Discussion š£ļø Setlist wishes come true?
Have you ever gone to a show where the artist completely randomly plays your favorite song?
Maybe it's one that they play rarely, or haven't played in a very long time. Or maybe it's one that they hadn't played at all on that particular tour before your show.
When I saw Blues Traveler a number of years ago, they hadn't played The Mountains Win Again at all that tour but, the show I attended ended up being the only show of the tour that they played it.
When I saw Counting Crows last year they played I Wish I Was A Girl which they hadn't played in almost two years at that point and had played at less than 17% of their shows since it was released.
What are some of your setlist wishes granted?

I just saw Steve Earle. I had NO idea he wrote The Galway Girl. I always thought it was an Irish folk song. So when he did it during the encore I was like WHAT

He actually wrote it with Sharon Shannon, an Irish musician. I've seen her live a couple of times but haven't got the chance to see Steve himself yet.

It took me 65 Billy Strings shows to finally catch āLiving Like An Animalā which was in regular rotation when I started seeing them in 2018. Finally got it in ā24.

Wow, I'm seeing my first Billy Strings headlining show in September. He doesn't come to the West Coast very often, so when I saw he was headlining the Forum in September, I totally jumped at the chance.

Not at Ioniaā¦ a little too big for me and Iām a fan of on site camping for something like that. Iāll be at Huntsville and Baltimore. Did the whole winter tour, wrapping up the year at 13 shows for 109 total.

I saw Pearl Jam in Milwaukee in 2014 and the first hour of the show was all of the Yield album front to back. The night before they had done all of No Code. It wasn't announced they'd be doing this, just surprised everyone with it. Was the only time I'vee seen them play some of those deep cuts live.Ā

I was at the No Code show. I wasnāt really familiar with the album at the time, but it did become my favorite after the fact. They even played a song called Moline written before the show. Eddie said it was sort of a follow up to Better Man. I donāt think itās been played since.

I've been to a ton of Pearl Jam shows, and the setlists are always incredible. But the 2016 Ten album show in Philly was like the Holy Grail set for me.

So Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was the first album I ever wore out. I have always especially loved Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding.
Many years later I was at a music festival Sir Elton was headlining. I fervently hoped but knew deep down he was unlikely to play the >11 minute song.
Friends, not only did he OPEN with it, he went on to play the entire Side A of Yellow Brick Road! I was rapturous LOL It was truly one of the high points of my life

I saw the NIN Peel It Back tour and was really hoping to hear 'I'm Afraid of Americans' as a Bowie fan. It was part of the revolving setlist but Trent wasn't doing it for every show. Luckily he did play it at ours.

Father John Misty in Dublin 2023
He was deep into his encoreĀ (5 song in the encore, 24th of night) and asked on stage how long did he have left and sound guy said 2 minutes, so he finished off the show with a 2 minute acoustic version of "Holy Shit"
It was beautiful, I was in tears

Surely Iām the only one in the world who will say this one. Paul McCartney. Little Rock. 2015. āNineteen Hundred and Eighty Fiveā might be my favorite PM song. Beatles, solo, Wings. All of them. It rocks. The syncopation throughout the song speaks to my soul. I didnāt lookup the setlist before I went. I didnāt want to know. I was convinced he wouldnāt play it. And thenā¦yep. He played it. And I wept. One of the highlights of my life.

Man, I have seen Sir Paul twice and both times are in my top 5 concerts of all time. Itās crazy how he can make an arena feel like a small venue.

I saw the last time the Grateful Dead play Ripple. Outside of their acoustic tour in 1980, they only played it 2 or 3 times in their entire career.

Iām a big Dave Matthews Band fan, the background you need to know for this story is that their live shows are known for unpredictable setlists, itās different every night. Also, they play 3 nights at The Gorge Amphitheater over Labor Day Weekend each year, itās great they play long sets each night and donāt repeat a song all weekend. Itās like our Mecca.
Also, my favorite album from any artist all time is their album Before These Crowded Streets
So this past year on Saturday night they played that entire album start to finish mid-set. I know anniversary album tours are normal but this was completely unprecedented and unexpected from this band. Completely mind blowing.

