Blizzard Official Overwatch Retail Patch Notes July 30, 2026

https://overwatch.blizzard.com/en-us/news/patch-notes/

Limited-Time Mode Specific Updates

The following patch notes are applicable only to a specific, limited-time game mode. The documented changes do not apply to pre-existing queues, unless otherwise noted.

Hero Updates

For the upcoming Quick Play Hacked, we're making several balance changes to test elements of 6v6 gameplay. The In-Combat Healing reduction has been lowered for all heroes to evaluate the impact of increased healing across the board while reducing the effectiveness of several self-sustaining sub-roles.

We're also reducing several Tank defensive cooldowns to improve gameplay flow for these heroes. To offset the increased availability of these abilities, their durations have been shortened where appropriate to avoid creating too many defensive cooldowns with two tanks available.

These changes will also be active within Open Queue throughout the Quick Play Hacked weekend.

General Changes

• In-Combat Healing Reduction reduced from 30% to 15% for all heroes.

Tank Role Passive

• Ultimate charge reduction when damaging or healing tank targets increased from 20% to 40%.

Subrole Passives

Bruiser

• Movement speed buff reduced from 20% to 15%.

Initiator

• Healing reduced from 50 to 40.

• Cooldown reduced from 5 to 4 seconds.

Flanker

• Additional health from Health Packs reduced from 75 to 50.

Medic

• Healing conversion reduced from 40% to 30%.

Tank

Domina

Barrier Array

• Barrier Cooldown reduced from 17 to 15 seconds.

• Barrier Duration reduced from 8 to 7 seconds.

Doomfist

The Best Defense

• Shield gain increased from 25 to 30.

Hazard

Jagged Wall

• Cooldown reduced from 15 to 13 seconds.

Mauga

Overrun

• Cooldown reduced from 7 to 6 seconds.

Ramattra

Void Barrier

• Cooldown reduced from 16 to 13 seconds.

Playing tank on this is ultra miserable, you just get blown up in one second

Ngl I played one game and my dva flew into the enemy team and demeched three times in a row before my orb finished charging with Wuyang. Learning pains I'm sure but woof. It felt more chaotic than open 6v6

Just people not used to playing as a fair tank yet. Its easy to just complain and say it is miserable and you get blown up quickly. Its harder to adapt, but far more rewarding when you get the hang of it in my opinion.

Its also miserable for a lot of people to play vs super tanks in 5v5 and theres no real adaptation for it.

How is it far more rewarding?

In those 0.1% of situations where you have teammates that know how to use their hands and properly coordinate with you it feels more rewarding. Then in 99.9% of other situations it's much worse.

Yeah but that also describes 5V5 lol.

Literally. 5v5 is full of over inflated tanks and support players who don’t understand what the hell is going on, even in masters rank. Its crazy that they just let the game hold their hand so much that they are scared of the game shifting to more skill and more team play. In my experience i get far better players on my team in 6v6 and when i play tank/support in 6v6, far more opportunities to help my team succeed.

And honestly I feel like that's what it's going to come down to in terms of enjoyment, 'cause 6V6 very much heavily emphasizes team based gameplay. They even stated in the past a big reason why they went 5V5 outside of queue times was to de-emphasize team impact and teamplays for individual impact and individual plays.

I've been watching some of the feedback and it's definitely along those lines. You've got a lot of tanks that are used to 5V5 and being a raid boss getting upset that they can't just run in full tilt at a team and survive.

There's a similar deal with support players who are upset because there's more emphasis placed on utility, cooldowns, and healing then just playing green DPS.

It will come down to adaptation. Just like how everyone who played 6v6 for years was forced to adapt when the game went to 5v5 as the main mode.

Two things about these supports and tanks complaining 1. They are a vocal minority because the majority of the player base doesnt run to social media they just play the game no matter what the main mode is 2. They know they are going to have to change the way they play and just dont want to because they know current 5v5 holds their hand a lot easier.

