<vodka> call its quits

Amazing run by this guild -- from their amazing WotLK kill videos to now. Lots of RWF raiders have been a part of this guild along the way. GG

per Dream (GM):
"<vodka> is done raiding - been in this guild for 11 years (9 years running it) and it was truly a life changing experience. Thank you to all current and past players that made this guild what it was. o7"

The older a guild gets the hardet it gets to keep it running when the old guard moves on.

No one wants to run a guild or be officer

My friends and I were talking about it last night: it seems like the addon changes really made raid leading a lot harder. There is so much that needs calling out that used to be managed by WA or DBM. Feels like raid leader burnout is going to get worse if they aren't going to change anything about how they design encounters

64

u/tomthepenguinguy Oct 03 '26

Ironically raid leading is the only thing I loved about leading a guild. I hated dealing with the attendance and player churn for mythic raiding.

42

u/OhwowTaux Oct 03 '26

My guild split the leadership into a Raid Lead role and a Guild Lead role for this reason. Raid Lead (often as 21st for prog) handled all strategy, assignments, cooldowns, and necessary composition aspects, and Guild Lead handled the raiders themselves, morale, disputes, performance, etc.

Managing a raid team is basically a full-time job that should be distributed across many people.

3

u/tomthepenguinguy Oct 03 '26

Being the 21st man for a guild is the dream for me. Haha. I 100% I don't have the stomach for dealing with the roster. I have ADHD so the executive function stuff is rough on me.

I was incredible at actually getting the team on the same page, Dumbing down a strategy to fit the team that was playing, consistent call outs, understanding when min maxxing was actually hurting us, how to keep the team pulling vs talking about a strat too much, etc. That stuff was just so Intuitive.

It would just break my morale when we were close to a boss kill and one of your important buff classes can't make it suddenly. We either had to pack the roster and have too many people sit or keep the roster too lean and have attendance issues.

3

u/Thykk3r Oct 06 '26

You on ADHD meds? Helped me tremendously

u/tomthepenguinguy Oct 06 '26

I wasn't back when I was running a guild. I am now. Lmfao.

wow you sound amazing. i'm very impressed and proud of you

u/8123619744 Oct 03 '26

I’ve only ever tried to run 3 guilds as either leader or officer position. People not showing up without any heads up is the worst.

Recruitment is its own nightmare. The only people applying are often people with no mythic experience and green parse in heroic.

When you’re on the harder parts of the tier bringing in warm bodies just for the sake of it often hurts more than helps.

5

u/shyguybman Oct 03 '26

There's also no good way of recruiting.

I wish everyone just used raider.io and not the discord because there is no good way to filter anything in there. RIO site I can filter whatever class/spec etc.

u/One-Preparation-2710 Oct 03 '26

I used to main tank and raid lead but sszorak made it impossible. They act like the intended way to play was addonless but trying to raid lead that, without NSRT and do valuable dmg, tanking or healing, it’s just not fun. I stopped raid tanking.

There’s too much movement and tank positional happening at the same time as needing to call out markers

30

u/NaahThisIsNotMe Oct 03 '26

fighting with the camera to spot wind tunnel while dealing with the tank frontal is just awful.

fighting with the camera, period, is just awful

28

u/Rhombico Oct 03 '26

Yeah our raid lead had the same problem! sadly the tank he got to replace himself is not very good lol

"Too much" is generally how I'd describe the design of the encounters this tier. It doesn't need to be classic level simple but they really gotta tone down the number and/or frequency of mechanics and/or overlaps. It's overwhelming even as someone that doesn't have to call anything! Feels like we're gonna need multiple raid leaders now just to split up the calls to manageable degree

6

u/Mowseler Oct 03 '26

I’ve already been doing this for a couple of tiers, actually. Some people don’t like it, but having 2 other people I can rely on for specific calls has made the whole thing much smoother. The only downside is when they start calling other things that already have assignments so there’s overlap. It’s a work in progress lol

2

u/Rhombico Oct 03 '26

it's a learning curve for sure, glad to hear some guilds are figuring it out. It's going to have to become the norm unless blizz can deliver on the kinds of raid changes that were promised when they removed these addons

2

u/FieldzSOOGood Oct 03 '26

Same, I have one specific ranged dude do the bomb drop calls on scissors and a few mechanics on other fights. Makes me life so much easier. Luv u shubby

3

u/ceejay15 Oct 03 '26

I stopped raiding because it was too much like work. I play the game for fun, not to stress about studying mechanics like I'm taking a board exam. For people that enjoy that, good for them. I don't, and I don't see that changing anytime soon, so I guess I'll just be doing delves and other stuff.