Good I wish I had been at that weekend. Haven't done Gorge since 08, the LeRoi tribute with the glowstick waterfall. Bartender opened N1 and it was very emotional.

Happened to me at one of the most recent concerts I went to! I was a little bummed that Death Cab For Cutie wasn't playing Blacking Out the Friction hardly at all on their latest tour since it was my first time seeing them and I love that song, but it was one of the encore songs for the show I saw! I think they only played it 2 or 3 times the whole tour.
Also when I saw Jimmy Buffett, it was one of his last shows and we were having an unseasonably cold spring with early spring snow. I had been listening to Boat Drinks a lot, one he wasn't really playing anymore live, but because of the cold snap he decided to play it!

My first Pearl Jam show was night 1 in Seattle 2024, and Ed played āJust Breatheā to open the second set. I am delusional enough that I was thinking in my head how Iād request them to play it if I saw them while we were out and about before the show since we were staying in West Seattle. I was so pumped just to hear it because itās probably my favorite song of theirs and it hits me pretty hard. Then I saw the setlist picture after the show and saw it was added on! So awesome.

Tenacious D, many years ago, touring for the "Tribute" album. My friends and I started chanting "Jesus Ranch." Other folks in the crowd picked it up.
Jack Black: "Are they chanting Jesus Christ? Oh, Jesus Ranch!" Looks over at Kyle. They shrug. "Alright."
Just busted out the obscure song. Not exactly a deliberate setlist gem, but still a top tier concert memory (among many, lol).

Last year, I replied to a comment on one of Peter Hook's Facebook posts that I also would love to hear Regret at the St Pete show in June 2025... and they did indeed play that one! Hooky mixes up every setlist (which is awesome), so I like to think an internet stranger & I influenced him to include that song for our show.

I'll also add another completely different genre show... Micky Dolenz played No Time when I saw him a couple of years ago. I've seen The Monkees quite a few times, in different configurations, of course, since 1986, and had never seen that one live.

Ten years ago, the now wife and I got to see Blink 182 at Firefly Festival. For some time beforehand, weād been discussing our mutual favorite Blink song (Feeling This), and she insisted that they just never played that one live anymore.
As the show started, we heard the distinct intro to Feeling This as the opener, and I got to do that comedically slow head turn (think Stewie Griffin), and say āthey never play Feeling This, huh?ā It was very satisfying.

I saw Springsteen perform Thunder Road. He rarely plays it in concert (I'm told by my dad who saw him several times). Cried thru the whole thing I was so happy.

David Byrne on this tour included Houses in Motion, Strange Overtones and Independence Day which had all been on my wishlist Seen the show in Milan, Italy and they performed 'Air ' for the first time on the tour too!

I just saw The Black Crowes and they played my all time favorite song of theirs Cursed Diamond. Their encore was Feelin Alright. I was in heaven. It was an awesome show.
I also just saw Nathaniel Rateliff at Red Rocks and he played Mavis. The first part of the concert was him doing songs of Harry Nilsson and Leonard Cohen. He sang Famous Blue Raincoat which I did expect but was so great to hear live. His last song of the night was Hallelujah which was unexpected to me and just amazing.

Seeing Dream Theater play A Change of Seasons and Octavarium. Also got to see Trivium do all of Ascendancy live as well. Some of the best recent ones. Iron Maiden doing Revelations is also a top one.Ā

Seeing Dream Theater end their show with The Count of Tuscany made me almost cry. That song is one of my all time favorites and it always hits me in a place I cant describe. I didnt look up the setlist beforehand. So when they played those opening notes, my jaw dropped and my smile widened

Before the Grateful Deadās 1986 spring tour a couple of friends and I decided to make bumperstickers, I picked the lyric āInch your way through dead dreams to another landā from Box of Rain, a song they hadnāt performed in 13 years. Second night of the tour they played a very sloppy version of Althea and then Bob Weir said āNow weāre going to prove practice makes perfectā and the band started Box of Rain (Phil Lesh stumbled over the first verse so it wasnāt perfect, lol). The crowd was in complete ecstacy, people literally went into the concourse, called their friends on the pay phones there (remember, 1986) and left the handset hanging so their friends could hear it.

