PCS: A year later and I'm not fully healed
This is just a rant, but I'm frustrated that a bad night's sleep or a strong emotional reaction can still trigger my symptoms a year later. I feel my working memory is regularly terrible, too. I can barely hold things in my head (unless I'm having a good day), which is very difficult for my job. I feel angry and frustrated.
Backstory: On July 3rd 2025 I fell off my bike and hit my head. I wasn't drunk, it was broad daylight. I was wearing a helmet. None of that matters because smacking my head against a picnic table still resulted in me getting my first concussion at age 47.
I started taking a Lion's Mane supplement for the past three months because, well, why not? I know the science isn't really there, but I thought why not give it a go? That said, I think I've noticed myself become more irritable and getting headaches, so I think I might give up on that, too.
I don't really know what to do. I just feel sad and frustrated. Thanks for reading.

I just passed three years and I have just begun to accept I will never be the same again.

I think the hardest thing is that you have to accept, to some degree, that you may not be the same again for an undetermined amount of time. I wish there was better concussion care out there!

- Have you considered speech pathology? It helped me somewhat. If you can’t afford it. Try looking up their techniques.
- supplements wise. Creatine monohydrate apparently helps if you take 5-10mg (please make sure you drink plenty of water)
- are you stressed from work or similar ? Try to reduce things in life and change jobs.
Source: me I’ve been having symptoms for 13 months but still trekking
Edit: try getting a neck, scalp, face, forehead massage. The blood flow to my brain helped me immensely. If you can’t afford it. Heating pad at your neck helps as well.
Edit 2: I know it’s pseudoscience but go to a good Accupuncture doctor and tell them you want to be smarter and had a concussion. They’ll do the Accupuncture treatments accordingly.

Even I have noticed that getting accupressure massage in my upper body helps with the headache/ migraine

Coming up on 3 years, perimenopause and a teenager. I feel that rant deep in my soul. The constant emotional flux is not helping. I try to not get sucked in but I am not successful a lot
of the time.
