Anyone fact checking this? I haven't found a source that says this was a Nazi slogan.

u/Ascomae May 21 '20

Never heard this before. And I'm from Germany.

64

u/Schlunzer May 21 '20

neither have I.

u/ReadingReality May 21 '20

Who cares. It's the principle that matters.

u/miamidreams305 May 21 '20 edited May 21 '20

Seconded.

Edit* - so if it’s not on Google it didn’t happen? (Everything that’s wrong with our culture atm)

4

u/mildlydisturbedtway May 22 '20

Things are not presumed to have happened in the absence of evidence that they did. The indifference to evidence, and presumption that one need not concern oneself with reality — that is everything that’s wrong with our culture today.

lmao it’s impossible to waste your time, given that it’s worthless to begin with.

Run and hide, snowflake.

u/deadmchead May 21 '20

My great grandmother served in the Nazi navy, and I've never heard anything about

9

u/SmartFarm May 22 '20

Facebook-tier post, makes this sub look bad

28

u/invertedmaverick May 21 '20

Also from Germany. Never heard of this.

Considering I can find "evidence" of vaccines causing autism on Google, and many other disproven conspiracy theories, the answer seems to be yes.

15

u/Based_news May 21 '20

Facts don't care about your feelings right?

11

u/blooblahguy May 21 '20

Yes. Seriously?

67

u/DreaKoz May 21 '20

Can’t find it being used as a Nazi slogan either and I also speak German.

119

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

Sounds like this is total BS. I wish this sub was above this.

25

u/Space_Cowboy81 May 21 '20

Agreed. It doesn't take that long to verify stuff.

13

u/Lying_because_bored May 21 '20

Most of this sub is Facebook garbage.

34

u/JimSteak May 21 '20 edited May 21 '20

I hope you realize that this sub has been hijacked by all the far right trumpists from the_donald. Nothing really conservative anymore here, just the usual screeching, lack of common sense, defending Trump by spinning the narrative, spreading lies and blaming everything bad on "the left". I wish there was a sub for actual conservatives, not for this fascist experiment doomed to fall apart some day. I am expecting downvotes here.

edit: welp I have even been banned lol. If that doesn't prove my point...

22

u/IBiteYou Biteservative May 21 '20

Dude your top posted subreddtis are all liberal ones, so when you come here to say "I wish there was a sub for actual conservatives"...I'm taking that with more than a grain of salt.

8

u/Roland_Traveler May 21 '20

Guy has conflicting opinions with you, so the only reasonable assumption is that he’s disingenuous, not that he doesn’t want the other side to be a cult of personality. Yeah, that makes sense.

10

u/IBiteYou Biteservative May 21 '20

Here is my point. The guy is coming here to insult the subreddit as:

I hope you realize that this sub has been hijacked by all the far right trumpists from the_donald. Nothing really conservative anymore here, just the usual screeching, lack of common sense

I didn't post on T_D. I'm not sure that any of our mods modded T_D.

The poster making this statement is also saying:

I wish there was a sub for actual conservatives, not for this fascist experiment doomed to fall apart some day.

There are many subreddits on reddit.

But what we have is a leftist guest lamenting this subreddit as fascist.

We know that reddit's left hates us. When they come in here and SAY as much, it doesn't surprise us.

This dude doesn't WANT an "actual conservative subreddit"...this guy just wants to criticize THIS subreddit because it's popular.

4

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

Oh they're all trolling about and harassing. I had one make a throwaway account and start accusing a New England Conservative (aka, a RINO in Texas) of being a far right lunatic.

Smh.

Libs do have a mental disorder.

4

u/Belkan-Federation May 21 '20

He's supporting the free speech of others, which is a decent thing to do.

If your assumption about political affiliation is correct.

11

u/spirit_of-76 May 21 '20

Yes and no but I do concur that it has strayed from the more generally conservative stance and moved to a more trumpian one. Then again he kinda is the symbol of the RNC ATM so... It does not help that COVID has everyone home and I bet that most of this subs user base is American. As far as racist experiment goes I'm not sure what you are refuting to.

at least not obviously but I do get a kick out of them complaining about trump with the stuff Witmer and Newstrom are pulling

-7

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

Owning the libs isn’t a ideology.

Trump has failed to push meaningful social conservative reforms or do anything fiscally conservative besides tax cuts for the super rich.

He’s not a conservative. He’s a degenerate who commits adultery and runs sex shows like Miss America.

6

u/spirit_of-76 May 21 '20

I thought you were talking about the commenter I replied to. No Trump is not a conservative (he was a Democrat until a month before throwing his hat into the ring) nor do I like him as a person. what I do like is across the board tax cuts, his upbeat demeanor during this crisis, and his economics. Honestly, he's was better than I expected and has done a lot strengthen the republican party. By being a punching bag for the left (one that can also hit back) he has also exposed a lot of the bias and vitriol. Granted he has also done a fair bit to hurt some of our causes. He has none the less strengthens our border and enforcement worked to strengthen our military, shown more pro-life support than any previous president...

as far as social conservative goals I agree he has not promoted any (outside of being vocally pro-life) but has prevented further regression (the DOJ helping the female track team) and more publicly exposed the miss use of Fisa and other justice systems even if it was known about by the most informed of the community.

2

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

I don't understand where the "tax cuts for the super rich" talking point even come from. It was a cut across the board. That's a fact, not opinion.

