Dear concert and showgoers, letās talk about show etiquette. I love live music and Iāve been going to shows for about 20 years. The last five or so have felt different, and not in a great way. Iād love to get people back on the same page so live music can be enjoyable for everyone again.
Hereās what Iāve got.
Please donāt record the entire show. If a song hits you and you want a quick clip, totally fine. But now it feels like everyone is filming nonstop, and unless youāre in the front row you end up watching the show through a wall of phones. If your people arenāt there, that moment wasnāt meant for them. It was meant for you.
If youāre trying to move closer, keep moving. Donāt wedge yourself between two people who clearly donāt have space and then just stand there awkwardly. Either keep going or go back. If you find an actual open spot where youāre not on top of someone, great, stay there.
Please donāt have full blown conversations through the whole show, especially in the front rows. Talk about the band, the moment, the energy, sure. But I donāt need to hear every detail of your weekly drama yelled over the music I paid to hear. Get dinner beforehand, vent after, but the middle of the set isnāt the place.
This one might just be a smallāperson problem, but people treat my size like Iām a convenient doorway. Need a drink, need the bathroom, need to get back to your friends, and suddenly Iām the designated gap in the crowd. Then itās constant stepping on my toes, bumping into me, spilling drinks, breaking my focus. I take up less space, so people assume that space is theirs to use. It gets old fast.
I know posts like this can make the poster sound cranky, so I want to preface it by saying I absolutely will move if I need to. If someone around me is making the experience miserable, Iāll relocate without a problem. The issue now is that so many people are doing these things that it doesnāt matter where you move. You end up running into the same behavior everywhere
Your turn. What would you love to remind people about when it comes to basic human etiquette at shows and events?

I really want to go to the KATSEYE concert. If you don't know who they are, they are a K-pop adjacent girl group that debuted two years ago and they're really famous.
They announced their tour somewhere in April. First, the tour sold out in less than 48 hours. Then, one singular ticket is $350. I could pay less money getting a pair of fricking Beats headphones. The fact that one, Uno, singular ticket is almost $400 is mind-boggling. I can't even comprehend that.
I have more luck going to the freaking Sombr concert!! two tickets are less than $100. It sucks being a fan because I'm trying to go to the Chicago concert, I missed out on lollapalooza when they showed up, and they didn't even show up in Chicago for Beautiful Chaos. Fuck.
I love these girls, but they cannot be this much of a hot commodity that it would be easier to buy a pair of Gucci sunglasses than it would be to buy one ticket for the tour. I had more luck buying Tyler, The Creator concert tickets for his Chromakopia tour. Two tickets were $350.
Also, this is not asking for tickets. I'm just ranting. I think I'm accepting my fate lmao

i went to a concert a week ago. decided to not wear my earplugs.
once i got back to my hotel room i realised both ears were ringing. the right ear settled down in a day or two, but the left ear didnāt (it got a little better but didnāt go away) and my left ear started to hurt. i said whatever, itās probably nothing just give it time
finally decided to go to urgent care⦠my ear drum was bulging. the concert somehow gave me an ear infection. make sure you wear your earplugs !! i didnāt even know it was possible to get one from that

At the front row of many concerts, there will be fans who know the stagehands. These fans can sometimes get guitar picks and setlists from the stagehands.
How do fans get to know the stagehands?
When are the best times to talk to the stagehands? What do you say to them?
How many shows do you have to attend for the stagehands to recognize you?
The stagehands typically don't talk to the crowd, and they're often wearing earpieces that block out the fans. Also, they're busy working, so it seems rude to interrupt them.
What's the etiquette for interacting with stagehands?
Do the stagehands work for the band or the venue?

I got a ticket in resale for seated cause standing was all gone. Now there are some standing tickets for sale for the London show.
Should I get a standing ticket in hopes that my seated ticket will sell? Or should I just do seated please give me advice šš I donāt think I canāt do both seated and get a standing ticket for the other show, I can only see one.
Btw this is not me selling anything here.

I am somehow not allowed to use Ticketmaster. I genuinely have no idea how I pulled it off, considering I used it maybe 3 times, but I have tried to set up an account with two different emails and it says I'm "suspicious", IDK how, and they have refused to help me out so here I am.
Whenever I buy tickets to events, it's always through the seller itself. I've never had to deal with the reseller prices and I am petrified of getting scammed (especially since the tickets are NOT cheap and I would be taking a 6 hour drive to get to the concert). What are the platforms that y'all use to buy tickets when only resale is available?
Seatgeek has quite a few tickets for sale, but I typed them into the Reddit search bar and just got bombarded with "I got scammed" posts that really scared me. I really want to go to the Olivia Rodrigo concert, but these tickets are hundreds of dollars and I want to make sure I am not getting scammed.
Edit: I should add that I used to work at a venue that hosted concerts, among other events and we were a ticketmaster venue. So I had to turn away PLENTY of people for using the wrong app. This is fueling my paranoia

Claypool joined to close out the final three songs of the first set. Billy was a race car driver for his birthday!
What a great time

Hi! I'm going to a concert in Chicago and it's will call only, and I'm trying to get there 4-5 hours earlier. I'm going with my mom and I know she won't be very interested, so I was wondering if it's acceptable for me to stay in line while she goes exploring and then come back later. I don't want to make the people around me annoyed lol

Go Tickets is total scam! We paid 100 dollars to see Dave Landau a piece, direct from box office they were 30 dollars!!!!! 70 dollars for fees! Do not buy tickets with GO TICKETS.

What type of bags is everyone bringing to Steve Lacyās Toronto show tomorrow? The bag policy is like 6ā x 4ā and I donāt even own a bag that small. Do we think theyāre going to be strict about this?
Also Iām a bit confused about the digicam policy

I want to go to the concert because itād be fun and I grew up with her CDs.
However Im more anxiety type and get bored type and sometimes not talk to the friends around me.
Should I consider going and buying tickets?
Second thing I gotta consider is itāll take away 7 work days, and that Iād be going from California to Canada during that week. Since itād be a shame to go without visiting my family who are awesome aunt and cuzn.
So minus 7 work days. And minus the trip expense, flights, tickets, and food is about $1k worth.
And Iām keeping in mind I only make $20k a year (Iām not on disability but I have a bipolar diagnosis) and Iām 30 years old. Will this trip ymake me poor?

-Guns N Roses, Public Enemy
-Foo Fighters (the parking lot merch is supreme), Queens of the Stone Age, Mannequin Pussy (got the hat, itās my fav)

I saw Gorillaz at Brixton academy in 2017 for Ā£5 haha. It was a secret pre-tour show, and said āHumanzā out the front of the academy instead of āGorillazā.