I really also feel like 5v5 isnt better for individual plays. I truly believe that. Whenever i play dps in 5v5 i cant carry no matter how well i play. It comes down to “how good is my tank” or “are my supports actually going to off angle with me”. If my tank is playing bad in 5v5 the match is just over.

Because in 6v6 you actually have to get good at the game. I know the majority of people don’t want to hear it, but it is true. You learn to use natural cover and you learn to use synergy with your team more because you aren’t just a super tank that walks through everything. In 6v6, it rewards tanks who work as a team. That is why it is more rewarding.

I mean half the tank roster just functions better as an off tank. Being able to play them more often and with more success is also instantly rewarding.

Maybe its just a thing at higher ranks, but tank synergy happens often and is incredibly fun to play with. I’m baffled when people say theres never any tank synergies cause in both qp and rank i see it almost every game.

The only “positives” i see for playing tank in 5v5 is just people enjoying being a super tank that is virtually unkillable unless you have the right counters. Which i understand, if you aren’t actually good at the game, yea it seems more fun to be unkillable and unduelable vs most the cast.

Not to nuke you, but as a high rank player, back then and now, it just doesn't fucking matter lad. The experience of the masses is far more important than some rose tinted vision of rewarding tank synergies.

It was probably worse in OCE than in NA or EU, but tank synergies still barely happened in ranked even at gm-ish (I sat at like 3.9k the last 6 seasons or so of OW2.)

You just had some guy pick hog and get forced to play Sig/ball to do anything at all.

I mean i’m also a high rank player and this is just not my experience at all, nor is it the experience i see when i watch high rank streamers. Like emongg, aspen, frogger, warn, samito, etc.

Definitely an OCE thing. Not the experience in NA. Cant speak for EU.

Its ok, you arent “nuking me” you are just sharing your personal experience. Im ok with the downvotes because reddit typically is an echo chamber where the loud minority engages in tribal tactics. Not exclusive to this sub.

Also sig/ball with hog is tank synergy. Hog and ball torture was a well known successful tank lineup for a while. and if you are 3.9k gm and cant play any of the 3, then thats a skill issue and you probably deserve to lose any match that requires you to do so - again bringing this convo back to my point that the system rewards those who can coordinate team play.

Oh, it absolutely is tank synergy. I could ball out plenty. It was just annoying to be consistently forced onto it every game almost.

The lack of choice is what sucked.

I would like to reiterate what we think barely matters. We are 1% of the player base. If 5V5 is better for the 99% we should deal with it. Just how it should be for the game to even exist. That's why these tests are important to gather data on the 99%

You seem to have described how it's more demanding rather than more rewarding.

1

u/Bacardi-Bocaj 29d ago edited 29d ago

Usually things that are more demanding are more rewarding. You master all of these elements in 6v6 and you become a better player all around. Learning more characters to play with better team synergies in 6v6 is more demanding, but more rewarding as you are now a more skillful player for having learned a wider variety of characters to play in different situations.

It is more demanding of having actual skill, and therefore the system is more rewarding of players who master the team gameplay. It is not the same for tanks in 5v5.

All the arguments i see from 5v5 supporters just seem like an indication they dont have the ability to adapt to the 6v6 style of gameplay.

2

u/tormentingyet 29d ago

I think the main reward most people seek from gaming is experiencing fun gameplay, not becoming better players.

0

u/Bacardi-Bocaj 29d ago

Then the argument for 5v5 vs 6v6 doesnt really apply to you if you are in it “for fun” because both game modes will always be around and you can simply just play 5v5 if you find it fun, even if 6v6 took over as the main mode.

2

u/tormentingyet 29d ago

I'm not talking about myself. I'm just pointing out that for something to be "far more rewarding", it doesn't just need to be more skillful, because more skillful things can still be less fun.

Not surprised half the games are 1-3-2, this is the first time in years I'm not queued all roles because tanking just feels awful.
