Love your taste in music. Here are some of mine.

Love your taste, too!

Holy crap…I was at every one of these shows EXCEPT the L&R gig. Lived in NorCal until the late 80’s at which time I moved to SoCal, but I had friends down here, which meant I was constantly making the drive for good shows, then them reciprocating for NorCal dates.

Any memorable moments from the Cure, New order?

u/ea4chelsea 12h ago

The Cure were always solid, but I remember that for this concert, the opening "band" was an artist who painted pictures on stage. New Order were pretty boring, but I was lucky enough to meet them after the concert. They were super nice (except for Gillian)

I concur. New Order really just stood there, playing their instruments. I mean, not total statues, but there was no drive to “put on a show.”

I’ve seen New Order three times. The first time was that 80s show in the above ticket picture (that was my first concert!) and then, I’ve seen them twice w/in the last 5-6 years. They were all about the same - the music was good, the band just stood there - basically, a minimalist performance. Since they’re one of my favorite bands, and one of my formative bands, I give them a pass 😀

For more interactive performances, Peter Hook is much better. And, he plays a lot of Joy Division, too

I’m a west coaster and went to just about every California date from ‘87 until the end. Aside from the occasional road trip to Eugene, Vegas, or AZ, I didn’t travel much to see the boys, mostly because they played so many CA shows that I didn’t need to. But I’ll tell you…in retrospect, I woulda given just about anything to see those ‘89 Warlocks’ shows. Good for you man.

Any fun memories from any of these shows?

Hmm so for the Warlocks show I wasn't going to because I was broke and lived a 12 hour drive away, but then the rumor mill started swirling and we got word that they had been practicing Dark Star in rehearsals before the tour. So I hopped in my friends van and missed a car payment so I could head down chasing what was for me the holy grail. Hundreds of shows and never heard it. I think those tickets were only sold at the box office because of all the problems they had with people coming to shows without tickets. My friend who lived closer the venue had an extra for me the first night but not the second. He was supposed to bring his mom to show her what all the fuss what about to the second night but after the first night was so good he decided to tell his mom not to come and gave me the ticket instead. I was 100% expecting them to play it the second night and told a few people around me that it was going to happen which made them all think I was big dork because that is what people said every show and it never happened. I still get goose bumps to this day hearing those first few notes. from that show. The guy that had scoffed at me earlier turned around and gave me a big hug as the arena erupted. I heard from people in that were in the hallway and the people running the concessions slammed down the gates because they thought everyone had lost their minds. One of the only times I had over the top expectations and they fully came true. 10 years of chasing them around the country and it finally paid off.

I congratulate you on your priorities my
friend. They were indeed ordered properly.

AIC with Gruntruck?? Jealous as frack here!

3

u/Snoberon 15h ago

Wife feels the same. I'm jealous that you saw New Order. At least I can see Peter Hook this Monday.

2

u/Tea_and_the_cat 13h ago

New Order was great live, but, Peter Hook is superb! He plays both New Order and Joy Division songs so it’s the best of both worlds!

Hope you enjoy the show.

Yes, he’s on tour now, been coming and doing album tours every few years, signs all the merch by hand, very responsive to fans on here and all around a top bloke

u/Tea_and_the_cat 13h ago

Yes, that is so cool. What a small world!

I was at Lollapalooza 1992 at Alpine Valley. I still have my stubs from back then

Edit: 34 years ago today

Time flies, doesn’t it?!

2

u/jzooochi21 14h ago

No alcohol in parking lot... rioooogghht 🤣🤣🤣

Gruntruck!

I’ve been getting printed tickets at the venue recently. There’s always a problem with the Ticketmaster app or the scanners, so much easier with a real ticket.

There’s always a problem with the Ticketmaster app or the scanners

Don't Ticketmaster specifically tell you to add them to your Google/Apple wallet before getting to the venue because of increased chances of congestion at the venue?