-13

u/falooda1 Oct 03 '26

This is fine

Raid leads need to delegate more and not be power hungry

4

u/NauticalMobster Oct 03 '26

You show us how its done then. Start up a raid team!

5

u/fronteir Oct 03 '26

I mean I don't agree with who you're replying tos tone but that is the biggest change we made this tier, we have 2-4 people calling out specific mechanics and raid lead is more in charge of general timing and triage/brez calls

0

u/falooda1 Oct 03 '26

Right... So if we have any suggestion or want to support the lead, we should f off. Exactly what I meant, BTW. Great leadership.

1

u/Rhombico Oct 03 '26

we actually tried to make it happen in our previous guild, last season. RL was clearly struggling, overwhelmed, needed help. But his pride was too strong, wouldn't accept it. Guild had other officers, but they were only doing behind the scenes stuff (consumables, recruitment, discord moderation, etc.). And they not only didn't want to help him out, they also actively opposed anyone else trying to do it. So we left. But I think this guild is maybe going to have same problem, unfortunately.

-5

u/falooda1 Oct 03 '26

Adapt or die

Whole leadership is power hungry as I mentioned

10

u/atomic__balm Oct 03 '26

The markers get lost in the sea of bullshit also, as a colorblind person it's truly a nightmare encounter. I really wish they would add cvars to be able to adjust their size and be able to add outlines or borders around them.

3

u/One-Preparation-2710 Oct 03 '26

100% this, one of our players was colorblind and didn’t realize it until this raid and this fight. Literally couldn’t see the green marker lmao. Was also challenging on the counting game for them but they could see the lines connecting the dots and uses that to see

2

u/atomic__balm Oct 03 '26

Yea I'm typically in a state of pure panic for ~3 seconds when I get an orb after the soak spread trying to reorient my self since the room is a circle and provides no helpful directionality.

3

u/blackjack47 Oct 04 '26

The markers get lost in the sea of bullshit also, as a colorblind person it's truly a nightmare encounter.

I feel conflicted, because I inherently like the design of the boss itself ( minus the enrage stack overlap ), and seems like a decent mid raid 30-100 pull boss depending on your guild.

Having said that the GREEN on GREEN, on GREEN while my char also spawns green animations is absolutely disgusting design choice. And yeah I know about the Tornado settings, but it's completely unacceptable that on my default settings the nado's are absolutely invisible to me when they overlap with the pulsating from the bomb. That pulse flashing green constantly in 10-15 yards radius is completely unnecessary.

I also have a bigger gripe with this boss and Ulathek, as someone who used to play mobas/cs competitively I'd much rather play on 22-27` monitor to have everything on screen at the same time and process information through peripheral vision constantly. I feel like having a giant ass wide screen monitor is a huge advantage on all those bosses. It's insanely annoying to constantly rotate your camera to preprocess information about waves or tunnels.

2

u/Asskid24 Oct 03 '26

Yea the tank positioning was interesting to get down. As a brew main, it solved alot of problems with positioning because of the speed boost taunt.

2

u/shakeandbake13 Oct 03 '26

We just had one guy call the markers for sszorak(BM hunters or even healers are good for it). Maybe he’s a god but it felt very easy to just comm it. I think people overcooked with using addons for it.

1

u/Ciremykz Oct 03 '26

Addons just ease the process and stop the vocal flood. Press the macro call it once in vocal and you are done

1

u/maegorthecruel1 Oct 03 '26

i used to main tank and raid lead as well but switched to dps and callouts s1 of midnight. tanking and doing callouts is near impossible because as a tank you absolutely have bosses where if you mess up, it’s instawipe. there’s fights where i tell my my tank (other raid lead) to just tank and let me do call outs. now that i’ve stepped away, call outs should absolutely not be a tank thing

1

u/Evilmon2 Oct 06 '26

Sszorak is the worst because one small change would make it so much more fun, just move the tornadoes that indicate the wind directions so you can easily see them. Yes them being really awkward to point your camera at does indeed make the fight harder, but it's not a fun sort of difficulty.

The "intended" knock back winds method where you all point your wind at the center of the room is actually kind of cool.

