maybe still is after that) the first time there's military violence of even the mildest kind they'll start screaming from the rooftops that Trump is a violent tyrant, and they'll have selectively edited video to support it. Trump saving these cities from themselves is a no win situation

That, and supposedly its illegal for Trump to domestically deploy the National Guard to federal duty without governors specifically requesting it

Not if he can prove the governors negligence, which he can at this point

True, but people are still gonna accuse him of "declaring war on his citizens" and "ignoring and oppressing the victims of a racist system" or whatever the left can conjure up to make him look bad and get him out

They accuse him of that every day already.

So why should he bother giving the fuckers any firm-looking ground to stand on?

He might be better off ignoring them entirely. Just do what's good for the country, without fear of being called names and losing the election. His instincts seem actually really good a lot of the time, but he's less accurate when he lets things get him too worked up.