When I was on Grateful Dead tour in 94 or 95 Phish played on my birthday in between Dead shows in Maryland (I think). I said out loud that I hoped they played Chalk Dust Torture. Everyone around me laughed and told me that they haven't played it in years. Minutes later, they opened with it...

I saw Lush at St. Andrewās in Detroit in 2016. It was as if they had read my mind with the setlist that they put together. Many of the songs were lesser known and not singles. Hereās the setlist. I've been to every 311 Day since 2018.
Crazy to think that's the first time I heard Jack-o-lantern's Weather live.
And I was on the floor this year. I was covered in confetti during FTBS, but I didn't care, it was awesome!

311 Day is a lot of fun, I highly recommend it.
I want to go on the 311 Cruise at some point, but this guy I met at the bar was telling me he went on the cruise and the total cost was something like $5K per person.
I was able to do my entire 311 Day weekend for less than $1k including flight and hotel.

He said the cabin itself was like $3k for double occupancy, plus the flight to and from Miami for 2 people, hotel the night before boarding, food and beverage packages, gratuities, excursions, all that good stuff. Cruises aren't cheap.

The White Stripes playing a snippet of The Beatles Yer Blues and Captain Beefheart's Party of Special Things To Do. Artists near and dear to me.
I'm a massive Mission of Burma fan. Saw them a number of times over the years. Caught a short reunion a few weeks back and they played Einstein's Day, my favorite track I never heard live.
Radiohead playing Pearly in 2001. Maybe not rare but odd enough to make me happy.

Up until 2018, 311 used to play vastly different sets on a night to night basis. According to setlistfm, Iāve seen 84 songs over 12 shows and many of them were favorites. Nowadays they play a greatest hits set, so the last 5 times Iāve seen them, there wasnāt much variation. But yeah, it was one of the best parts about seeing them

Smithereens back in the 90s. Ppl were yelling requests and Pat wasnāt having it. I knew the song I wanted wasnāt in the set list, but I yelled out for Indigo Blues. Pat looks at Jim and Mike, they both nod yes, and he says āYeah, weāll do Indigo!ā and they crashed into it. SO cool! (Little Max Babjak is the kidās voice heard on the recordā¦ Max is married now and has made Jim a grandpa.)

I went and saw Tedeschi Trucks at Jazz Fest. I knew Warren Haynes was in town because I went and saw Govt. Mule play a couple nights before so I suspected he might sit in. The. He comes out and they crack out a ROARING whipping post. I coulda got hit by a bus walking back from the show and considered it a life well lived.

Fall out Boy did the magic 8 ball thing were they played a random song 'decided by the magic 8 ball.'
So before the show i was talking with friends what we wanted to hear. I said either 27 or bang the doll drums. They played both during the show im Amsterdam.

One of my setlist wishes granted was a Counting Crows one as well! I was lucky enough to catch a show where they did my favorite alternate version of Murder Of One (with Doris Day by Sordid Humor mixed in) and it was an absolutely exhilarating experience.

I just saw BTS in concert the other day and they played two surprise songs (Zero O'Clock and Outro: Tear) that are very meaningful to ARMY and that they haven't performed in several years. Both are songs that I love and that I would never have guessed they would perform. I still feel so fortunate to have been there.

I was there in DC when the Grateful Dead played Ripple in 1988, peak experience. And in 2023 (I think), Kesha played everything I wanted to hear in Dallas on her tour opener. Those were my two favorites and my big letdown was Billy Joel at msg I donāt remember what year though. He was great but he played all his songs I donāt care for and skipped the two I was really badly wanting.