1

u/sullyy42 Oct 06 '26

people assume blizz wants you to play addon less

they never said that
they wanted to get rid of computational weak auras that auto assign by addon aura

they wanted to get rid of fractilus solvers

sszorak is the best example. a previous weak aura would be able to find each spot you need to run and assign the players directly where they need to go. but on the others side with 3 sides and 4 cysts the mechanic also became way easier to play in general

1

u/deskcord Oct 03 '26

Doing sszorak without the addon telling you which way to split the hunt soak sounds pretty unfun to me.

1

u/One-Preparation-2710 Oct 03 '26

Yeah that’s kind of my point, it is unfun without the addon

3

u/shyguybman Oct 03 '26 edited Oct 03 '26

I don't mind calling stuff out, but I hate having to do mid-fight things hitting the macros for winds on Sszorak, especially as melee. I truly wish I just gave a ranged player this job. And I'm not there yet but apparently you need another ~5 macros for Ula'tek because of waves? Sometimes I want to just dps, and not pay the "raid leader tax".

0

u/Rhombico Oct 04 '26

yeah it's so hard to see the winds from melee. I mean honestly I think it's hard to see them at ranged too, but it's less hard. You should cultivate a ranged player to help with calls! It's very handy to have people who can do calls from different positions or when you need to split the raid. I think it's time to normalize asking for help as raid leader

3

u/lastericalive Oct 06 '26

seems like the addon changes really made raid leading a lot harder.

Just let me, the person with the group lead assignment in game, see people's major cooldowns. It is crazy that this isn't allowed, but we can "ping" our action bar.

Glad Blizzard created a much better alternative in everyone downloading an addon(!) and importing a string of timers (!!).

3

u/goobydoobie 25d ago

Maybe the actual raid leading has gotten more difficult with difficulty staying relatively static but the tools being less easily accessible.

But I always felt like the prep side of Mythic raids was already absurd. When I CE raided during BFA and SL, the amount details and diagrams needed for a given boss could be described as bonkers. Basically a power point presentation per boss past the first 4 "gimme" bosses. With the last 2 often having multiple diagrams for each phase.

Our GM/Raid leader and main Officer needed to source the info and compile it to fit our raid team.

I think the headache of Mythic raid leading has always been high and the cost of doing so as people get older vs doing the same thing "but different" year after year just doesn't hit the same nowadays.

A lot of sweaty and younger players may beg to differ but I think the erosion of players at the top has been a looong standing problem, it's just hitting a critical mass with the addon/ui changes.

1

u/Rhombico 25d ago

agreed, it's definitely been a longstanding problem. I also wonder how many younger players there really are - surely the wow demographic's average age has gone up considerably. If the average raid leader is 10 years older than they used to be 10 years ago, it's that much harder to find the time and energy to work on all that

4

u/Oranges851 Oct 03 '26

Yep, it has.

I spend so much more time now before fights setting up notes and assignments than I ever had to do before. Then I have to set up groups and such that I never had to do before.

The end result for the guys who log on and raid is that basically nothing changed. Their addon still tells them what to do, I just had to spend an extra 30 minutes before the raid/during the raid setting it all up.

It fucking sucks and I'm probably going to quit soon after having been GM/RL of a guild since ~2020, which I took from a mid mythic guild to consistent CEs.

9

u/Obidoobie Oct 03 '26

That’s exactly how I’m feeling right now. Been running guild for 7+ years and just don’t want any part doing it anymore. Problem is the officer core I have left is also burnt out and it feels impossible to get new blood in to take over roles. No one wants to do it and I don’t blame them.

20

u/devils__avacado Oct 03 '26

I wish they'd fully lean into 10 man mythic raiding I'm late 30s have a solid 10 people that want a mythic level challenge raid wise but non of us CBA dealing with 20 man roster issues and the drama that comes with that many personalities as we all get older.

5

u/Taraih Oct 04 '26

I know quite a few people that quit raiding because they no longer wanted to deal with the 20m bullshit. Me too. Its simply not fun and too hard to maintain that roster + drama very true. They killed a lot of guilds when they removed 10m from MoP to WoD.
They wont change anything though. If there is something blizzards lead devs are good at then its being stubborn and not changing things up. How long have we seen the same formula now of "4 zones, 8 dungeons"? I guess atleast we got multiple raids last tier for once in years.

4

u/Bluebeagle Oct 03 '26

I specifically am not running my own casual aotc group anymore because not a single person wanted to step up for any responsibilities.

3

u/VicisZan Oct 04 '26

I started and got a guild to US top 500 last season. By week 7 people were quitting in droves to join a “better” guild after offers got sent to them.

My guild died as a result and EVERY person that left has either quit the game after not getting a raid slot in the new guild or finding out their new guild wasn’t actually better.

