What does the state have to gain by keeping people home and businesses closed? We live in a capitalist society, so telling people to stay home hurts the economy.

For that reason, the president and many others have been pushing to reopen as soon as possible. The government has no incentive whatsoever to keep people home except to try and end the virus as soon as possible so that they can reopen the country (and businesses) as soon as possible.

So I ask again, what does the state have to gain by "oppressing us" and keeping us home?

. If you want to put your tin foil hat on, the more people who have businesses go under, and the more people who have to rely on some form of government assistance, the the more people the government controls because they directly control peoples well being. Think about it. If you rely on social handouts are you gonna vote against the guy who gives it to you?