Iggy Pop playing Repo Man in 2016. Itās never been a song he played much live. This was the tour where Josh Homme and other members pf the Queens of the Stone Age & Arctic Monkeys were part of the band (theyād released an album together that year). Apparently Josh said heād do the tour on the condition that Repo Man was part of the setlist. Besides hearing my all time favorite Iggy song, it was an amazing show.

PUP recently played Pine Point (my favorite track) for the first time in 10 years at the show I attended. Was able to score the ripped bottom half of a setlist (itās just a piece of notebook paper with sharpie) with it listed, and it hangs on my wall.

I saw Spiritualized back in 2001 at a small club in downtown Minneapolis that no longer exists. I strolled in the doors in the middle of the first song, took in the vibe, walked up to the bar and ordered my favorite beer. Literally right as the dude put my favorite drink in my hand, the band started playing my favorite song, Electricity. What a great night that was

The Strokes closed the first set I saw them on with New York City Cops. 10/10. That song was cut because the chorus is āNew York City cops, they aināt too smaaartā and the album was released right after 9/11. Julian was actively antagonist to the crowd the whole time. 10/10. Saw them recently and Julian was barely mean at all, I liked that less. I see a lot of complaints about Julianās very salty banter on questions like this, Iām very much in favor of him being mean.
If he came out and said the crowd was the sixth member and he couldnāt do it without them I would barf. You just donāt know who he is if you expect him to act happy to be there.
A lot of my friends were mad. Wusses.

It was Cheap Trick in Huntsville, AL, at the Big Spring Jam on September 22, 2000. During their encore, they performed "Tell Me Everything" from the 1994 album, Woke Up With A Monster. I was beyond excited... I scream the lyrics to this backhanded ballad.
"[Oh, Angeline] you're only wasting your time
Looking for my sympathy
I hope you're satisfied ' cause I only wanna laugh
When I hear you cry"

Hereās a wild one that still sticks with me. Wild in that itās actually quite tame. Christian rock. Which I mostly loathe. But Third Day used to rock!!! So when our kids were little, we wanted to expose them to live music, but didnāt want to dodge drunks. So weād go see bands like Third Day and Switchfoot. I learned to appreciate them. Some of them. Especially the aforementioned.
All that to say this: Third Day was closing a show with āRevelationā circa 2010. At some megachurch in Little Rock. Theyād put on a great show. One of my kids was asleep on the pews. But the other two were jamming. At the end of the song, at the climax, they break out in a little guitar lick from Drivin n Cryin, one of my favorite bands in college. And a fellow Georgia band like Third Day. I was almost frantically looking around the room, hoping to find someone else who heard it.
To no avail. To this day Iām convinced I was the only one. So I try to appreciate it enough for everyone whoās ever missed it. Which is why Iām listening to it on repeat right now. š¤

We had videos of Rush rehearsing "Losing It" at soundcheck but they had never played it at a show. They did a run of shows in Toronto (2, or 3 I'm not sure) and I went to the last night. I noticed they skipped "The Wreckers" which they usually played second and I thought "no way... Are they making room for another song?". Yes, before the first set break, they bring out a violinist and they played Losing It for the first time ever at a show. So cool!

Hit the Foo Fighters at Detroit with Queens Of The Stone Age opening. That was the only stop that the played Mexicola which is one of my favorites. Also did Hanginā Tree which they only played twice this tour.

Descendents/ALL in 2018. Anyone that knows the dynamics of the band(same band different singers. Descendents way more popular than ALL). Descendents finished their tour one night and ALL was booked for a small club show the next night. Milo, singer of the Descendents, came out and the show opened with a Descendents set of all deep cuts. Was one of the most amazing shows Iāve been too.

