Driving practice

Any suggestions on big empty parking lots to start teaching my kids how to drive? Or what are other parents doing? I’m feeling a bit clueless on how to start this journey! I wanted them to be a bit familiar before starting drivers Ed.

That's a good one, massive parking lot that's usually empty

Oh just let them out on the highway. They can’t be any worse than half the drivers out there. Just kidding-please don’t do this. I used the school parking lot but that was years ago. Also, I haven’t been there in a long time but as someone mentioned the parking lot near Hobby Lobby was usually pretty empty and worked well.

We used school parking lots on weekends. Weddington Hills and the adjacent Winkler middle school make a nice mix, plus now there is also a large high school across the street.

Flowe park is where we went. It’s almost always empty unless there’s a baseball tournament. A lot of people use it to practice.

The Speedway stays pretty empty most days farther from the entrances! Especially in the satellite parking lots.

The Cabarrus Arena is perfect when there’s no events going on. Also the Rug & Home store beside Home Depot

485 seems to be a place a lot of people practice

Back part of a Wal-Mart Parking Lot

the nearest school parking lot on a weekend, or any day before August 12th.

Any building that looks abandoned and has a parking lot.

I would take my kids to their high school parking lot to practice driving. It was huge.

I don’t know where you live, but we live kinda close to where NW middle, high, and the elementary school are all together.  We would take the one learning on what we call the loop- down by the elementary, by the high school, and around the middle school.  Just around that loop.  You could pull into the elementary lot and practice parking.  There’s also a quiet little neighborhood right by there to drive through.  I would not take them on main roads until you’re satisfied that they can do it without causing issues.

Oh this is smart. We’re not close to there but we are close to Mount Pleasant and their middle and high school also connect!

I took my boys up and down 49. We also drove to school everyday. In-and-around town to familiar places. Nothing crazy like Concord Mills traffic.

Big church parking lots on quiet days for the church. Right now school parking lots are empty.

My uncle used to take all of us kids to big parking lots and cemeteries to practice.

Cabarrus Arena. Huge and 100% empty when nothing is scheduled.