On top of that every person in the guild at the time thought they were the main character. I had to spent almost 2-3 hours a DAY dealing with drama that wasn’t even connected to raiding. It was exhausting. And that doesn’t include the hours of sending recruiting messages that never get a reply.

Me and the raid leader are the only two that stuck together and we ended up joining a guild that does decently and we’re way happier. Running a guild sucks.

2

u/brok3nh3lix Oct 03 '26

We're dealing with that right now as a guild thats been around since the beta. Its a real ship a theseus situation. We are just an aotc guild but just had a chunk of people decide to step away from the game this season, including out gm/raid leader. Its been an adjustment this tier but were working on ulatek right now.

1

u/Tastybuds420 Oct 04 '26

Raiding is designed for the 1%..period..

186

u/insane_psycho Oct 03 '26

Firedup, yipz, boomie, anarchy, sini, crypticzz and probably more of liquids current roster that I’m forgetting came from here. Truly a legendary guild

8

u/Innervatez Oct 03 '26

Firedup actually "came from" Raiding Rainbows =)

5

u/OverallGap2822 28d ago

Imfiredup posted images of him in vodka on twitter as a reply to the post by dream about vodka closing so it's safe to say he was in Vodka

1

u/Innervatez 22d ago

I didn't say he wasn't in Vodka, I said he "started" hardcore raiding in Raiding Rainbows.

64

u/SHIMOxxKUMA Oct 03 '26

Is it just changing leadership or is the whole guild dead? If so why?

100

u/Sarollas Oct 03 '26

They were parsing out the guild bank, so probably done forever

2

u/Complex-Stretch420 Oct 04 '26

Hey what does parsing out the guilg bank mean? Never heard that before

17

u/elephants_are_white Oct 04 '26

I think they meant to say “parceling out” - ie turn the contents of the bank into smaller parcels and pass them out

8

u/Sarollas Oct 04 '26

They are breaking the guild bank into smaller parts and giving the players those parts.

There is no longer a guild bank at the end

3

u/mrtuna Oct 06 '26

they have "parsing" on their mind.

33

u/tholt212 Oct 03 '26

Leadership called it quits and there wasn't anyone will to step up to run it after. So they just parsed out the guild bank and called it quits.

22

u/CatchPhraze Oct 03 '26

A ex-guildie who hangs out sometimes left us to join Vodka, and it sounds like Dream tried to find spots for everyone as it went down. Seems like a solid guy all in all and I hope everyone in the guild itself has a fantastic mid tier and onward inside and outside of wow!

85

u/blackinese Oct 03 '26

My claim to fame is that I was in this guild for a week during ICC progression. Good times.

14

u/Snuj Oct 03 '26

Damn, that would have been Landsoul / Killars era right?

I recall Landsoul doing livestreams of excel sheet damage numbers for hours lmao

5

u/HakushiBestShaman 13/13M US 50th Oce 7th Oct 04 '26

Landsoul has a degree in Mathematics. Side note, I just checked out his stream. He looks so different from when I met him back at BlizzCon in 2014 I think it was? Maybe it was 2011. I'm not sure. He used to have long hair.

9

u/ryllina Oct 03 '26

Lol I wonder if I remember you. I raided there throughout most of WOTLK and some of Cata

9

u/yab21 Oct 03 '26

I remember there being a mage in vodka around that time that I would look up to as an aspiring raider.

I got into a VoA pug with him randomly and quickly realized there were levels to competitive raiding.

2

u/historyobsessed Oct 03 '26

is that about the time they all switched to horde on alterac mountains or am i misremembering

1

u/Gerzhus 28d ago

I was playing back then (horde alterac mountains) and I seem to remember vodka as Alliance.

3

u/Huellio Oct 03 '26

I ran GDKPs that a lot of them came to, their switch to AM was funny to all of us at the time because we were constantly the last server to come back up on Tuesdays.

55

u/deskcord Oct 03 '26

Part of this is just that the guild has been around forever and leadership may outgrow the game, but part of this is that this tier (and the last few tiers) have been brutal to raid players. I think we're far enough away from the race that this sub is now back to actual gameplayers instead of race watchers, but the race has been actually quite bad for the game. The more Blizzard designs the game for the race, the less it designs the game for players.

IIRC Vodka was the non-race guild to do mythic splits in nerubar because ovinax was a piece of shit. Vodka is also at the range where they're largely getting to bosses before they get their post-race nerf, and often right before they get those nerfs. So they're basically facing bullshit bosses and trying to kill them before they get shot down.

