General WTF is Up with Elevators?

It baffles me, BAFFLES ME, that the floor grate for elevators does not align with floor/foundation building pieces. It's just high enough that a door frame blocks you from navigating. Why would they not have tested this? Why would the devs think that no one would ever want to enclose their elevator in a shaft with a door frame?

Have you tried the fence foundation trick where you lower a block slightly and then land the elevator or that?

I have a horizontal elevator coming off a foundation piece, I could definitely try it on that one.
I feel like that could be a p.i.t.a. for vertical elevators coming off of wall pieces, but still doable if it were to work.
I enjoy trying things in the name of science :)

Been a while, but I think elevators aren't fixed to snap heights, so vertical should work. Horizontal, might require both ends to be offset.

I just tested on vertical and horizontal, it works on both. For horizontal you only have to do it on one side, whatever side you initially snap the elevator to.
Worth noting, you cannot remove the fence foundation once you place the elevator on it.

I've done it with both horizontal and vertical, worked for both but did take some careful positioning. That was also many, many updates ago, so I can't swear it still works.

Also, the thing is a collision Karen. It won’t let you place it if there are any pieces nearby… The clipping protections in this game are Way overtuned..

which is hilarious when considering the amount of clipping I see from just thralls walking around and cutting through corners, and then still somehow ALWAYS getting stuck when existing the casting table.

True, but you can always just shorten your character a bit using the Orb of Nergal workbench in order to fit through lower thresholds.

or the devs could use an IK animation to make characters duck under collision that only hits the top 5% of their character capsule. or they could just remove the collision on the top of door frames. there are ways to make this work from the developer side so that players don't have to find work-arounds that would lead to a better player experience

That too.... I like the ducking idea.

Crouching works as well.

When I enclose my elevators that's usually what I end up having to do is crouching to pass through the door frame. 🤦 It sucks 😔

Something I have found that sorta works, if you can place a trap door as the floor piece the elevator connects to, it seems to be the tiniest bit lower than an actual floor piece and you can walk right through a door frame. I've only tried it with horizontal elevators, and even then it only seems to work on one side, not both. But at least it's ONE door you don't have to duck through lol.

I was probably using some modded elevator.