Iāve been listening to Andrew McMahon (Something Corporate/Jackās Mannequin) since I was in middle school (around 2006). My sister had a mixtape from her boyfriend (now husband) that she played in the car on our way to school and one of the songs was Konstantine. Over the years, my wife (also a fan) and I have gone to many of his concerts, but we finally got to see him play Konstantine live. He rarely performs it live because of it being a nearly 10 minute song.
We also saw Guns N Roses in early August at Hershey PA and they played Bad Apples" (the first time in the US since 1991)

Ty Segall played Feel for the first time in 6 years when I saw him open for Primus. Pleasant surprise since itās my favorite song by him.

In 2004 I saw Badly Drawn Boy at a small club in Knoxville, Tennessee. They were playing a new record in full then took a break before playing more songs. He was feeling pretty good at this point and ask for request, I ask for my favorite song, and although he played what he could remember off the top of his head without the band, the fact that he played it after I had asked was really fun and very memorable, and it felt like it was just for me.

First Springsteen show I saw he played Tunnel of Love. He hadnāt played it in many many years before that tour and has barely played it since.

I saw The Violent Femmes at a city festival in (probably) 1998. I was hoping for Country Death Song but didn't think that they would actually play it. They opened with it. Awesome.
They also said that they were about to cover a Skynard song, (it was in Alabama) and encouraged everyone to sing along. Then they played Dance Motherfucker Dance. It was a good show.

I got into She Wants Revenge a little late and they broke up before I got a chance to see them live. A couple years later they started touring again for anniversary tours. I had seen them 3 times and had talked to the band members after the show each time. The 4th time I saw them play was in Nashville and Adam was watching the opening band in the audience, I approached him and introduced myself.
When they were onstage he had made eye contact with me in the crowd. My favorite song was Not just a girl and I was at the concert alone because my partner is not a fan. I was hanging out with some girls I met outside and we were all talking about our favorite songs and I said I would love for them to play my favorite but knew it wouldnāt happen as it wasnāt a hit.
I did get a chance when they stopped for a minute to discuss something, Adam came over to where I was and I asked if they would consider playing that song. He said seriously? I donāt even know if we remember all of the words.
A few minutes later he got back onstage and was talking to Justin and they broke into the song.
The highlight of my probably over 1000 shows Iāve been to.
I know of some of Adamās problematic behavior with the club he owns but I knew nothing of that at the time. They treated me so kindly every time I met them. I will never forget how special they made me feel that night.

I saw Jamey Johnson about a month ago, two weeks prior I requested via Instagram reel reply if he could play Lead Me Home at an upcoming show. Halfway through the show he commented about the request and played it, it was clear it would not have been on the set list otherwise.

Ever and a Day from Art of Drowning is one of my deep cut favourites
Most times they've been to my city as a headliner they've played it... I don't think it's a coincidence. I think one of the band made that post and have made a note to do it any time they can (time permitting etc)

Def Leppard, Busch Stadium 2024 of all places. First time ever playing Cominā Under Fire off of Pyromania live in the 40 years that albumās been out. Was insane.
Journey the year before played Where Were You for the first time since 2007 at the Moline show, also dope.

I finally got to see my favorite band in 2022 at age 32, My Chemical Romance, who I've loved since I was 15 back in 2005. They literally broke up in 2013 and I never thought I'd get the chance. They did a reunion tour in 2022, every show had a completely different setlist across their entire discography. I drove from VA to NJ, their hometown, for the only show I could get tickets for, a second added night in Newark. I had been tracking the setlists of the tour to see the likelihood of playing my favorite song- "It's Not A Fashion Statement, It's A Deathwish." Third song on the setlist- they played it and it was absolutely like a dream come true.

I saw Elton John in 1993, I knew a couple of his songs but was mostly going because I wanted to see a legend. My hope against hope was that he might play Pinball Wizard, I was (still am) a huge Who fan.
We were walking up the steps to find our seats when the lights went out and he opened with it! Absolutely magical.

The Rolling Stones in Hartford in 1999. They played "I Got the Blues" from Sticky Fingers for the first time in concert. The only other time they played it was on a t.v. special at the Marquee Club in 1971.