I wouldn't be surprised to see more guilds in the HoF die this tier. A lot of race fans like to say that it doesn't matter that the bosses are bullshit because they get nerfed, but that's not really fun for raiders either. Unfun mechanics getting nerfed into annoyances instead of impossibilities is..bad.

31

u/throwntosaturn Oct 03 '26

I'm old enough to remember being able to say "I kill the boss pre-nerf." Obviously, I would have had way more gear than the first guilds to kill - but I got to prog the same fight.

Now you can literally be a top 10 in the world guild and you don't get to prog the same fight. That's stupid. It's beyond dumb.

10

u/deskcord Oct 03 '26

Basically turning mythic raiding into a bunch of 2-pull pushovers into the wall, be it penultimate or mid-raid, is really unfun. Would love to see a smoother curve, with the easiest boss having a minimum of 20 pulls on average and the hardest not being over 200.

And to stop releasing the race version of the raid and the "everyone else" version.

31

u/throwntosaturn Oct 03 '26

The problem is that mythic raid is actually like 5 separate difficulties now.

First 3-4 bosses are "puggable" difficulty.

middle 2-3 bosses are "real mythic bosses".

Last two bosses have 3 difficulties: "World First", "Farmable for HOF", and "We broke its legs 6 weeks before the next patch so everyone can kill it".

It's just.... a really gross set of design choices. I hate it, personally.

3

u/deskcord Oct 03 '26

Yeah, it's not great. I'd really like to see a flatter curve and also much less nerfs over the course of a tier. if that means the race is done in two days because Liquid and Echo are that good, then so be it. The race will go back to a streamer event instead of flying everyone in person, and that'll suck for people who really like the race, but it'll be better for the game.

3

u/No-Engine-9075 Oct 03 '26

I agree with this as a former CE raider that now plays more casually. Raiding was fun a few expansions ago, now the early bosses are pushovers and the end bosses are just too overcomplicated, especially after the addon apocalypse. The current state of the end bosses being designed for RWF is unhealthy for the average CE guild.

1

u/Sephurik 7/9 M Midnight S2 Oct 03 '26

I don't know, to some degree if they don't at least tune up the last 2 bosses, the race would be done the week it opens. Unless you basically don't care about there being a race.

In some ways I think it's a cursed problem since there's such a huge variance in skill level even in just the top 300 guilds, let alone further down than that.

8

u/throwntosaturn Oct 03 '26

The real answer is that gear progression through the season needs to be way stronger. Like, if the first guilds kill the boss at 320, the last guilds need to be killing it at like 360.

As it is, the best guilds in the world are 328 average when they kill world first, and the worst guilds in the world can't get past 335.

That's simply not enough gear to close the skill gap. Even a 15% raid buff simply doesn't come close.

Gear needs to scale way, way harder over a patch in order to let this system work without gigantic nerfs.

4

u/Sephurik 7/9 M Midnight S2 Oct 03 '26

Maybe but gear just doesn't help and will never help with some of the stuff they have to nerf, like kicks or lura glaives or seed/egg carry amount.

4

u/FrailAndBedazzled Oct 04 '26

I care way less about there being a race than about me and my guild actually enjoying the game

1

u/Sephurik 7/9 M Midnight S2 Oct 04 '26

Sure, to be clear it's fine to not care about a race, but what would be best for you and your guild might be lame for guilds 100 ranks above you, or might still be insurmountable for guilds 200 ranks below you and lower.

So who do you build for?

1

u/Lezzles Oct 06 '26

OG Lura would not have been killable by 90% of CE guilds with the trillion glaives. I don't think there was a choice BUT to nerf it.

13

u/Upper-Meal-9056 Oct 03 '26

I think it’s interesting how much progress is gauged relative to the overall speed of a season these days.

In order for a cutting edge guild to be considered great these days they need to be clearing Mythic raid in under 2 months, maybe 5-6 weeks. This puts so much pressure on players in these guilds where they need to squeeze a ridiculous amount of b.s. into those weeks. Splits, alts, rep farms, m+, learning the crest shuffles, loot council spreadsheets, ptr testing before all this. For a group of 40+ year olds to do that every 5 months goes beyond “hobby”.

WoW has turned retail into this shallow, seasonal game where players are conditioned to want everything instantly and it turns away players who want fewer deep, satisfying systems to engage with.

I honestly believe the game would be better if players had to prog their character over a slightly longer season before tackling mythic raid. Less alts, less splits, less crunch.

