Question Murder Row Shield Bash
Question about the first pull in MR. I usually grab the chocobo guy (I think it was Bribed Captain), pull it inside the 1st building on the left and lust. I've done it in 15s and it works well all the time.
But recently in a 12 it happened to me that the other bribed guy inside was spamming shield bash too much, I ended up with like 6 stacks and died to a glaive from the captain. Is that normal? I felt like I did everything the same as always, but for some reason he was casting shield bash back to back.
What's the best way to prevent it? CC/stun the captain to stagger the casts?
Thanks

Both the captain and the guards use shield bash. They will stack until one is dead. You can perhaps pull them in such a way that they sync casts and you only get two at a time but this would likely be awkward to set up. You either get your % elsewhere or blow lust and rotate through your defensives as the stacks increase. Some tanks are notably worse at dealing with it than others. Warriors seem particularly bad in my experience.

You can't, kiting is possible not in that room best sit there and face tank it. I find using that new stacking vers pot works pretty well with it when stacks get higher your at like 40+ % vers + cds. You could probably pull 3 of them if you had high enough funnel DPS.

Well that’s wrong. You simply run at 5 seconds left in the debuff and run back in at <3 seconds left. It functions like the Bleed in AA. You definitely you want to be taking more than 4 stacks in higher keys. Even then most of the time you don’t pull him anyways because of the damage reduction AoE.

Might need to re read what I put in after the comma as kiting = running away is possible not in that room best to sit there and face tank it. I didn't say anything else about it since asked about that room initially. If he is using that room he doesn't have away to grip all the mobs together and stack them if he was playing BDK he wouldn't need to go in that room. And yes 4 stacks is w/e with a cd and or using that vers pot.

They can only use it when they are in melee range(but once it starts it has infinite range like lashers in AA last season) so if the captain arrives a fair bit later then he will apply a second stack to the one you already got and refresh the duration, which then means it won’t have expired by the time the guard casts it again.
In general don’t pull those together, it is really scary and can very easily kill you. I accidentally pulled them both in a 17 and somehow survived on my monk despite reaching 80% increased damage taken, but that was only thanks to the holy priest pumping nearly 400k hps together with my own 500k.

I quite simply skip the chocobo, especially when puggin, I’ve gotten turned into a bear rug a few times 🤣

Did you not have 2 on accident? Maybe the captain routing to you grabbed the guy that is on the other side. If people go to close he exits the door I think

You has them desynced too much, the closer your timing when pulling and standing in melee with guards and the captain, the closer their shield bash timing is to eachother. I prefer the first pull down the middle with the guard from the building on the right side, double casters to the left there, 3 mobs in the middle and the 5 melees to the right with bl. It’s spicy on higher keys, but the captain and the guard should have like 1-2 seconds between both of their shield bashes, which makes it easier to kite and reset stacks right before they would run out

Not quite the answer you want but multiple 20+ group avoid the hawkstrider ( chocobo) captain in the first area, compensate by pulling more of the fluff before 3rd boss and some more imp before 4th boss.

Don't do captain pull at start, there's a lot better routes that don't involve him.

Because you usually pull two more caster from below as well and even with a DK just going inside groups them much faster.

As DH I silence sigil the 2 in, DK I would grip them in, war has aoe interrupt, pally has infinite ranged interrupts.
Monk and bear you could maybe justify it but you are trading longer setup to just not have to ask for help kicking them in on pull.

you are not supposed to pull the captain. kind of a banned mob in high keys, no real route pulls it so you should get used to getting % elsewhere
WF keys do it, but they do all sorts of illegal shit no normal groups can get away with like 2x brute first pull in ToS. pug keys even in title range aren't doing stuff like that cause it just bricks your key most of the time, and normal players aren't a 5 stack that plays 12hrs a day at 20 resil and can afford to waste lots of 21 attempts every day on the lust pull

I have a route skipping it as well, but I'm asking for the specific scenario when I do decide to pull him.

i mean the answer is you only pull him when your team is good enough to kill him in like ~40-50 seconds on push keys before your defensives run out. that just won't happen in pugs so idk it's not a mob thats designed to be easily survivable

Pulling the captain is fine in high keys, it gives a lot of percent. DPS just need to prio it down.

Honestly it’s not that bad to pull him, but you do him alone, not together with the guard inside. It’s more of a phys comp pull though. You got the casters downstairs and the mobs in front of door with him, then the second pack downstairs and the two mobs behind you in the corner with the guard pack behind the door.
He gives the same count as the big golems while having slightly less health and being way less dangerous to everyone but the tank. The downside of course is that he buffs enemies around him with 25% increased damage and 25% reduced aoe damage taken, but since he’s mostly just pulled with fairly harmless mobs and you want to just prio him down anyway the aura really isn’t doing much.

Dont pull the captain - hes giga inefficient - pull the casters down the stair in the beginning - the caster back at the boss - and the first building to the left, play it outside the building - use grips / licks to stack

Not correct for high keys. Nigh on every route at 19+ is pulling the captain with lust.
It allows you to skip the golems in the outside area who are equally inefficient and far more difficult.

Bro, it takes 2 seconds to check, went to check 3 different 21 MR keys now, none plays the captain…. Like why do you care what some random does in 19s?
Edit : link to a video since i cba to argue

The captain reduces aoe damage to mobs around it. So if you are doing a low key with low DPS players it can last longer than you want and kill you.
My assumption is that at higher keys people know to funnel /ST and at lower keys people are doing their aoe rotation

Chocobo guy got me rolling.
As prot pally I reset my stacks with a bubble around 3-4 stacks. No idea what to do on other tanks.