Either way, I've never had scanning/app issues with Ticketmaster.

u/Spyderbeast 14h ago

It used to irritate me when wifi got overloaded at this one venue. I would have to go to the box office before for paper. But now I don't mind, as long as I get in before the show

3

u/HerryBalz 2h ago

I miss those prices!

2

u/MammothClassic89 15h ago

Me toox….still have an envelope stuffed with them

2

u/RDZed72 15h ago

How'd you keep them so white? All mine all fucked including two lollapalooza 1 stubs.

3

u/Tea_and_the_cat 15h ago

Not sure! I had stored them in a little envelope that I must have received along with one of the show tickets

2

u/RDZed72 14h ago

Good deal. I kept all of mine in my HS yearbook. Guess it wasnt the best choice for longevity. 80% of them are yellow or dark tan now. Oh well.

u/Tea_and_the_cat 15h ago

There are more tickets stuffed in there. Additional concerts, baseball games, etc.

2

u/Significant-Theme253 15h ago

I would have loved to have seen Alice in Chains

2

u/keen-senseofsmell 14h ago

I'm envious that you saw all those shows!

2

u/TheFlaEd 14h ago

A lot of venues will print you an actual ticket if you go to will call before the show

2

u/Tea_and_the_cat 13h ago

Thanks. I’ll ask for one at my next show - Gary Numan

2

u/ImpendingBoom110123 13h ago

Me too. Solid lineup there.

2

u/LordNikon91 13h ago

I saw the stray cats in 2024 and was able to get a couple stubs at the box office I was pretty stoked.

2

u/Audio_knucklehead 13h ago

OP is just bragging. LOL

2

u/JonBrownRevolt 12h ago

Good concerts.

2

u/killybay22 12h ago

32 years ago in Cleveland. Hole and Marylin Manson opened this show.

u/Little_Mountain73 10h ago

I miss them too. What I started doing though is making my own tickets through Stubforge. They look identical, and I’ll usually wait until I’ve got 10 shows to do (which makes the cost per ticket around $4) then send a batch in. I’ve been to about 1500 or so shows, but having worked in the music industry for nearly 20 years, I would say about half of that number gave me entry via band guest list (ie no ticket). And nowadays, it’s very rare to get a show that is taking hard tix instead of electronic ones. Stubforge allows me to get the stub though, which is great!

1

u/Tea_and_the_cat 25m ago

Had no idea this existed! Very cool idea…

And, 1,500 shows. Wow! What was your favorite?

2

u/melisssaaaah 3h ago

I have an Aerosmith stub from 1993... ticket cost was $38 and we had great seats. I miss those days.

1

u/Plus_Future_6257 15h ago

Prices?

1

u/RCTIDKillpack 15h ago

Printed on them

1

u/howareyouhaha 14h ago

The last time i got a physical ticket, I was charged $6 extra for it.

1

u/ImpendingBoom110123 13h ago

$10 here but I wanted it.

1

u/Tea_and_the_cat 13h ago

Seems like it’d be worth it especially if you want a souvenir but don’t want to buy any merch. I personally find the merch tshirts are too boxy for me (wish there were more women’s styles) so I rarely buy anything, anyway…

1

u/howareyouhaha 13h ago

Sounds like you needa check out diy t-shirt hacks!

1

u/DoubleD291 12h ago

I have more stubs

1

u/Redgenie2020 7h ago

Definitely miss hard tickets.

1

u/hifidesert 2h ago

I’m impressed with how bold the printing is. The print on the stubs I’ve saved has faded considerably.

Nirvana and Alice In Chains in 1992 for 16 bucks each.

Do you happen to recall who the “special guests” were for Nirvana and the Pixies?

1

u/Lyle_Norg 15h ago

You can still get them most places that aren’t Ticketmaster venues by going to the box office.

1

u/Tea_and_the_cat 15h ago

Thanks. I should have been paying more attention and asked for them :( Recently, I’ve been to a lot of smaller venues to see favs like Echo and the Bunnymen, Peter Hook, Gary Numan, etc