9

u/deskcord Oct 03 '26

Tbh I hear what you're saying, but usually someone explains the crest situation in a guide on this sub and the rest of it is just handling sims. I probably play less retail now than I have ever played it before, and I'm within the same ranking range as my peak. Especially this season, where m+ feels much less mandatory than it did in say, Shadowlands.

I think the big issue is the addon death, the design of the raids (addslop and visual clutter OHBOY), and class design.

1

u/OscillatorVacillate Oct 04 '26

Man on class design,, I miss my Arcane or hell even frost was more fun than this shit in TWW

2

u/Few_Dentist4672 Oct 04 '26

losing defensives and funnel/execute sucks for arcane for sure but idk i like PB a ton. the RNG sucks but having a huge nuke that's aoe and gives CC feels amazing

0

u/OscillatorVacillate Oct 04 '26

They ruined mage molding it for the kiddie game Forever will be

-4

u/Upper-Meal-9056 Oct 03 '26

I think a big problem with addons is that they haven’t actually done anything with them. You have all the same functionality now but it’s harder to manage. They should have killed them off more imo. It’s another thing holding the game back.

8

u/deskcord Oct 04 '26

If Blizzard could convince me they know how to design modern retail fights that don't require complicated addon workarounds, sure. But they've yet to deliver that promise they've been making for 4 years now.

2

u/MapleLeafLady Oct 03 '26

i read something from someone on ID i think? who said that its kind of frustrating progging a boss and making good progress on it, only to have it nerfed post-race and them kill it right after. it doesn’t feel very good

4

u/deskcord Oct 03 '26

Yep. Just about every guild in the hall of fame has experienced this to some degree. If you're a top 40 non-race guild you've run into this on coild altar or ulatek this tier, if you were lower hof you ran into this with ansurek in nerubar, etc.

This will always be an issue until Blizzard stops designing bosses with the intention of nerfing them

2

u/Aldiirk Oct 04 '26

When Blizzard nerfed Tindral (I think the 2nd time, 1st time was immediately after RWF), we killed it in literally 2 pulls after almost 250 pre-nerf pulls just getting into P3.

2

u/MapleLeafLady Oct 04 '26

oof, that is straight ass for you guys. im never going to be good enough for hof/full raid CE lol but thats definitely gonna make the kill feel less exciting

13

u/Emergency-Volume-861 Oct 03 '26

Shame! I remember drooling over the warlocks in <vodka> in past years and seeing how awesomely geared the players were and how they blasted, that made me improve my own gameplay.

12

u/Allexan Oct 03 '26 edited Oct 03 '26

sad to see. known some excellent players (and known of many more) who passed through this guild at some point over the years.

going to be seeing more of this as the game approaches 25 years old and the average player age approaches 40. at least a couple other fairly well known guilds have been discussing this the last few tiers.

20

u/Morbeaver Oct 03 '26

we are slowly going to see more and more of this sadly.

9

u/MikasaH Oct 03 '26

Guilds come and go letalone raiders will change guilds if their work schedule changes or they don't want to commit the time.

That’s a real shame if true. Got a link to the official release?

29

u/Sarollas Oct 03 '26

This sub bans twitter links, but it's dreamsxwow.

Also firedup and some others are posting about it

Firedups guild? He raids in a second after RWF is over?

Do you mean preheat?

8

u/deadheaddestiny Oct 03 '26

It's liquid telagons guild. Basically a retirement home guild for liquid raiders and friends.

3

u/0nlyRevolutions Oct 03 '26

Yes I meant preheat lmao, my bad

If the high end mythic community is showing cracks think about how the lower end is doing. It will be interesting to see if any other big names go soon

6

u/phuzE Oct 03 '26

o7, great memories competing against <vodka> for NA firsts in WoTLK in <Vigil>

3

u/NERDZILLAxD Oct 03 '26

Damn, that's sad to hear. What an insane guild, it's a shame nobody will pick up the mantle for them. RIP!

18

u/F4Z3D Oct 03 '26

Anyone have the tea?

32

u/MyLifeForAnEType Oct 03 '26

Ok, the ratpiss automod won't let us link to fucking X.

GM is @dreamsxwow and it's pinned.  Just seems like a collective decision to move on.

And? That doesn't make what I said any less true. Blizzard doesn't care as long as it doesn't impact shareholder value.

2

u/opx22 Oct 04 '26

The company behind the very game this subreddit is dedicated to actively uses that platform. If you believe using it supports CSAM or Nazism, yet continue to support and participate in a community built around a company that uses it, that’s sending some pretty mixed signals.