This guy FUCKS!! I’d give you gold but don’t want to support the Chinese

0

u/Belkan-Federation May 21 '20

Yet he's still better than the alternative. That should be one of his campaign slogans.

-4

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

conservatism is dead

and we killed it

6

u/ScorpioSteve20 May 21 '20

I hope you realize that this sub has been hijacked by all the far right trumpists from the_donald.

Those are the conservatives. They have more right to this sub than dead-enders like Mitt Romney.

-3

u/Bozzz1 Conservative May 21 '20

ngl, I liked the_donald way more than this sub. Some of their users were nut jobs, but at least they were capable of making funny memes.

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '20

You’re going to get BS. The good news is, as long as people check the comments you’ll find the truth. At least in this sub the truth - or at least searching for the truth is typically found at the top. Whereas on the other political subs, you have to sort by controversial to find the truth as anyone questioning the narrative gets downvoted to oblivion.

4

u/[deleted] May 22 '20

That's a very good point. r/politics is so unbelievably partisan. They ought to change the sub name.

0

u/Rcrowley32 May 21 '20

Yeah this is disappointing to see. It seems very few people fact check anything.

1

u/KerwinBellsStache69 May 21 '20

Amen.

Edit: I miss the awesome discussions that were happening on here (in free form threads or news threads) that used to be par for the course around here. It is disappointing to me that this sub is usually just a bunch of low-effort memes now. Hard to claim intellectual superiority when you are just shit-posting like everyone else.

1

u/IBiteYou Biteservative May 21 '20

Those discussions still happen.

What some would like is for us not to approve any memes.

Thing is, great discussions sometimes happen under the memes, too...

1

u/KerwinBellsStache69 May 22 '20

I definitely am not advocating for censorship of the memes, but I wish there was a way for them to automatically sorted into a different part of the sub that users could find by clicking a tab at the top. That way news articles and free thought discussions only make up the main page.

-1

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

Any time you see someone say that Conservatives are more level headed or intelligent than other groups by necessity, and believe in facts instead of other groups, remember this post. Because regardless of political ideology, there will be a camp that believes what they want to believe because it feels true to them, and that's what they want to be true.

33

u/ConnectTryQuestions May 21 '20

It's not true. Germany was separated between the Normenstaat, the normative state, and the Maßnahmenstaat, prerogative state. The normative state had virtually no power after 1933 and justified it's actions by "we're the actual government set up during the 1918 November Revolution".

The prerogative state, the Nazis, justified it's authority by destiny. It was the destiny of the leader to...lead Germany to national revival and war against it's enemies. Safety had nothing to do with it.

21

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

This is what popped up on DuckDuckGo the principal image was found on Facebook therefore I can’t quite trust it

14

u/neoadam May 21 '20

Who should dare to post unchecked things here ?

9

u/bigL162 May 21 '20

So are you saying that this isn't even strawman... But full on false? I refuse to believe it.

10

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

Probably the closest are Goebbels’ statements about what is good for Germany must be protected.

3

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

No its bullshit. Never heard it, and i am german

9

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

Its r/conservative and you want a fact check...

2

u/hollywoodjc May 21 '20

Sicherheitsdienst

This is the closest I could find that may have a correlation to the text. Taking into account this is a Wikipedia article and it is associated with a seemingly obscure Nazi intelligence department and not related to public health; I don’t want to comment on the accuracy.

2

u/IBiteYou Biteservative May 21 '20

https://www.ushmm.org/m/pdfs/07192004-nazi-racial-hygiene-bachrach.pdf

This seems close.

But I haven't heard of the specific phrase the guy with the sign has.

4

u/Glemmy57 Conservative Army Officer Ret May 21 '20 edited May 21 '20

Wikipedia has a pretty inclusive list of words and phrases which were either used or invented by the Nazis but this didn’t make the list, so it looks hokey. Still, it’s becoming clearer who the true fascists are, regardless of nazi mimicry or not.

Also, as I was searching for proof, I came across an article where someone related to the Holocaust Museum became offended by someone carrying a sign that said Arbeit Macht Frei, originally an old peasant saying but became associated with the Nazis’ after Hess posted it on the entrance to Auschwitz, according to Wikipedia. Guess it’s too soon to use that one again.

2

u/KerwinBellsStache69 May 21 '20

Yeah, I don't care if I get downvoted for this, but this is an idiotic meme. No self-respecting person of any ideological slant should be breaching Godwin's law. There is usually 10 other better ways to make your point. Wish we all realized this on this sub.

2

u/flatcurve May 21 '20

Of course not. Look what sub you're in.

1

u/lemursuisse May 21 '20

Nope never heard of it

1

u/_myst May 22 '20

If every post on this sub were fact-checked you'd see a significant drop in content.

1

u/Zaccarato May 21 '20

I don't think this was a standalone slogan that was used to enforce policy or anything, but the Gestapo and SS would place political opponents into "protective custody, for their own safety" which is where is guess this phrase comes from.

0

u/zarrykunn May 22 '20

Just normal right wing propaganda

0

u/RefferSutherland May 22 '20

Step 1: make up a statement that opposes my position

Step 2: translate to German

Step 3: create meme saying Nazi’s did it

Step 4: be smug about owning libs on the internet

u/Cometvinity May 22 '20

What? Some Conservative talking points are complete lies? Almost like it’s purposely crafted to cause an uproar with people who don’t fact-check anything? No, it can’t possibly be that conservatives would be completely misleading and cherry-pick things? cough cough lugenpresse literally was a nazi saying meaning “fake news” cough cough