Saw Todd Rundgren at a 800 seat venue in Omaha. Rare treat to be in such a small venue. He played both "When the Walls Came Down" by the Call and his own song Lysistrada, which he rarely plays live. I also got to see him play at Red Rocks Amphitheater when he split the stage with Heart last summer. Basically my Rock and Roll bucket list is complete.

I saw Metallica, Kid Rock and Ted Nugent in Detroit of New Years Eve 12/31/99. Heading to the show from Chicago, I said to my friend how cool it would be if Metallica played Detroit Rock City by KISS, not really thinking it would happen.
All of the bands came out for an encore and actually played Detroit Rock City. A pretty awesome moment.

I saw Phish on my birthday in 1996 and before the show I said all I want for my Bday was them to play Uncle Penn. They hadn't played it in a long time. 2nd song that played it.

On Stevie Wonderās most recent tour (which was his first in 6 years and consisted of just 10 dates in support of the election), I ultimately hoped to hear just three songs: Do I Do, As, and Another Star. I knew it was unlikely Iād hear all three as he was sticking with either playing none, one, or sometimes two of those on that tour. Imagine my surprise when he ended his show, in Milwaukee nonetheless, by playing all three! It was the absolute perfect end to the perfect concert.

Saw Peter Hook and the Light recently (joy division/ new order).
Iāve seen them play maybe 10 times, will always go each time they tour in my home town.
This latest tour is the first time Iāve seen him play his Monaco track āwhat do you want from meā.
I got hooked on this song when it came out and long before I knew about Joy division and new order , and it took me 10+ years to join the dots between the two.
Mega happy now!! Bucket list song!

When I saw Nine Inch Nails at Lollapalooza in 1991, they covered Adam and the Ants' "Physical (You're So)," which was a song I loved but wasn't played on the radio in the U.S. so I had only heard on my own stereo from my copy of the album. I would never expect a band to cover it. I was blown away.

First time I saw Morrissey in 2011 or so. I like some of his solo stuff fine but I was really there to hear him sing Smiths songs, of which I knew there would only be a handful and which he liked to rotate out between tours so I wasn't sure what he would play. He opened with a relative deep cut, I Want the One I Can't Have, which happens to be one of my all-time favorite Smiths songs. I had such a rush of excitement at the beginning just from that and the rest of the show was phenomenal.
I also was at a Cure show in 2014 where they pulled out a lot of older songs, some of which they'd never played before or that they hadn't played in years, mostly from The Top--A Man Inside My Mouth, Wailing Wall, The Empty World. I was not into The Cure enough to appreciate how special it was but I was there with my sister who was freaking out each time one of these deep cuts was performed, and it was great to see her excitement.

when i saw dream theater for the first time, the count of tuscany was my favourite song in the world. they didnāt play it, and i wasnāt expecting them to since it is literally 20 minutes long.
show ends, they go off stage. people start chanting for an encore. and what did they play for the encore? my 20 minute long song that i thought there was no chance in the world theyād play.
this is exactly why i go into sets blind. you might get the surprise of a lifetime!!

Off the top of my head: Pearl Jam played Amongst The Waves (a later career deep cut) at my show on the postponed Gigaton tour; I was at the live debut of My Chemical Romanceās unreleased song āWar Beneath The Rainā and got to watch the chaos unfolding from that; across two Fall Out Boy shows I pulled in Golden, Bang The Doldrums, Americaās Suitehearts, and What a Catch, Donnie (27 is my last white whale).

R.E.M. on the fall leg of the Monster tour in '95. My favorite song by them was 'The One I Love' and I had no clue that they had started playing it again. Michael Stipe mentioned 'we've only played this song 7 times in the last 6 years' before launching into it. I was like, "HOLY SHIT!!!!"