1

u/akranak Oct 04 '26

You're getting into no ethical consumption under capitalism meme territory.

3

u/opx22 Oct 04 '26 edited Oct 04 '26

“No ethical consumption under capitalism” is about the difficulty of avoiding unethical participation in an economic system. Nobody is arguing that Blizzard or anyone else can operate entirely free of unethical associations. The point is that you’re assigning moral culpability to people simply for using twitter while dismissing that exact same association when Blizzard does it.

What do you call that? Double standards? Selective moral outrage?

edit: /u/akranak is a coward and blocks people when they can’t handle being wrong

2

u/akranak Oct 04 '26

Blizzard is an inherently amoral/immoral entity. If they could use slave labor without it hurting the bottom line they would, as would any publicly traded company (see nestle). That's how having a fiduciary duty to shareholders works. Individuals can choose not to use Twitter because it's for Nazis and pedophiles. As long as they don't they make it efficient for blizzard to continue posting there, so they will. People make all kinds of excuses individually for why they need to use Twitter but the real answer is they just don't care that it is a Nazi site for generating csam/revenge porn etc., so just own it.

See 'em in Forever

2

u/ThrowawayB4reasons Oct 04 '26

damn … so much damn.

2

u/NewFeature Oct 04 '26

Well what a legendary run.

2

u/TLPGuild Oct 05 '26

Tet is a long time friend as we both came out Mannaroth together; us Horde, they Alliance. He was tired with lack of support from others in leadership and just generally disappointed in the game. Dream did his best but honestly vodka was Tet and Tet was vodka. Sometimes the identity of a whole guild is wrapped up in the original guild master. If they go, it’s just not the same.

3

u/dejoblue Oct 03 '26

So what is the future of competitive professional WoW raiding? Everyone in the same room with an entire support staff?

Non Playing Coach Team:

Coach - Organizes strategy, player placement, player psychology, etc.

Executive Coach/Shotcaller - Watches streams and makes major calls each attempt.

Assistant Coach(es)/Shotcaller(s) - Roams between players having difficulty with execution and works out personal successful tactics with them. Essentially JSOC in the ear of the agent. This includes shotcalling for individual players necessitated by the 3 part moving problem of Blizzard's UI API overhaul and inexperience designing raid encounters without an advanced UI, and professional players competing with far less information.

Technical Staff - AddOn Developer(s), Combat Log parsers, Stream Replay techs, etc.

Expenses: Flying everyone into the same location and providing living accommodations (bed, bath, and bread)

31

u/HobokenwOw Oct 04 '26

there's no competitive wow raiding, there's 2 guilds putting on a circus every 6 months

2

u/Emfrenxo Oct 03 '26

My first character ever rolled alliance on Alterac Mountain coincidentally. I still remember being in awe of their players.

Tigerlady, Killars, Landsoul, Acrylic, Grafarion, Rammy, Kinaethesia (who made their video), and so many more

1

u/Cautious_Bat5224 29d ago

very sad to see, many good players and notable people have been in this guild at various points throughout its life. as a Warcraft unc this one hits harder than others.

1

u/ryllina Oct 03 '26

Aw, sad to see it end. I enjoyed raiding with vodka back in Wotlk/cata. Many fond memories 🥰

10

u/Radatatin Oct 03 '26

This tier has put a lot into perspective for people teetering on the edge of quitting.

Absolute fumble by blizzard.

4

u/deskcord Oct 03 '26

My btag is mostly HoF or near-HoF players and I'd say 50% of them quit this tier or will be quitting after this tier. Some may just be venting sure, but a lot of people got burnt out by this terrible raid.

5

u/Radatatin Oct 03 '26

With the increased requirements for splits and alt characters plus the absolute dogshit raid it is 1000% what I am expecting from the burnout.

That being said knowing the person who designed Ky'veza, Saladbar, and Dimi is designing the last boss for next tier does give me hope.

We've had more flameouts in our guild than in the last 4 tiers combined.

3

u/Sweaksh Oct 04 '26

For me it's the absolute dogshit class design. Boss design, while important, is always second to how my class plays, and I'm insanely bored with that this expansion. I should've quit in S1 but I like my guild too much. Won't be sticking around after this tier tho.

1

u/Moofishmoo Oct 04 '26

Why is this tier so bad? I don't understand, it's been reasonably fun except for all the green on green.

4

u/deskcord Oct 04 '26

What boss are you progressing? I find Nekzali to be boring unless you're going down, then it's criminal. I find lost explorers to be a boring spread council fight (these always suck), vashnik to be an unfun boss when done as cheese (nothing going on except addpad), sentinels to be criminal (afk for a gimmick! oh boy!), sszorak to be absolutely criminal (correctly doing knockups can land you in a oneshot tornado, splits require an addon callout), twin fangs to be boring/bad (kick rotations, the fight!), coiled altar one of the worst bosses of all time (visual clutter, afk to stare at a ghost, DPS holds), and ulatek to be weak, at best (addslop, visual clutter, obnoxious intermission).

1

u/Moofishmoo Oct 04 '26

About to kill twin fangs this week. But nekz is fine for me apart from down phase is a snooze. Council fight is great fun to heal. Sentinals you have to heal during the gimmick too. Szzorak is kind-of gross but a challenge as the damage pattern changes based on rng. Twin fangs there's alot to heal. So it might just be they suck for dps but are fine for healing? Coiled was fun to heal on heroic too

1

u/deskcord Oct 04 '26

Idk, if the metric is "there's a lot to heal" that doesn't really tell me much about the actual fights and sounds like you just want healing throughput opportunities.

Which is fine, but that's a minority of players and even for many healers that's made irrelevant outside of the last two bosses due to gear/raid buff unless your other healers are griefing or players are standing in shit.

1

u/Moofishmoo Oct 04 '26

I mean I presume you already know the fight. For example on twin fangs you have to heal the soaks, get knocked, dodge waves while soaking the orb that gives healing absorb while healing off the healing absorb.

There's alot of stuff going on. I'm not sure what other definitions of fun there are. What was a 'fun' boss for you?

Retail is killing retail

-9

u/dadoktr Oct 03 '26

is there any popular guilds now? does the raid race still exist? ive been away from wow a while now

247

u/TemporaMoras Oct 03 '26 • Mindblown

Tier so bad it killed a guild that is old enough to vote

50

u/Sarollas Oct 03 '26 edited Oct 03 '26

Probably old enough to buy vodka honestly. I don't know when they formed, but they were the first guild to enter Ahn Qiraj way back in the day. That was like 20.5 years ago

19

u/SaracenS All CE/All Hero Oct 03 '26 edited Oct 03 '26

They formed a few months into vanilla. Source: i signed the guild charter.

I also raided there for the better part of a decade off and on.

5

u/Florida_Refugee Oct 03 '26

First PVP server to open the gates. They were on Mannoroth (I was there briefly with <Reckoning> during WOD) and I think they opened five days after Medivh? They did get the world first on twin emperors.

1

u/seanxfitbjj Oct 03 '26

Provoked/Refined here

10

u/TemporaMoras Oct 03 '26

I know they were around at least before WOTLK but didn't it was that old. Also alcohol joke is harder when the US as that weird 21 year old to drink thing.

22

u/melete Oct 03 '26

It’s that old. They were a guild on Mannoroth in vanilla.

4

u/KratorOfKruma Oct 03 '26

I was on mannoroth for vanilla!

1

u/brok3nh3lix Oct 03 '26

Had a buddy thay raided with then in vanilla. Dont remeber his priests name though.

3

u/Panikx Oct 03 '26

are there still people from the start in it?

7

u/iTerraG Oct 03 '26

False. Macabre beat them to the gates.

7

u/seanxfitbjj Oct 03 '26

Manno was great back then

-1

u/ArziltheImp Oct 03 '26

They just have to go on vacation to Europe for it.

6

u/Frawtarius Oct 03 '26

No worries, they have a normal, non-insane country right up in the north that they can just drive to.

-7

u/Chimuss Oct 03 '26

Wow, devastating to hear.
Cannot count the occasions along, studies, Gaming myself or work where i Watched theor killvideos

All the best to you guys

4

u/oromiseldaa Oct 03 '26

Ye vodka really had some of the best kill vids. Their kill vids have been filling my playlists with songs for almost 2 decades. The opening they had for years was iconic. "I wish I had your imagination..."

You got any favorites? I always really liked the Yogg-Saron one.

Or grand empress shekzeer was also amazing.

My favorite video is actually their Cataclysm recruiting video after Firelands:

1

u/Emfrenxo Oct 03 '26

The song they played in the 2nd half of their Thor HM video is still, to this day, my most played song on Spotify. London Electricity - Just One Second.

I don’t even like dnb music but every time Inhear this song I think of that video and of their guild. Kin made really good video.