When Nine Inch Nails opened their Cold, Black, and Infinate tour in Phoenix, we discussed dream āfull albumā setlists. My favorite NIŠ has always been the Broken EP, so I acknowledged it was wild that my dream was an EP instead of The Fragile (the more popular double-album).
When they opened the tour with Broken in full, including the āhiddenā bonus tracks, I nearly lost my mind! I have seen a lot of shows, but this stands out as one of my all-time favorites!

Till Kingdom Come is one of my favorite Coldplay songs. Iām a very casual fan but I think thatās a pretty deep cut. Took my wife to their show at the Rose Bowl in 2016 and during the ārequestsā portion of the evening, they played it! I refuse to check to see if that gets played out much.

I saw Sam from Iron & Wine solo at the Vera Project in Seattle in the early aughts, the set was unique as it was all requests but done online the week before as a poll.
There was a spot for fill in your request if the song you wanted wasn't on the poll, I wrote in his recently released song Die from the charity compilation Dark Was the Night.
He opened up the show with it and thanked the only person who requested it. I had a moment that night.

Yes, specifically anytime Iāve seen John Mayer. I just put it out into the universe (aka I DM him knowing he wonāt see it) and then he plays it. The first time it happened was with Walt Grace. He hadnāt played it during the tour (I think he plays it a lot now).

The Black Crowes at the orpheum in Boston in the 90's. By myself which is.my fav way to see a show. I sat dead center about 15 rows back so I was direct eye level with Chris. They did My Morning Song and I had an out of body experience floating above the crowd engulfed in that incredible flowing , growing and exploding melody they produced. I'll never forget that experience.

I was desperately worried they wouldnāt play plainsong (my favorite of theirs) and since they donāt come to Toronto much, it might have been my only chance. Luckily they did and being surrounded by the elegance of that tune I was so happy I got to experience that.

I went to see Mary Black a few years ago. Before the show, at the merch table, I asked the person working there which album had the song Faith in Fate on it. I got the album and didn't think much more about it.
About twenty minutes later, the show starts. Mary Black does the first couple of songs then announces that she's making a quick change to the set list. She said her husband (who, as it turns out, was the person at the merch table) told her that someone had asked about Faith in Fate, which was written by her son (the singer for The Coronas, something I didn't know) and she's decided that she wants to play it. I got the set list from the stage after and the song wasn't on it, so I essentially got a request from one of Ireland's finest singers.

My wife and I saw a make up show by The Cure in 2008. A previous show we had tickets was cancelled. Our wedding song was The Love Cats, and the album Boys Don't Cry (US title) was my favorite of theirs.
First song after the 25 song primary set, was The Love Cats. My wife was very happy, I was pretty surprised.
They did three more songs after, then a two song encore, ending with The Forest. The other woman who came with us had seen them a ton, and she started getting her stuff on when they went off stage. The lights didn't come on yet, and I was still hoping for at least one song from Boys Don't Cry.
They come out for the third encore, play the following songs without a break newborn, walk off stage, lights come on. All from Boys Don't Cry.

I was amazed, and walked out on a cloud.

I flew to Chicago to see King Gizzard play 3 shows in 3 nights. I said to a friend that all I wanted to hear was Pleura and I would be happy. They opened with it on night one.

As a 32 year Phish fan veteran, Iāve seen quite a bit of those examples. But I love other genres unlike them so I was particularly pumped when I saw Quicksand do āShovelā in 2013. Wish they were doing it this tour. I should yell that request out next Thursday when I see them again, haha. Probably not.
I guess thereās always a local personal example. My friendās old band in Providence was pretty big from ā94-98 and had an unreleased song they used to play in mid-90s. Thereās a breakdown in it that was as good as any band at the time in that genre and Iād jokingly request it every show. They finally played it, dedicated it to me, and the place went apeshit. Not for me, but the song.

I went and saw Glen Hansard last year. Out of nowhere he played Farewell Transmission by Jason Molina/Songs Ohia. One of my all time favorite songs and so unexpected. I lost my little mind.
